Yes, living room furniture is the natural environment of the panther.

Puck keeps reminding me of Bagheera. We can’t take credit for naming him, unfortunately, but it was just the perfect name for a black cat. I’m still convinced he thought he was a tiny panther!

Wouldn’t dare to have a houseplant, myself. If I did, the immediate reaction would be “Food!” and/or “This doesn’t belong here!”

I don’t know if it’s a question of cartoon physics or cartoon metaphysics.

I am presuming the photos were taken by humans with a human camera. So the pictures come out like a naturalistic image of the two cats. Do Beatrix and Puck see the same thing we see when they look at their images… or do they see themselves dressed in their clever little outfits.

Don’t tell me these are nudes… we’ve already seen examples of Puck’s modesty as in his embarrassment when seen emerging from the covered litter hut.

So it may be like Dracula having no reflection? We readers see the cat crew as they see themselves. But when the medium of camera/photography comes into play, the spell is broken? For us at least.

I mean, we see them in their outfits and with all their studio equipment, and we hear their voices, as they do. But the Woman and the Man and the other humans in the BCNuniverse don’t. Right?

Surely someone can work this out better than I can.

I have to keep all my plants way high up. My baby girl thinks all dirt belongs outside the pot.

Time for the dental surgeon in a bit. Pray everything goes splendid and I’ll have no trouble afterwards.

Cats like to think they could go back to the forest or jungle and re-adapt just fine. However, with my 3 fur-balls, the outside world would not have fuzzy blankets, kibble and a tinkle-ball toy. My wife and I like to say, cats that end up with us have won the cat lottery.

Today, March 27, is BCN’s Newspaper Anniversary Day, marking two years since the first newspaper strip was published!!

(This is not to be confused with BCN Origination Day, which was earlier in March—along with St. Catty’s Day, March is just chock full of holidays!)

In celebration, I humbly suggest that those of us who do not have the good fortune to have BCN in our local papers should commemorate today by writing the local paper and, politely, urging them to carry the strip. Explain why you love it and why it would be a good fit for the paper.

For those of you lucky enough to have BCN in your local paper: (a) I am envious; (b) I humbly suggest that you commemorate today by writing the paper and thanking them for carrying it. Such positive feedback will help keep it in the paper!

It is BCN Newspaper Anniversary Day! Celebrate in style!

Between my having a ‘black’ thumb and our home’s style and location (no sunny windows, just filtered light), I don’t even try for live plants. But I do like patches of greenery, so we do have a few fairly realistic artificial plants. Obviously not as attractive to the cats as live ones; only very occasionally is one attacked.

The only house plant I have right now that Yum Yum seems to object to is my new aloe vera plant. I have moved it twice since I bought it on March 11.

Beatrix, have you been nipping bits off the plant? Naughty girl!

Pucky, Beatrix, I love the pictures of how you see yourselves.

Oh yes, by the way, happy Hump Day, everyone!!

The Mayan word for jaguar is ‘Balam’. If I ever have a black cat, that’s what I’ll name him/her.

And where did the rest of those houseplants come from? I thought Elvis had eaten and horked all the other plants the Woman tried to grow.

I really didn’t get the panther thing. Puck is Walter Mitty. Black panthers have very faint leopard spots. The SF zoo had one for a while. Puck may have very faint stripes on his tail. :-)

I have a black cat named Diego aka Schmoo, I am sure he is a miniature panther. He has the pointed face, and thick tail as well. So, this just adds to my being sure.

At one time I had two black cats. One of them was a black panther; the other was more a black pudding.

When is a person not a person?

When you are a terrain feature. Lisa understood this on an intellectual level, but not until my weekly road trip did you fully comprehend the totality of the transformation. I typically am in bed earlier than Lisa. Which means I am the terrain feature. By the time she comes up I have reverted back to human form. Last night it was she who took the brunt of the brutality. HA!

The 3 kittens like to wrestle and tussle. Between naps, rubbies and food. One of these WWE periods happens to take place right around time I settle in with a book. Ding Ding. A stampede (usually Sophie and Tommie) hits the bed like a tornado. Run chase pounce fight break retreat crouch pounce RUMBLE.

On me, the terrain feature. Beneath the covers, legs, feet and torso are magically transformed. I am now a wall, a gully, a mountain top, launch point, backboard, hurdle, gym horse and any other fixed obstacle you can name. The wrestling proceeds on me, across me, next to me, lather, rinse repeat. Add the 3rd kitten and it gets dicey. Add Lupin or Elvis and it can get painful. Those boys are getting heavy.

Ding Ding. And they rocket off the bed down the stairs through the living room back up the stairs across the bed (and me) into the closet with a fast return to the bed. And…..WRESTLE. On me, across me, next to me, lather, rinse repeat.

Tomorrow we shall discuss attacking the monsters under the cover (feet) and why scratching your…ahem…under the cover can produce a feeling much like getting kicked in the…ahem.

Update dental surgeon ****Went to the dental surgeon today to have a broken molar and some roots of another molar removed. The roots were removed very swiftly, but the molar showed a dogged tenacity to not be moved. That was because there was a bone-growth that hindered the removal.Unfortunately, it was either drill away all the pieces or take a piece of bone out with the molar. The last option was chosen, and was not pleasant.Thankfully, I have plenty paracetamolum.
