The band Zonar speaks of is in the film The Adventure of BucKkroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984). It may be that Zonar has a little bit of a distorted idea of what life on Earth is like by basing all of his ideas on TV programs. The same could be said of the rest of the Moon people.
Music; a neat thing to bond over even if Honey is clueless about that old time group. I bet she is up with the current crop of teenage heart throb entertainers.
Ok, quick update…I managed to get my unemployment claim filed, with some difficulty verifying my identity (because not EVERYONE in the world has, or can afford, a smartphone) and there were a bunch of questions online about my termination and if I filed a grievance..so in the end…I have to wait 4 to 5 weeks to see if I’m eligible..but I still need to file every week to claim my benefits
The Buckaroo Banzai movie is great campy fun if you haven’t seen it. John Lithgow is at his crazy weird best! The movie is full of the best quoteable dialogue. It’s right up there with Young Frankenstein, Monty Python’s Holy Grail and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Ok, “The Big Cheese” makes it clear that the resemblance of the costume to Captain Marvel’s costume wasn’t a coincidence. I wonder if Zonar is supposed to be reminiscent of Captain Marvel Jr.? His costume was blue, though he had a different chest symbol.
Honey knows perfectly well who the Hong Kong Cavaliers are — she saw them in concert once! In the Tracy strip of 11-7-13, Honey told Tracy that she was going to see the band, and that she hoped to get Perfect Tommy’s autograph.
one of these YEARS, I would like to know the origins of the Lunarians… how it all began for them… just the basic and abbreviated inside scoop of them, IF possible… readers might want to know…I figure that if you’ve introed an alien society in the strip, an imaginative scripter would give us some basic information to work with.. I’ve been waiting ever since they were introed back in the day and still no origin story of ANY sort… will we EVER know the truth?… the truth is out there… I CAN handle the truth… LOL…
“An’ I’m patterning my lifestyle after zany TV kook Bob Denver on DUSTY’S TRAIL. It was murder getting a volcano into the living room an’ Dad was kind of mad for a couple of years, but I think it worked out well.”
2-…form a music duo. No one is using the “Sonny & Cher” name anymore so we’ll revive that. You’ll be Sonny and I’ll be Cher – to reflect the times we live in…

HONEY SONNY: I’m saving myself for the wedding night.
BONE-AIR: Those callouses I see suggest otherwise but whatever. I think the new issue of Playhorn magazine might’ve arrived today. I’ll be back in 10 minutes. Or less.
HAAAAAAAA, YOU’RE RIGHT!… VERY observant of you there… well done, Silver… as Babe Winkelman used to say back in the day… “That one was the catch of the day…”
Gotta go with Honeymoon’s secret thought here:“who?” I am aware of the Buckaroo Banzai… movie but have never seen it, and even more emphatically have never heard of that band, if it really does/did exist.
Meanwhile, it is a bit disturbing to think that the Lunarians, especially the young ones, get all their knowledge of the outside world from assorted TV shows. That alone could explain the warped thinking of the renegade would-be world conquerers-faction!

If any alien civilization judges us by our TV programs, we’re screwed!

Just like the aliens in Galaxy Quest, they seem to think of some fiction as real.
