It seems Diet suspected something from the moment Rosie told him that he was delivering the space coupe his brother owed him and the blanks have been getting filled in for him since then.
It’s interesting how violence is often used to indirectly force political change. I wonder why Rosie wants to go that direction, though. Why not just start vaporizing capitol buildings and heads of state, then move on to conquer the panic that ensues? That’s a more direct way of handling it. This way takes longer, requires human allies, and risks inciting the good Lunarians to side with the humans against him.
I speculate that he escaped and is out mostly on his own, with maybe a few comrades with him among the Lunarians, and needs to go more indirect while he slinks around in hiding trying to build up some kind of forces. So he may not have the capacity for a direct assault yet. Though if this were the case, it wouldn’t serve him well to make the humans turn on him from the get-go. Usually, if you lack real power you want to ingratiate yourself to the very people you want to eventually conquer until you have the real power to subjugate them.
