Although having lost her husband and children in a tragic boating accident years before, Madame was never lonely, as she imagined countless figures that emerged from the patterns on all the surfaces of her sewing room.
Some relatives and former friends considered her fancies frightful and disturbing. They urged her to sell the house and live with them (their intentions were obviously suspect).
But Madame dismissed their advice. She considered the figures harmless and comforting. She claimed that the patterns had stimulated her âmagic eye.â
(Inspired somewhat by The New Twilight Zone, January 1989 Episode, âSomething in the Wallsâ)
âWhen a cowboy comes into some money the first thing he does is goes to a furniture upholsterer, picks out the gaudiest print he can find, and says âMake me a suit out of that.ââ â Chris Isaak (paraphrased)

In the midst of a heartbreak, the ladies knew it was best to just let her be, and let her play âhe loves me, he loves me notâ until she tires out and falls asleep.
One species of siren has lost the ability to attract prey by singing. Instead, their skin copies the background, even better than chameleons. They wait in ambush until a man walks by, then spring upon him.
When you are within their natural range (the drawing room) be wary of walls.
