Amen. It’s the utility and not the design that always works.

My spouse has bought be a few polo shirts over the years. I used to say “thank you” and wear them under my button-down shirt; but now I’m retired, I just wear them like my usual teeshirt: One per day, pocket irrelevant (that’s what pants are for).

Even in my polo shirt collection, I have one that has a pocket which has no set day to wear as I also wear my pocketless polos.

My Pop ALWAYS had to have a polo shirt or any other with pockets so he could keep his glasses in there. Unfortunately as his ‘condition’ progressed, he couldn’t remember to put them in his pocket. Always on my mind and in my heart

I love my pocket tees as well, I can put my phone in them and therefore less weight in my pants so they don’t fall down!

I agree with most of the crowd here. I don’t wear a shirt without a pocket. There’s a reason for the phrase “Clever as a pocket on a shirt.”

My wife still buys the occasional pocketless shirt for me accidentally, and they hang in my closet…. because I will not wear them..

I liked the pocket in the T-shirt but where I worked you couldn’t have anything in pockets above the waist. (Food plant.)

Using pockets are one thing that separate us from animals. Now I’m waiting for someone to bring up marsupials….

I’m with Earl on this one. I won’t buy a shirt without a pocket. I use it for ATM and charge receipts, shopping lists, and small stuff I buy. If I stick that stuff in a pants pocket, it tends to get laundered.

BTW, shirt pockets are NFG for cell phones. Just a bit too heavy – makes the shirt go asymmetrical.

Earl you are retired and now too many pens.Husband likes pockets and retired and uses pocket for one pen.

Why would she keep buying things she knows he won’t wear? I’ve been married 37 yrs and my husband picks out all of his own clothes. I make suggestions but that’s all. You know those cartoons where the poor, bedraggled husband just follows his wife around while she tries on clothes? We’re just the opposite.

I’d rather wear a suit & tie than a polo shirt – and I haven’t had a suit on in years.

Besides the lack of pocket that Earl references, I don’t like knit shirts – and I wouldn’t won’t anyone to think I’m the kind of guy who wears polo shirts :)

This geezer is into long-sleeve shirts with TWO pockets! Enough room for a small flashlight, pens and pencils on one side and sunglasses and a face-mask on the other.

I own two polo shirts with pockets. They are almost impossible to find.

In all my working years, I had a pocket protector full of pens, pencils, and small tools. When I retired, the protector got the boot. When I got my first iPhone, it went in the shirt pocket. Recently I bought some cargo shorts with a pocket that just fits my phone. Now, I’m wearing t-shirts with no pockets, and liking it.

I only buy shirts with pockets, which is getting harder to do now and choices are limited. I like them to keep my glasses in and notes for what to get when shopping (a phone is just too bulky)

There are reasons to wear shirts without pockets, no doubt, and I don’t mean to dispute or disparage them. But I can’t help thinking that the manufacture and distribution of such shirts on the scale that actually exists is somebody’s idea of a mean little practical joke. Because, even if you don’t need to keep anything in your shirt pocket, why wouldn’t you want to have an extra spot you could just tuck something into for a moment when your hands are full? I don’t see how someone could be expected even to imagine, when picking out a shirt to purchase or put on, that it’s going to turn out to be one of those odd specimens that doesn’t have a pocket. When you see buttons, aren’t you entitled to expect buttonholes? A shirt presumes a pocket (one at least) if not posted with a prominent warning to the contrary.

You need a shirt with a pocket because most sweat pants don’t have any, or not decent pockets, anyway.

I was at a friend’s house for a bar-b-que party. The father was grilling when his wife came by. He left, then came back a few minutes later. Says he, “This T-shirt is exactly the same as the one I was wearing except it has a pocket. Somehow, this one is acceptable and the other one not”.

I’d buy my dad Polo shirts all the time always with pockets since he was a smoker as I was (back then) so was my mom and my grandparents. Most of my relatives were and my parents friends too. However, my dad was the happiest with the dark green one I got him. Plus when they got too tight from washing etc he’d give them to me to wear which I loved, nice and loose and comfy. I hated tight clothes like most of the gals I knew.

My brother was stationed in Okinawa. My sister-in-law was amazed at the low cost of silk and wanted my measurements to make me some shirts.

Howard said, “Go ahead but he won’t wear it without a pocket.”

“That’s silly; you don’t put pockets on silk.”

“Suit yourself but he won’t wear it.”

She called and I confirmed. We compromised by her putting a loop inside the placket I could hang my pens and pencils from. (The calculator had to go in pants pocket.)

Whenever I don a shirt that has a pocket I think “I ought to do this more often”!

I’m with you, Earl. There should be a law banning pocketless shirts.
