With Brutus, Gladys needs to remember to preface her answers with “It means…”

A few years ago in Quito, Ecuador, I ate at Nose Pizza and later asked my friend, who knows Spanish, what the name meant. “I don’t know”, she replied. Then I asked our travel guide and he didn’t know either, which I thought was strange. Then I looked it up and now I know.

These texting codes are a test of my intelligence and so far I’m coming up with a low IQ.

Not everyone has a PHD (piled higher and deeper -step above MS degree (more same), a step above BS degree) in short cut lingo. Brutus is an old school soul who actually reads and writes English.

IMHO IDK is fine for the comics or texting, just wondering though how it would work IRL.

When I worked, I realized most people are afraid to ask what acronyms mean. I used to make some up and mix them in my trouble clearing reports.

Can’t blame Brutus on this one. Not being satisfied with instantaneous verbal and written communication abilities, people now regulaly use grammatically incorrect contractions and single letter to represent words for other people to guess. Future Historians and Anthropologists are going to go crazy deciphering texts, tweets etc. Just say what you mean and mean what you say…..

Back in the days of hand written timesheets we had four digit project numbers and three letter task codes. New billable projects were assigned sequential numbers, with a standard set of numbers for non-billables, including time away from the office. The task codes were simple and straight forward – ENG = engineering, PRG = programming, and so on. It took the director of engineering almost a full day to figure out just what it meant when one person had 40 hours charged to 1001 (paid vacation), with a (non-existent) task code of FUN.
