That is similar to “freedom of expression” thrown around by the news-media. Only works if there is money to be made!

There’s an agent who knows how to keep her clients in line.

From what I heard and read about book tours, no surprise there.

Probably hung over because he just read the published version of his ‘great novel’. He wasn’t the writer he thought he was, but his proof-readers and editors were.

Very timely. Today’s news mentions Barnes & Noble has been bought by a venture capital fund company. I think lots of people are going to have hangovers in months to come.

It seems that the ‘used’ book stores outnumber the ‘new’ book stores these days.

With self-publishing and independent publishing, the big box publishers and literary agents don’t have a monopoly anymore.

Not only to bookstores barely exist anymore, but cash registers rarely look like that anymore.

Oh, THAT “he”! You’ve got a misplaced pronoun in there, Wiley!

The author’s agent is willing to meet the author’s fans.

Dig the olde cash registrar on the far right! That’s a relic, even in used bookstores!

Last year we attended a performance of Beautiful: The Carole King Story that featured a stand-in for the normal leading lady, and we were prepared to be disappointed, but we walked away thinking “Holy smoke, how bad can this gal’s agent be that she’s not a star on Broadway?” There’s a lot of talent out there, folx!

From the look of the cash register this must be at least 50 years ago.

Book tours are the worst part (I’m told) of being an author. Picture someone whose job and avocation is to sit alone in a room with a keyboard and reference works, making up a world where things are completely under her (or his) control. Now put that person in a motel room with only the very minimum of the stuff that makes life tolerable. Then make them sit in front of (we may hope) a crowd of people and talk to them. Strangers! Totally out of control! And you have to act like it’s a pleasure! Then you have to do it again! And again! … and lets not even mention food. Heck, I kind of like people, and I would hate doing that. No wonder (s)he got drunk.

I’ll bet the agent has some great stories that you will never get out of the author.
