I went through all my silverware and gave away everything that didn’t match. Except for the teaspoons. I never seem to have enough teaspoons.

So if it tastes better, you’re more likely to eat your utensils?

My wife is like Zoe. She always sets a full table with all the matching silver even if it’s all finger food.

Kids will be kids. They see thrill in all trivial aspects, unlike grown ups. Those are best times in life.

I have a favourite fork. I us it when I need some comfort food. Mac and cheese from a box eaten from my favourite Disney cereal bowl with my teddy bear fork. Wearing jammies and my battered Uggs watching Star Trek or Law and Order

I remember once when I was around 10 we had these pretty glasses with a flower pattern on them and wouldn’t you know that my mother (grrrr!) put the non matching, ugly glass at my place. I objected only to be told a glass is a glass. I tried to trade with everyone who said that but they refused. Oh well. At least the ugly glass was a little bit bigger so I got more ice tea than they did.

Sibling rivalry, she wanted to make sure she got what the others had!

Before stainless steel was invented, silver was the preferred material for flatware because other material had a taste.

Now THERE’s an idea— Flavored flatware.

No, no, no, don’t give into her, Wanda! There may be a method to her madness, but she isn’t the boss! She should be grateful to eat at all. (Yes, I know it’s just a cartoon, and that it’s not that deep.)

A charitable interpretation of Zoe’s remark is that it’s an awkward way of saying that it shows better taste.

We have a beautiful set of stainless cutlery, and one short gnarled up fork that my wife uses at every meal needing a fork because she says it fits her mouth.

The same difference having a matching washer and dryer makes, Wanda.

My children referred to the pretty cutlery as “ladies and gentlemen forks and knives” ♥️

At that age my daughter would only eat from “her” fork, with three tines.

Our family had mismatched cutlery, and frequently served yogurt. There was one spoon with a particular type of metal that tasted awful with yogurt. Must be a chemical reaction.

Over the years, I’ve accumulated 5 sets of flatware including inheriting my mom’s silver plated. Even though I have enough to make matching sets of any one pattern, I prefer to mix them up just because each different piece reminds me of the period in my life when it was in use. I also still have the kid sized set I used when I was a kid.
