Mini stroke – go to the hospital. I had one that last 1.5 hours, no slurred speak or sagging face. Totally lost all memory, the biggest thing was the time of day and the calendar year. I went into the shower at 8 AM then at 9:45 AM I was like it’s 9:45 we need to be somewhere and I was not dressed. My wife and I drove to the house, I had no problems with that. Everything was normal, my MRI showed normal blood, no sign of a stroke or stroke damage, but I had 5 holes in my brain, LOL, apparently that is normal, you can have 1 hole per decade of age, and the doctors are not concerned.
My sons still laugh about the time we were at K-Mart – around 1993 – and I wrote a check and dated it 1979. I cannot explain such a misfire. They knew then that dad was losing it.
Sunday night, I woke up, and realized it was Wednesday, and I hadn’t taken the trash dumpsters out to the street. Given about 30 seconds, I figure it out, but it happens a lot.
I measure out the cereal specific to that day of the week and put it in a dedicated container. I additionally measure out a serving of a specific frozen, sliced fruit as well, put in a container and then put it in the kitchen fridge to thaw out overnight. That way I begin the day, knowing what day of the week it is. I did this when I was still working mainly to add variety to my otherwise bland breakfast. Since I retired, it helps me aware of the passage of the week days which would otherwise seem the same.
It was 1959. I was in the first grade in a one-room schoolhouse in Dresden, Missouri. I looked at a calendar on the wall and had an epiphany when I suddenly realized that the calendar didn’t just show the dates and months.

The 1996 calendar is identical to this year’s calendar, so Opal might have that one up.

I did this yesterday. Someone said it was 2024 and I said, “No it’s not! It’s 19-…uhhhhh, wait. Uh-oh.”

Do people still do that? Hang a calendar right on the wall, like it’s art or something?

I kept writing 19…. for the first 5 years of this millennium.
Now I’m pretty much down to just putting in a 23 at the end.

Being retired, I occasionally get my days mixed up but NEVER the year. That’s just sad.
