Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for February 21, 2024

I mentioned before that Dana got Marigold’s name from entering her name in a unicorn name generator, but changed “Celestial” to “Heavenly” to avoid confusion with Princess Celestia.

I wonder if this other Marigold is going to have Celestial in her name as a reference to that. (I just know the other kid is gonna be named Phoebe.)

Either this is actually a coincidence, or this big joke’s punchline just got spoiled.

Another Phoebe and her unicorn perhaps?

Maybe Marigold will trick Phoebe into switching to a different unicorn. Then Phoebe will wonder why she’s in Australia.

What are the chances that the other back-warmer’s name is Phoebe?

That’s the trouble with using a finite list of name options. Duplicates are inevitable. At least it’s just the first name.

If there really is another unicorn named Marigold and another kid, the other kid may turn out to be a boy. In the Sunday strip which Marigold recalled on Monday, she revealed that the majority of kids who ride unicorns are girls but there are also boys who ride them.

Maybe is you variant from other dimension.

Is this another multiverse/ time travel cross over?

Okay, okay, hear me out: It’s going to be the little girl who called herself “Phoebe” after Phoebe accidentally kept stealing her ball. The unicorn was probably renamed (or happened to come with the name) when “Phoebe” met her.

Dakota? Mirror Phoebe?

It seems obvious to assume that it’s aither a future or alternate universe Phoebe, but that would be a bit repetitive. Remember when Phoebe put on a top hat and pranked herself?

Well, I guess that probably rules out the other unicorn being male then. It doesn’t have to be, of course, and there’s no problem with it being female either, I just thought it would’ve been a neat idea to have this other duo of human and unicorn to be a larger contrast to Phoebe and Marigold, if just for the fun of it.

Looking forward to meeting these two either way though!

Aaand … I’m up to date, having spent the last few months bingeing this strip. It’s pretty good; I’ll have more to say later. As for now, I’m like you schlubs, waiting for the next episode. Let’s see this other Marigold and … will the back-warmer be a boy?

It’s going to be Phoebe and Marigold from an alternate reality. They will get mixed up with who goes with whom and Phoebe will end up in the wrong world. She will be clued in when Dakota is sweet to her.

Seriously a weird situation.

It’s probably just another version of Phoebe and Marigold from the future or something.
