Ah, I remember watching Holy Grail for the first time… honestly, it had been so overhyped for me at that point I couldn’t be anything but disappointed. Sure, it was funny, but it wasn’t the overwhelmingly, life-changingly funny I had been led to expect.
Psh. Even today’s jaded sprats can love some Python. Dawn knows better than to let her daughter watch certain parts, but Carmen has a blast watching “The Fish-Slapping Dance” and “Ministry of Silly Walks.”
Phoebe is actually a bit young to watch “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, unless it’s an edited version. The Castle Anthrax segment is not really kid friendly. And I’m not sure she’d really get the Knights Who Say Ni part that this references.
When I first met my niece, who was about a month old at the time, I sang the Philosopher’s Drinking Song to her. Her mother and grandmother (that is, my sister and mother) were not especially amused, but I said, “How is she going to learn about the drinking habits of the great philosophers if not from her crazy uncle?!” (They didn’t care for “Emmanuel Kant was a real p*ss*nt”.)
To make up for it, I also held her and sang “You Are So Beautiful To Me”.
There is some naughty language and off-color humor Phoebe may not be ready for in the movie, but it is a classic: http://www.skjam.com/2020/02/11/movie-review-monty-python-and-the-holy-grail/
More proof that comic strip readers are skewing older. “Six Chix” today revolves around an ad campaign for Sara Lee.
There’s a YouTube reviewer named Ashleigh Burton. She saw most of Monty Python and loved it, so she was onboard when she heard A Fish Named Wanda starred John Cleese. But even after watching all that Python she still didn’t recognize Michael Palin.
She also saw Tim Burton’s Batman and didn’t connect Michael Keaton with the previously-seen Beetlejuice. I guess she just has Michael blindness.
Three of the Pythons graduated Cambridge, two Oxford and Gilliam from Occidental. Hugh Laurie, Stephen Frye and Emma Thompson were all in Cambridge footlights together.
aaaaaahahahahahaha! Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get the two-level effect with a little path running down the middle!
I will NEVER understand 1) the appeal of that show, or 2) why people haven’t SOMETHING NEW TO BE FANATICS ABOUT when it’s been more than 20 FREAKING years since that stuff disappeared!

Jokes are always funnier when delivered in a British accent. I never saw the appeal of Benny Hill, but a lot of people stateside found him hilarious.
