“Happy Birthday to Ya” is my family’s birthday song. We sing at everyone’s birthday party. It’s a special tradition.

There is a winding and weird story behind the supposed copyright to the song… which was declared legally invalid in 2015. The company that had been charging royalties for several decades had to pay back most (or all?) of it. Fear of being sued was the reason behind most movies avoiding the song… and restaurants making up their own birthday songs to comply with customer requests for a celebratory performance.

Is there a particular version of a birthday song that Stevie Wonder is known for?
