For those who were wondering, Petro-Canada still has over 200 full service gas stations all across the country. Even back in 1994, Gordon’s full service station was unusual but not nonexistent.

The smartest thing I ever did was not taking over the Family business, the truly best thing I did in life ( so far) was marry a accountant !

Gordon is one of my fave characters – Josef Weeder is the another – and here is the very beginning of why he came to be one of my faves. Funny that none of the Pattersons are my faves. They’re just ordinary.

I think John may have some idea though there would be differences between running a dentist’s office and running a gas station. But it can’t be easy to be the one in charge.

“Hey, Gordon. When Elizabeth turns 18, I want you to marry her. You’ll be saving her from the fate worse than death!”

Kids just don’t think that parents have been already pretty much been through what they’re experiencing, little is new to parents.

Mike was home for Thanksgiving and we didn’t get to see him? Were we too busy with Elizabeth cutting her hair, Sera having puppies, or Anthony coming over to study? Because checking in with Mike would have been a welcome respite from any of that drivel.

Yes Gordon, I think he does know how hard it is to run a business.

Canadian Thanksgiving – October 9. Gordo has not made the connection that running a dental practice IS a business – and complicated to, especially when dealing with insurance companies.

Thus continues Gordon’s development as a responsible businessman.

I believe this is the arc when John&Elly buy part interest in the gas station to make sure Gordo stays in business. It proved to be smarter than investing in A.T.&T.

Gordo and John are bonding, or have the opportunity to, over the difficulty of running a business.

So many comments to the effect of “Obviously Jon knows how to run a business!” Does no one remember what it’s like being eighteen? Every experience feels like discovering a whole new world. Of course you felt the need to share profound new insights and didn’t assume they were bland cliches to your elders.

Sounds like an episode of The Simpsons where there is a school presentation of yo-yo tricks, which enthralls the kids.

Miss Hoover: “I have serious doubts about the educational merit of this presentation.”

Miss Krabappel: “Hell, it’ll be one of their fondest memories when they are pumping gas for a living.”
