FDR, locked up the Japanese. Just threw money on the Depression causing it to last longer. FDR ran on balancing the budget, saying it gives confidence in business and the economy on the whole. But his Keynesian spending plan raised the deficit from 3 Billion to over 250 Billion.

Too bad President Trump hasn’t figured out yet that the best way to reach a deal with your enemy is not to insult him relentlessly. Ummm, wait a minute, maybe he has. The biggest mistake Ukraine made when they left the collapsing USSR was to rely on the West upon giving up their nuclear weapons. Their efforts to join NATO while abutting Russia would no more be tolerated by Putin than the U.S. would have tolerated Mexico joining the Warsaw Pact. That’s probably what President Trump was referring to when he said Ukraine started the war, a somewhat careless formulation. C’mon Reuben, to really learn what’s going on ditch CNN and the N.Y. Times and get with Fox News and the Wall Street Journal. It could only better your work. I remember one of Jules Feiffer’s last cartoons, in which, after the Gipper left the presidency, he wondered if he could have been wrong about Reagan. He left a picture of a dancer pirouetting lightly away. One never knows, do one?

For a dose of reality: I have pages from a local Pittsburgh newspaper announcing FDR’s death. In an unrelated full page of photos of a local orchestra introducing elementary school students to various musical instrument, the groups are a comfortable mixture of “black” and “white” kids, with no hint of segregation, social or otherwise. So it appears that back then, racial division was not “the rule” everywhere.

I saw this yesterday on another site, so I was spoilered (and had to bite my tongue, er, sit on my typing fingers!) to keep from commenting on yesterday’s classic TtDB! Ruben, you win ALL the internets today. And yesterday. And in the future (BTW, a guest appearance from Percival Dunwoody would have fit right in.)
