OMC, Puck’s wide eyes! That’s hilarious! And then Beatrix prancing off with the lettuce, especially with her fangs showing! And her suspenders! So much cuteness to be had here! (melts from excessive use of exclamation points)
Has anyone else noticed that if you buy the four pins of the boys in pajamas separately @ $14.95 ($59.80), you save $10.15 over buying the set of four for $69.95?
Is it just me or does Beatrix look like Tabitha? Different coloring but I can see Tabitha being rather like Beatrix as a kitten? BTW I like lettuce and tomatoes on sandwiches. And sweet relish mixed into chicken salad. 8)

I absolutely love panel #4! Pucky’s wide, wide eyes as he watches and learns from his pupil. Beatrix’s joyful declamation as to the nature of lettuce! (Oh, how I would like to echo her sentiments about various “penance vegetables” sometimes.) I eat them because I need to atone for various dietary “sins” and because they contain necessary nutrients and are good for me, but I will never learn to enjoy most of the dark leafy greens that are so ubiquitous here in the deep south. Beatrix, you ARE my spirit animal; you go, girl!
Happy Caturday, everyone! It’s a good thing Paul is still sleeping because I am here with a wide grin, chuckling to myself, and scrolling up and down the comments to see the strip again!
Oh my Cat, such a fun strip! And we can learn from Beatrix’s statement of “I’ve made a mistake – no, I’ve learned a lesson!” And Puck’s huge eyes in the last panel, so wonderful!
We accidently got some catfood that had different types of vegetables in them with meat … I really don´t get who would do such a thing. In short our cat didnt exactly eat it with joy – and it has been avoided since then.
WAYYY back — I think about 54 years ago — I got home for lunch and made myself a bologna sandwich. But, we were out of ketchup. So, instead, I decided to experiment and put tabasco sauce on it. I had to get something to drink and left the sandwich on the table. When I got back, my dear old Tom (my cat at the time, and my standard for cats ever since) had pulled the bologna out from between the bread and licked it clean. My mother got home soon after and told me how Tom had probably saved me that day. Then, she fried some bologna for me, found some ketchup, and it ate it with Tom purring on my lap. He was a very good, old cat.
Our kitchen had a wrap around bar that was a bit lower than the kitchen counter. When I was in college, I would do my homework there. One day I was eating cheese and crackers and Benjamin, our black-and-white tom cat, sauntered into the kitchen and leaped up onto the counter, looking down at me. I greeted him and went back to my cheese and crackers only – surprise! My next bite was only cracker. The cheese had been snagged mid-trip by Benjamin’s claws and was being enjoyed by him. He was so quick I never saw the cheese go.
One of the gang has tracked me down again. Thank (or blame) Petey for braving the wild and woolly political cartoons to remind me to do an update.
The new kittens have been snipped. All is well and the girls have little pink bellies with 3 tiny stitches. Tommy, well, better left undescribed (shudder). They were sluggish for less than a day and are operating at about 85% warp speed.
We have decided that all meds for all cats will from this day forward be in liquid form, damn the extra cost. It is just not worth the struggle and the aftermath to pill the little buggers. Don’t even ask me about the suppositories (that was a joke boy, a joke).
5 months now and Tommy is only slightly smaller than his 11 month old half brothers. He has been scouted by the WWE kitty division and we have high hopes. The sisters are still very tiny. I wonder if they have girls in midget kitty wrestling. I’m not worried. All three are junior partners in Stampede Partners, LLC. Their futures are secure.
Sophie is becoming a total mush. Bandit is fiercely independent (except when rubbies are required) and Tommy is sort of in the middle but moving mushward. We shall see what happens now that the…ahem…hormonal factor has been removed. Just in time too. Last week Tommy was bathing and looked down in surprise. Wow! What’s that? Looks like it needs to be stuck…..hey hey hey, this is a family show.
Trixie is advancing both more and less than we had hoped. She is still very much averse to being picked up. She will sit for rubbies only if you corner her. Once engaged she remembers that it is actually pretty good, but pinning her down has become problematic.
Why? Because she is rarely to be found in her bathroom. YAYYYY! She roams the house and rarely ever sleeps in the bathroom anymore. She still hangs out mostly in dark secluded spots but we always have to be prepared for a surprise. Enter a room to find her lounging of one of the leather chairs, or looking up and seeing her staring down from the ledge around the loft. She is finding her place. I get less time to inflict mandatory rubbies because she is so hard to find. Time will tell.
She eats in the pantry/laundry room now (next to the kitchen) with whoever else fells like joining her. She is very insistent at meal times and emerges to attack Lisa (the Num-Num Giver) with furious head buts and whining.
The confrontations between Nina and [insert name] have reduced to an all time low. Despite her permanent Bitchy setting she has been mostly getting along with even the kittens. I would marvel at the tranquility if it weren’t for the numerous stampedes, once in a while with Nina included.
Clark is continuing to become more mushy, Lewis remains mushy. Spudley is also been ranging about the house. She had stayed exclusively in the kitchen (Nina again being the problem) but is now being spotted in pretty much every room. She still spends 95% of her time in the kitchen but it is good to see her stretching her range.
Shadow is Shadow. Plump and sedentary. Takes no guff from anybody but has a strict live and let live policy. Don’t mess with her and you don’t get your ass kicked. Push her too far and that fat little cat will chase you down and clobber you.
Elvis and Lupin are about 11 months now. Typical teens, embarrassed to be seen with the giant humans except when they want something. Like Lupin demanding his morning milk when I make my latte.
My ex had a cat who would lurk at your feet while we were eating pizza in the living room. Pizza on the coffee table, distracted by television, you would reach for the slice. As you drew back a pair of front paws would flash up around your wrist and draaaaagggg your arm down (he was a heavy boy). Plop. The slice would hit the floor, he would grab it and run. Stop, do what I called the “Pizza Dance” and then proceed to strip the meat and cheese like a pack of piranhas.
I love Beatrix’s outfit. The only thing missing is the bib part. I used to dress my daughter in those also. That was over 50 years ago. She would be mortified knowing that I told this about her.
I opened my porch door just a little bit ago and found the gray and white tabby kitty curled up on my door mat. I put some food out, then got my camera. I managed to get not one, but two pictures of my visitor!
Vlad loves tomatoes. Any time I make anything with fresh tomatoes, cut a small wedge, cut it up into tiny bites, put it in a bowl, turn back. Turn around and it’s gone with eyes asking for more.
Slightly off-topic, but right now, I think Conan would enjoy lettuce … or anything else I would let him have. This round of chemo was a lot easier on him than the first one and he has been a hungry boy all week long! He’s getting 5 cans of wet food plus a cup or two of dry and a few treats. Next is a respite week, before we go back to the first drug.
Beatrix is coming along nicely. Looks like her feline skill set will be far above average. Note the number of claws. She’s special in more than one way. :-)
When Dad gets tacos, the mixture of shredded cheese and shredded lettuce that falls out is given to my dog. She absolutely ignores any form of lettuce that hits the ground (and it’s a regular thing) but that lettuce touched meat and taco sauce and cheese and it disappears
Personally, I just hate romaine lettuce on sandwiches if it´s the dry kind that just is gross on my sandwich. If itś with ranch dressing it make lettuce taste amazing
