Tiffany’s next possible line: “Hoh, I’m just kidding!….”. Then, with a bit of “second thought”: “No, but really – do you think you could?…” -It’s quite a reversal from several years back, when Gunther was so mad a Tiffany for what she pulled to go to that boy band concert, pulling an “okie-doke” on his date offer… – Sorta the same thing that happens in life, sometimes… – (♪)“We are islands to each otherBuilding hopeful bridgesOn a troubled seaSome are burned or swept awaySome we would not chooseBut we’re not always free…” (♪)

I agree. Just when I was starting to actually feel sorry for her, she has to tell Gunther that he needs more ‘qualifications’ to be her friend. No wonder she can’t find friends at college. Kids are too busy trying not to flunk out these days to try to impress others with false ‘qualifications’….

The week’s not over. If I read this story arc correctly, that’s Gunther’s cue to withdraw and get grumpy, Tiffany realizes she blew it, And on Saturday Gunther sets a new bar that Tiffany has to meet: accepting people for who they are instead of their image. I hope.

And congrats to Gunther’s Mom for adapting enough to supply caffeine with the cookies! She’s starting to let her boy grow up.

They are both starting to redefine themselves, is what I see. Gunther is relaxed and can touch Tiffany; Tiffany has opened up about her loneliness. It is starting to dawn on Gunther that he is comfortable around Tiffany; she sees that she has a friend and is coping with what she has “lost” from the past. These two characters are doing the most maturing in the strip from where I sit. They may have a shot at romance down the road.

But I still have hope for these two, down the road….

I still think Tiff is evolving. Admitting her life isn’t that great is a good thing. The problem with her is, she’s had no one in her life. No mother, and a father’s who’s basically not there. Gunth’s mom would probably love to mother her. The girl needs that.

The twist to this possibility, no matter what one thinks about Tiff, is the football thing. I think being social or accepted is part of Tiff’s dna, and being on the football team might be something she would want a potential boyfriend to be. I don’t think it takes away from how she feels safe to reveal her vulnerability to Gunther. He is familiar, but different. Where will this lead? Personally I hope to love and passion, and it would really be interesting if Rosa comes back and wants to take back up with Gunther, or get him to go to Yale with her (remember she was admitted to Yale?). I think that rabbit may be pulled out of the hat.

I actually feel sorry for Tiffany. I hated high school but loved my college years. On the other hand I knew some of the extremely popular kids in high school and most of them hated college. Tiffany, you are in college now. There are not status symbols rather or not they play on a team. Everyone is too busy to care including everyone on the football team about status. They just want to succeed and are interested in ladies who want to succeed, too. They also are interested in ladies who want them to succeed in whatever they plan to do.

6My take on today’s episode is a little different:1. While I tend to feel Tiffany’s emotions in panel 2 are legitimate and real, I think the way Greg has drawn this panel is not a “real feeling” as I would have expected from him. Something about the drawing in that second panel has a “fake” edge to it. Please note, however, that my read of the dialogue is that TIffany IS being real with her emotions. 2. I think that regardless of whether you were the popular kid, the nerd, the athelete, or whatever in high school…. I think that EVERYONE goes through a period of realization of the change and the LOSS of what was in their life during or following the first year of college. Feeling the tremendous change, and even thinking about it is the first step that Tiffany is going through at the moment. I suspect that this is an indication of her first steps at growing into who she will be as an adult person. 3. I read the last panel about Gunther joining the football team as an attempt at a “joke” by Tiffany…. referentially trying to portray her “old” attitude about things. I truly do not think she really means that Gunther does not fit her “quality” level. 4. Saturday will indeed be interesting. Any bets on whether Tiffany/Gunther will continue next week…. or will we be onto another arc? I am predicting…. that we will have another week of Tiffany/Gunther.

Doesn’t Moony Uni have fraternities and sororities? Tiffany would enjoy being a sorority girl, since she is really good at organizing parties and other social activities. We are told that her Dad has money (which is how she got admitted), so surely she’s the sort of girl who would be really popular among the sorority set.

I see this development: Tiff is having one of the first epiphanies that goes with maturing into adulthood. Falls for Gunth. Gunth falls for her in a rebound emotional state. A month later Rosa shows up. First catfight on this strip ensues. Who wins?

Tiff misses high school. Football = high school, so it’s like her security blanket. I’m sure we all know people who mentally never progress beyond the good old days in H.S. For others, they mentally stagnate in their college years. You know, they’re the ones with the university bumper stickers and season tickets to the football games. Both Gunther and Tiffany need to grow up. I hope they can do it together, at least for awhile. It’s possible to care for each other and still keep their clothes on.

Track, tennis, lifting weights, gym stuff, cars, swimming, deep sea fishing, even a great clothes designer, etc.Something she can envy, as she is not a guy. Some great athletes never played HS sports.Other than basketball, I think he can do whatever he wants.Maybe, he’ll want HER!What a combo!Keep it coming.Peru should never come back.
