Outhouses were still common in the 50ās in the midwest. Some of my friendsāwho went to country schoolsāhad never used an indoor restroom tip they got to high school. And toilet paper was considered a luxury ā the weekly newspaper was always left by the āseatā. Maybe this is where the phrase āyellow journalismā started. . . and why some people view newspapers as cr@p.
I have always questioned: IF āgodā knows all and sees all from the beginning of time to the end of eternity, and āheā knew that weād end up as we are now, WHY BOTHER??
Given that much of the discussion has devolved into construction, a personal story
My wife and I were hiking on the Bruce Trail north of Toronto. A section of trail followed a road with old stately houses with fancy brick work and gingerbread trim. The houses all had outhouses made of matching brickwork and gingerbread trim. I always wanted to go back and photograph them and publish a book of glossy pictures titled " Brick S***houses"

At Girl Scout camp we had outhouses until the floor broke. The next year we had real bathrooms with concrete floors and even a shower.

People will be scrambling for years to come to eke out the āhidden wordsā in Wileyās ātoons.
This could bump up his āhitā count what with all the people from the newspapers that dropped him having to go elsewhere to see for themselves.
