(To be honest, though, whenever faced by children creating problems, give them jobs to do. They become friendlier, less hostile, more self-confident, less of a problem. At least that’s what I have always witnessed.)

One of my grand nephews is a entrepreneur. He cuts lawns and other things to make a buck.

She’s her mother’s daughter.

This is the very first kid I’ve heard of who actually wants to “be productive and contribute”.

Now that’s the funniest line I’ve read in a comic in a long time.

I’m surprised that Meg is feeling this way, making it sound like she can’t tend to her chickens and other farm chores that we’ve seen her in charge of in previous strips. She should be able to still be doing this stuff and there should be plenty to keep her busy and knowing she is contributing.

Correction: entrepreneurs do not produce and contribute. They are motivated to enrich themselves by exploiting others who wish to produce and contribute, or possibly, just survive.

I have the same look that Janis has…utter disbelief at what she just heard!

And Janice thinks: where are these children of whom you speak?!

Meg, they will not let you back in the game, they must keep control no matter what.

You have less chance of dying from Covid than getting hit by lightening and a ton of other things. Death rate is less than 1%. 600,000 / 330,000,000 = 0.18%

They keep changing the story to keep control. Remember when the story was:

“Just wear the mask and social distance for 2 weeks” and we will all go back to normal and everything will be fine"?

Remember when Trump started reacting to Covid and put the ban on people and goods from China and Fauci said there was no need for everybody to be wearing a mask?

If it was about health and not control, they would ban tobacco which kills over 480,000 EVERY YEAR. Covid was about the same point at the one year mark. And there are all the lingering illnesses to survivors and second hand smoke victims. BUT we can’t do that, there is too much money in tobacco (and in the pockets of politicians).

It is one of the most important attributes of being human, as we were created in the image if God, who was and is both creative and productive. It is the secret to a fulfilled life. Along with a couple other things of importance.

That is something people should learn in their later teens. It is destructive in earlier years.

The linemen gave me the handle of “Party Time” before I retired. I learned it was because I am the least likely person in the world to party. Hardly a badge of honor.

If ONLY, that’s what all kids would want to strive for, this would be a better place……

It’s funny – back in the day a consultant named Deming described the concept of “the willing worker”. He used to say that virtually no one comes into a new job wanting to feel oppressed and limited with little future. That all come into new opportunities with hope for the future and a desire to be part of something bigger than themselves. Then he would point at the management that he was teaching and tell them – so if you DON’T have willing workers one of two things happened, YOU either hired people that were not willing workers or even worse – YOU DAMAGED YOUR willing workers to make them problems in your organization. HOW DARE YOU choose to simply discard them. They are your responsibility. I was a pretty young engineer when I first heard this and it impacted me pretty deeply. I can tell you that the MUCH more experienced execs that were also in the situation were pretty defensive about that idea.

Meg, I wish every kid, or even a small percentage, wanted what you want.

“Mama Janis” sounds weird to me. She isn’t her step-mother.

What happened to the chickens she was raising? And selling eggs? That would go over even better than usual these days.

Just for those of you that have difficulty with the concepts — squeezing everything you can get away with out of the system is a Capitalist virtue; wanting to contribute to the system is a Socialist virtue…

The 8 to 5 grind comes soon enough, kid. Be a kid while you can.

I think that is an astute observation by JJ. Yes, kids like to feel that they are a contributing member of the family.

Meg’s hair is starting to look a bit like Janis’ old hair. (I think JJ likes an occasional excuse to draw Janis’ old hair.)
