Hope you had a wonderful Summer, because now you’re going to have a great Fall.

The same tune and moves that are known in America as “The Funky Chicken” is called in German “Der Ententanz” (The Duck Dance).

It has been said there is a time and place for everything. I’m not sure if I agree, but my point would be that the time, and place, for the chicken dance would not be while you’re in a tree.

Not up in a tree, perhaps, but wouldn’t Spud be the one showing dance moves?

“Any landing you can walk away from”… and “He’ll feel that tomorrow.”

The new great scandal after women’s gymnastics will be cheer…………….followed by cartoon kids……………….you know Wallace will develop CTE, all for the toonist’s glory.

I love that with the falling leaves, you know where Wallace came from. Once again the subtlety of Will Henry.

They all look bug eyed in astonishment that Wallace returned to the tree branch!

In the Summer of 1951 I fell out of a tree and broke my right leg. I was in a half-body cast in hospital for many weeks. I went to Grade 1 wearing a cast, but can’t recall a lot about it. Luckily my house was just across the street from the school, so limping there was easy. No limp developed, but on rainy days I have a slight pain develop where break occurred.

LOVE how this played out from panel to panel – I didn’t know why he was grumpy at first, since that’s not Wallace’s usual vibe..!

I could never do that dance. I’m too chicken.

Are they surprised that he tried to do the Chicken Dance on a tree limb or that he’s climbed back up the tree?

In the early to mid-60’s there truly was a dance called The Chicken – I learned it in Chicago (to the extent there was any “learning” required).

It starts with a little chicken dance and before you know it you’ll electric slide right into the hokey pokey. We know what THAT’S all about…

…and with that, we know exactly what had happened. And will probably happen again here shortly. :P

Sounds interesting, but even chickens know better than to do that dance on a tree branch……

Let this be a lesson to you: branching out is a bad idea.

Given the density of the surrounding leaves, the clear area where he laid after the fall and the leaves drifting down, I believe that he landed in a pile of leaves which helped break his fall and scattering them both around him and into the air above him.

The kids are traumatized
