Some years back, I think one of the burger franchises only offered small or large fries for a time. If anyone ordered a medium, they’d automatically sell them a large. That’s how I remember it anyway.
“You know what? I’ll just go back home and make my own…” I never understood the fascination with Starbucks, or even coffee cafes. (Isn’t that redundant?) I prefer my own brand, made my way.
Before I knew what an Americano was, I always struggled to get them to understand what I wanted. Going into a coffee shop and asking for a coffee didn’t really get me very far.
In my small town we have a cafe when I and a group of friends meet once a week, just to rehash things and, of course, tell lies. The coffee is fresh brewed … every cup … and there’s never been a complaint. We tried McDonald’s once, but it wasn’t the same.
Joe Fox: The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don’t know what the hell they’re doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino. — You’ve Got Mail (prices have risen since the movie came out)

Depends, would you like a thump, a slug or a proper beating? I’ve learned never to get between coffee addicts and their fix.

I want a double shot long black in a regular coffee cup with a matching saucer and a nice new paper napkin and you can call it anything you like.

Hyperbole that makes the the brand seem ‘special’ doesn’t improve the taste or justify the price.

I like my own coffee. I get as much as I want and nobody looks at me strangely in my robe and jammies.

Jollibee (a Filipino fast food) in Manila only had “medium” and “small” soft drinks. No amount of explaining had any effect on that…

They charge extra for the black by itself. To make up their food costs.
