Most people are seldom bored because they have to work a lot – the job – around the house… Shannon is old enough to learn about “chores.” Luann should be consulted for age appropriate chores. NOW: Shannon is there for FOUR DAYS! WHO is going to break the news to Shannon that entertainment is occasional – not 24/7. Hopefully Toni can start in on the moment of truth.
My neighbors are crying because their dogs are scared of the fireworks. They should think of it as payback for all the darn barking they do the rest of the year.
Shannon needs a hobby….sign her up for something she will enjoy and that will zap her energy. How about figure skating? And oh, will she ever learn discipline in this sport!
Shannon is in serious need of attention, she shares her dad’s showmanship gene, although hopefully it actually means talent. Instead of calling her an insufferable little brat (who makes these miserable people?) working to help her become more happy and less aggravating is the best course, not trying to literally or figuratively beat her down to satisfy some adult need. Help children grow, not crush them.
Did Toni really go for a haircut???? OR did she skip the coop and leave Shannon with Brad OR is she having that long overdue talk with her brother OR is she meeting Mr Gray to figure out a way to deal with Jonah.
Even well behaved children will say they are bored. Children actually need to learn how to deal with boredom. But they need help from adults. TJ and Brad are teaching her that other people have the responsibility to alleviate your boredom, which will have to be unlearned.
Hey, Jonah said FOUR DAYS! It’s been more than 4 days – give this rotten turd back to her daddy and let’s get on with something FUNNY, or at least pleasant.
In order to find some good, solid, in-depth analysis, I decided to research the subject. I looked up each of Shannon’s behaviors, demonstrated earlier in the week, along with this “sparkle session”, from today’s strip, using a reliable, trustworthy source to find out. Since Siri wouldn’t respond, I had to then Google it. So…here’s what Google said: “It’s an ‘Eminence Front’ . ‘Eminence Front’. It’s a put on” (♪) . It also listed: “come join the party, ‘dressed to kill’. ‘Dressed to ki-iiiilll’. (♪)”
Yes, Shannon may be ADHD, or at least should be tested for it. Also, if the American Medical Association suddenly defined this condition as “The Brat Syndrome”, no one would then consider it a vulgar or offensive word. It would be a cool thing to smugly discuss at cocktail parties.
Shannon is a normal child. I am astonished at how many of you think she is overactive, a brat, etc. I am both a teacher and a mother and now a grandmother. I don’t see anything bad about Shannon’s behavior except she has a lot of energy and a lot of imagination. Yes, she is not a child that is easy to babysit, that is for sure, and is THAT why she is a “brat”? For a child like Shannon, the caregiver has to be creative with how to keep her busy. Toni probably knows how but Brad and TJ? Eh. All children are different. Some are timid and quiet – those are very easy to babysit and the type everyone likes….it is not fair to the children who are the opposite. It is just their nature. My own two boys were quite energetic and liked to play outdoors. We were fortunate to have grandparents who took them places to keep them busy – never stayed at their home and made them sit and be quiet. They were not craftsy or imaginative. They were physical types. So, Shannon is just a normal little girl. Many children demand attention which is also normal. I guess there are still people who think children shall be seen but not heard.
Let’s just hope Brad and TJ will insist Shannon wear appropriate clothes to the park and save the costume for another time. This can be a teachable moment. Or another tantrum moment.
While the get-up that Shannon is wearing is humorous, I think most six year olds would have a very well developed sense of what you do at a park and would have dressed in some fashion that wasn’t so “costumey”. Does this mean a) Greg was simply working in the joke for the comic, or b) Shannon may never actually have played at a park before.
Shannon is definitely turning into a handful and a ‘two-man’ job. Two scenes in a row since Shannon was dropped off have probably made Brad appreciate having TJ around. I’m thinking that Shannon should be enrolled in the Kidz art group that Luann is teaching. She’s probably old enough. She needs to interact with other kids her age.
Three more days of this arc and “the kid”. Then maybe we can get back to something else like Bernice’s pursuit of Piro, or a re-drawn, attractive Sun. Dez. Pru. Anybody other than this crappy kid.
Remember the FUSE talent show when Jonah turned up at the last minute to perform with Shannon. He put that tiara on her head.. ‘crown for the lady’ something like that he said. Jonah has created a spoiled only child who thinks of herself as some princess. Hopefully all this will come to a head in some way.
An once again, we’re about evenly split between those that say Shannon is a spoiled child who gets everything she wants and those who say she never gets any attention at home.

Reminds me of a very old – ’90’s-ish – commercial, where a little girl, hands-on-hips, rather declaratively announces, “I’m Ready!”

Take the shovel with and she can dig a pool in the park. She’ll be pooped out after she gets 5 or 6 shovels worth of hard dirt out.
