Our neighbor throws the imperfects over the garden fence into the “deer accessible” part of his yard. The deer take several bites from each, leaving the rest to rot and maybe create volunteer plants.

Don’t stand too close to the window, they might throw one at you and one of those big suckers would break it.

Why is it that, for 364 days a year, parents tell their children “Never accept candy from strangers”, but then one day a year, they tell them “Go and demand candy from strangers”?

We always handed out full size chocolate bars and there was one large group of teens, that we had watched grow up over about 10 or 11 years.

I always told them to come back at the end of the night, then we gave them all of our leftover chocolate.

Unlike some of our neighbors, we were never been egged or teepeed once :-))

We forgot until the last minute, so I had to make a run to Walmart. The place was a madhouse. Apparently a lot of other people put it off until too late too.

Reminds me of one house that was giving out ‘hard candies’ wrapped in gold foil. This was obviously too tantalizing. Popped one in my mouth and immediately spit it out in yard still walking away from house. It was coffee flavored. Next day went by house and noticed several other kids had same reaction.

Whenever I go past this house, I have flashback to that evening 55 years ago.

Just how much zucchini did Opal plant? One plant per person in the household should supply plenty. (I admit I have a two-person household but plant six zucchini a year. I have two sisters and a niece that take whatever I offer to make all kinds of freezer-friendly goodies. If I still have any it either goes to a local food pantry or into the compost bin depending on amount.)
