I never comment this early, but I have to comment on this strip today. I always said that what Toni describes in the second panel is exactly the intent of the strip for the wedding of Toni and Brad. There will be a lot going on before that date, but it makes sense as they are both first responders, and would want to honor the most important day of their lives on that most important day in recent American history. I also love the double entrende about going big for the honeymoon. Definitely adult here.

My friends and I have noticed this among our younger acquaintances — the guys want the big, lavish wedding and the ladies want a small, simple one. Some kind of generational change taking place there …

By “Going big” perhaps Toni is thinkingof having a glamorous honeymoon.viz: A trip to Hawaii, the Caribbean, etc.As well as the “adult activity” implication.

5I am glad that Toni and Brad are planning something somber and respectful for their 9/11 wedding. I still think it would be more enjoyable and more fun to have a different date. I personally think it would be a riot if they had chosen the date based on the date that Brad found (and kept) Toni’s pen. :)I am from the type of family structure that has their weddings at a place of worship (for my immediate family it is a Roman Catholic Parish)…. and then has a fun and often somewhat raucous celebration that evening in some sort of hall. To me, something like that was what I had initially envisioned for Toni and Brad (probably a Justice of the Peace and a hall celebration). I am wondering, however, how much “Califorinia” flavor will be a part of the event?

Implausible, I can indeed understand your sentiment about BuckarooDave3… from your perspective…. he did attack you a helluva lot and from my perspective it was not kind, nice, or IMO fair. However, with that said, from my own interaction with BuckarooDave3…. I enjoyed his comments and ideas about the comic of Luann quite a bit. I think he had a very nice sense of the comedy of the comic, and (other than when he was harassing you) his comments, insights, and predictions about the comic were always a joy to read and I looked forward to them.

It is bizarre that Brad forgot that they already discussed this and settled on the fire station for the wedding. If he didn’t want it held there he should not have agreed to it months ago. He is pretty young to be this forgetful.

You know…Toni was not wearing her uniform while pulling on a heavy coat last week when she told Luann that she and Brad were on their way to discuss the wedding plans with his Captain.Have we jumped ’wayyyy past that story line, or did Evans really mess up?

The double entendre at the end makes me wonder what a strip can get away with in 2016. Are we to understand that Toni and Brad have been “chaste” up to now? Shouldn’t honeymoons be before weddings?
Triviaguy almost 9 years ago
They aren’t celebrating the tragic and terrible events of 9/11. No sane person would do that. They are trying to turn arguably the saddest date of their lives (and arguably those of all first responders) into the happiest date of their own lives and honoring their first responder brethren by giving them a reason to be happy on what since 2001 has been a very somber day.
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr almost 9 years ago

Yes, when I think how to “honor” over one thousand people who perished suddenly in a horrible way due to an act of hatred, I always think of holding a wedding reception with refreshments, drinking, music, dancing, and partying! I’m sure the families of the deceased will want to share in that happy time. Invite them all!

AE2… I read your response to me from my comment to you on Saturday. Thank you for the explanation of your feelings. I do not really hold the same feelings as you do about Implausible. In my interactions with him, he has been thoughtful and gives interesting comments, that may not always agree with my own, but they do cause me to think, and sometimes see Luann in a different light than I had previously. I understand that you feel Implausible is the person formerly known as RB2 and RB. Likewise, Implausible seems to think you are the person formerly known as BuckarooDave3 and Dave3. While I suspect you both are correct about your assumptions about prior names, I have no direct proof… and therefore take the comments from both of you and Implausible with the name you currently have. Perhaps my earlier suggestion to you has more merit than you think…. why not just leave each other alone? There are people who enjoy your comments (about the Luann comic) and there are people who enjoy Implausible’s comments (about the Luann comic)… and there are others who like BOTH of your comments (about the Luann comic).Great avatar by the way!!! I think it is the best version of a moving avatar I have ever seen! I like it a lot.

Interesting, now that Brad and Toni are again in the spotlight, it has me thinking about how I personally would like the wedding series of comics to go.What I would like: For me, the best case scenario would be for there to be a lot of humor, hi-jinks, and hilarity occur at the rehearsal dinner, the wedding itself, the reception afterwards, and even (gasp) on the honeymoon. I would like it to be REALLY funny… in a lot of ways, almost “slapstick” funny. What I would rather not have: For me, I would rather not have a dramatic or somber or “very special episode” rehearsal dinner, wedding, reception or (even bigger gasp) or honeymoon. From what I can envision Greg (and Karen) doing, I would think with the 9/11 wedding date as it currently stands, they would virtually be forced into treating it dramatic, somber, or “very special episodey”. I think this is the major reason why I personally would rather see the date change…. it could be a much more funny time on another date.

He’ll go big once she starts to shuck that uniform on the wedding night.
Triviaguy almost 9 years ago
You’re not getting my point. September 11, 2001 will always be arguably the saddest date of their lives (and those of all first responders). September 11, 2016 will be arguably the happiest day of their lives. They just want a date that is remembered for so much death and tragedy to remembered for something joyous. They didn’t pick that date because that was day they met. It wasn’t. They picked it because that was the date that both of their lives changed forever and they found their calling in life. The events of September 11, 2001 are what drove Brad to become a firefighter. Toni had yet to enter the picture. Toni’s first appearance was on January 19, 2002 and can be seen here. Also, the events of September 11, 2001 changed many lives forever. Brad and Toni’s lives changed for the better. Sadly, many others changed for the worse.

