Eileen: Jason, class is about to start. Jason: Shhh! Tick... Tick Tick... Tick Tick Tick... Tick....... Tick..... Click! Jason: Yesss! Eileen: You know, you could just memorize your locker combination like a normal person. Jason: Why does everyone assume I want to be normal?

I’m with Jason on this. Normal is boring. Why would you want to just do everything the same if you can find a method you like that happens to offer a little fun to a mundane task?

Oh, my…that is what my daughters say…

In my school, the hallways would be so noisy between classes that this would be impossible to do.

That could actually be fun to do with a locker. Too bad I’d probably be utter crap at it.
N1nt3nd0 about 9 years ago
Sometimes I used to do this for fun with my locker.

Those locks were pretty easy to pick if you knew how to feel the clicks.

The last thing Jason could be assumed of being is Normal.

The day that Jason acts normal, will be a sad day indeed.

The boy probably has pi memorized to a hundred digits, but can’t be bothered to remember a 3-number locker combo?
Ermine Notyours about 9 years ago
At my school, you only had to memorize the first two numbers; it was easy to feel and hear the last click.

Psh—normal is overrated.

Yay Jason! Unlocked (heh heh) a memory for me. Way back in olden days I remember saying something similar at age 14-15,.Someone asked the insulting question – “Why can’t you just be normal?” My reply – “Why would I want to do that?”

There were lots of problems with lockers. If you had to share, security was hopeless. Kids would let stuff rot or mildew, and often they were too out of the way to use between classes.

God help the typical substitute teacher who gets stuck covering for the band director. My senior year, jazz ensemble was first period (the major loonies of them all). We got done early that morning; so we were out in the hallway waiting for the bell to ring. One of the saxes called out to the sub, saying, “Hey, Mrs. Whatsyername, watch this!” He went over to a locker and started spinning the dial much in the manner of Jason in this strip. She’s watching intently; we’re ROTFLMAO. The more he plays the safecracker, the louder we’re laughing. When he finally stands up and forcefully opens the locker, Mrs. Whatsyername is standing there in open-mouth shock at his ability to crack the combination while we’re laughing so hard we can’t breathe — because we all know that the locks in the doors were so cheap and unreliable, you could bang open any door if you jerked the latch handle hard enough. The smart kids brought their own padlocks for the lockers.

When my first nephew was born, I was telling everyone that I was going to be a guncle (gay uncle). One guy asked, “Why do you have to be a gay uncle? Why can’t you be just an uncle?”
I replied, “Well, for starters, I try never to be ‘just’ anything.”

I think he had to make a concious effort to not memorize it
