email for more details.
I am amazed that no other member of the Patterson family is interested in celebrating Aprilâs birthday with her aside from Elly. It seems a bit heartless to abandon Elly.
As for the family not celebrating Aprilâs birthday with herâŠ
A toddler birthday party is quite often separate from the family celebration, especially if there are older children, or other relatives or grownups who might be invited.
They donât necessarily want to play preschool games and watch the balloon artist (though I do).
The family has probably been telling her âhappy birthdayâ all morning , and will celebrate at dinner, when this is over, and maybe after a nap or quiet time.
Â
I agree that it would be nice if other family members helped out at the kidâs party, too.
I donât know whether Elly is trying to do this alone, but in my limited experience itâs often the mother(s) of another attendee or two who are asked to help supervise.
Iâve seen parties where they ALL stay, especially when their kids are still two.
I was thinking it was great that all the kids showed up. There have been very sad stories posted about birthday parties planned by a parent, then none of the invited children showed up â even if their parent(s) said they were going to come.
I never had that problem with kidsâ parties. Just how long did she leave them in charge without any adults to supervise? Who would leave even one 3-year-old alone for more than 30 seconds?
This is why the rule of thumb for number of kids invited to a birthday party is the number of years the birthday child is plus one. This is not a joke.

I thought the rule of thumb was 1 kids for every year. Even that few would be a challenge.