I don’t know whom you’re trying to fool, but you know exactly what you are doing here, and it is a form of trolling that goes well beyond your constant negative observations of the strip. Yeah, it’s tiring, it’s disruptive, and it is going to stop.

Tend to agree with you regarding a wedding on 9/11, or on Dec. 7th, or Nov, 23rd when JFK was assassinated, or Good Friday, or any of the dates that your parents died. Just an opinion, don’t need to have everyone attack me for it. This is National Prevent Super-sensitive Feelings Day. Yay America.

“If were being honest, some people don’t like the negative observations I make about the comic”^It has nothing to do with that. Lots of people comment here and say things that either are not “popular opinion”, or are things that are considered negative, but don’t get nearly the same response as you. Why? Not because of “difference of opinion”, it’s due to the tactics you use to respond to people. – Case in point: Some expressed their opinion that Delta was boring. Some called her preachy. But if you noticed, not one person got in an argument over it. On the contrary, just polite discussion, some in support of, some against, some just explaining her wherabouts.- Now, you: “There was a great racial purge. Lots of minorities were booted. The creator did this. Why did the comic strip’s artist purge all the minorities?”.
In fact, let’s use your actual words, here:
Implausible said, 5 days ago@JimT8I mss Delta. No reason we couldn’t catch a glimpse of her current activities.
Delta was removed in the Great Minority Purge™ that transpired over a multi-year period.
Casulties:
DeltaRosaLuizSophiaSanchezSun
– Regarldless of the “surface premise” of “the lack of diversity”, you actually accused the artist of purging the strip of minority characters. There is a BIG difference between “lack of diversity” (positive, constructive criticism) and “purging of minorities” (inflamatory, bait-laden, destructive criticism) and furthermore cunningly accuses the artist of “ridding the strip of minorities (to use the term you used)”, which could be very bold and very accusatory, and very, very slanderous.JayBluE almost 9 years ago
“It is not that I do not like you, as I do not know you personally, but my feelings towards you are tantamount to how I feel towards irresponsible journalism. .
A little something for you to think about: If I saw you lying injured in the street, even if I knew who you were, I would be the first to put myself in peril by rushing out to pull you to safety and save your life. Think about it.”
^This actually also sums up what I feel. I am not here to dislike anybody. We all are human beings, being human. I hope Implausible can understand that. Behind and beyond the computers, we all could be “long lost relatives” or the like. Or even if “total strangers”, we all could find so much in common, and find we each aren’t so bad, at all!æ² almost 9 years ago
What you do is bait people into complaining about your trolling tactics, then when they do, you cry “Waaaah waaah I’m being harrassed and bullied and insulted and am extremely offended waaaah!” All in a ploy to get rid of your detractors. It’s just all a game for you. Just one of the games that trolls like you play. And none of this has ANYTHING to do with wanting every comment to be positive. And you know it.
JayBluE almost 9 years ago
You know full well that purge is not a word with some “mild” connotation/denotation. And it would seem that you know full well that the very word and phrase in that sentence you uttered at the last is…well, it’s obvious what you’re doing.– “I can’t coat every observation in compliments,”^How ironic that you cry “Bully!”, and wag a finger at those who…“can’t coat their observations in compliments”. But the three fingers (on your own hand) that point back at you, are calling someone horrible, among other things. – “and I’m not sure why it angers you so.”^Being able to use words in a sentence and speaking my mind in direct focus is not the tools of an angry person. The words I uttered in response to Brd should be proof of this.
luann1212 almost 9 years ago
I think characters of color will come back, such as Rosa. I do not see a tendency to “purge” characters of color. I mean Dez is certainly a character of color. I am just hanging back to see Rosa come back to just complicate Gunther’s life even more. Delta said she would be out going to Howard, but I would not be surprised if we see her come back to at least be at the wedding. These arcs take time to develop, so, and I am a person of color myself, nice, big and light brown, from the SouthSIde of Chicago, who is very aware of race issues, both personally, academically, legally (practiced law for years, including civil rights, and now is a dissertation candidate whose basic thesis is based on critical race theory). I think I am qualified to defend GE et. al., and I don’t think there is any “purging” of people of color. There have been lots of presumably white characters who come and go as well. So I think, as Bill Clinton would say, “that dog don’t hunt.”

luann1212 almost 9 years ago
Man, this is a blog about a comic strip I assume we all love. I mean it’s fine that we can disagree. I just wrote a response about purging of people of color. I expressed my feelings about it, and my belief I have unique qualifications to discern whether racial purging was occurring, which I don’t believe it has, but one can have a different opinion. I disagree, but I respect the right to express it, and I would never be personal. I mean life is too short to spend most of a blog comment day having to defend or accuse someone or a number of people of things they said which were perceived or meant as insulting personal, derogatory, etc. One thing I can tell is that generally the people on this blob whether they are generally positive like me, or more negative like others, are quite intelligent and highly educated. Can we talk about Luann and company, in the spirit the comic is written, without being personal, or insulting, or puerile? I don’t mind debating, in fact we happen to be in a country where speaking your mind is constitutional (lol). Lets speak/write our minds for fun, and not for personal shaming, anger, or in effect, whether intended or not, bullying someone to the extent they feel they have to defend themselves.
JayBluE almost 9 years ago
He said no insult. You, however, called people horrible . You bring to terms accusations against the cartoonist, and staunchly defend such, but when we point out who has been banned (pot vs. kettle), then it’s “not fair” to you….
