Back when we had TV we would also have a DVR so we could FF through the commercials. We thought then that we were saving time. Now that we cut the cable cord, we are saving even more time. No issues filling that time with more productive pursuits.
I remember when I used to watch TV, they would have a boatload of commercials, then sneak in and tell you what show you were actually watching! Then go back to more commercials. They actually had to remind you what show you were watching since the commercials went on forever!
That why it’s called the boob tube! Programs are at their lowest point in intelligence now and whats amazing….is they keep coming up with more garbage to gunk up the airways, and guilable minds!
I would say it’s " dumbing down America", one hour at a time!
I’m surprised at the universal condemnation. We love TV, so many sports, news, science documentaries, Ghosts, American Idol, Survivor, Conners, Todd, Bob Loves, jeopardy, plus the old reruns. Record them and there’s no commercials.
I remember starting to view a program on PBS called “Call The Midwife”. At first I thought this wouldn’t interest me. But, after a little of viewing, I waited for the second showing, om another sub station, and recorded it. I’ve recorded many, many seasons so far. I guess it appeals to my remembrance of that time in the 50’s and 60’s.
You know the show you’re watching is boring, when the commercials in the commercial breaks are more interesting, have better acting, and have more of a plot than the show.
Or the commercial breaks are too long. When the run the same commercial twice during the same break – it’s much too long – and I generally only watch the local news.
Reminded of the time we turned the TV on at the end of a Disney World vacation and found an Hercule Poirot mystery. We not only slept through whodunit, we slept through what was done.
I know its a lousy show when, having gone on my phone during the commercials, I find I’d rather keep doing whatever it is I’m doing on my phone even though the show was recommenced.

I this case the best resolution is to turn the television off.

That pretty much describes all of the dreck on TV now.

Problem is, TV ads are quite cheap now (on local channels) They can affort to bomb us! Does it help them? It’s a write off

You want to watch long enough to find the network id and avoid it in the future.

You watch the commercial to remember the show and find it is an infomercial and you ordered 2 sets while you were asleep.

I suggest “Lost Ships of WW2” “Homestead Rescue”. They keep my attention.

Aren’t the commercials the reason the rest of the country watches the Super Bowl?

They put me to sleep, literally.

Sounds like national news on all the networks. Ask your doctor if this drug is good for you?

An alternative: you doze off during a program and wake up and another is on.

Brutus is spot on. I got Cable TV but seldom watch anything on it.

Nothing like waking up in your chair at 2 am and realizing that the test pattern is the best thing that was on that night.

TV, like everything else, is subject to Sturgeon’s Law: 99% of Everything is Crap.

Something new I’ve noticed recently. A new Series will show the first couple of Episodes for free, then move the rest behind a Paywall…

Doesn’t even have to be a good book. Better than 90% of TV programming.
