In other news, I’m home again, resting, and I am mostly comfortable. Giblet, Belle, Mitten have to learn that my belly isn’t open for their nightly ascent to my chest for purrs and boops. The last thing I need would be for a claw to puncture the bag. Ah, the new normal.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and encouragement. I guess I will use my enforced rest to write.

I sure hope we get to see some of Burt’s funny videos too! That sounds like almost as much fun as camping in the house.

So, I’m back after a lovely week at the cabin. Yum Yum and Smudge are sort of getting along. At least, there was no blood on the floor.

All the Cats we have adopted that were feral never wanted to leave the house or even go outside. They knew all sweet they had it

Ah, the neighbors setting off fireworks into the wee small hours of the morning. Reboot doesn’t even twitch an ear when one goes off loud enough to make me jump. Database, on the other hand, jumps at every pop and crackle, poor baby. I often wonder what happened to her before she was rescued from the top seat of the tennis stands at school when she was just a tiny thing. No way did she get up there by herself. She hates outside, loud noises, other female cats, outdoors, heights, and going out of the house.

Cozies? Hot cocoa? Isn’t it hot in BCN world?

OT but totally on topic yesterday. My sister and nibling came over for the lame legal fireworks (plus potato salad and quinoa—whatever that is!—salad and patriotic cupcakes). In defense of our fireworks, they’re legally required to only be small fountains, with nothing going up in the air. And if they would mark them for which made the noises and which didn’t, I would happily not buy the noisy ones. Anyhoo, one of our fireworks made a louder than anything we’d heard before explosion and pieces of it flew everywhere. When we gathered up the pieces we found two parts of a tube that hadn’t burnt, full of black powder (?), and as I was wondering if we could set those off somehow, my sister up and asked the same thing. Which meant that I—the known pyromaniac—was forced to be the one to say “Every single story where the fireworks person goes blind, or loses a hand, or whatever starts exactly that way”. As I dumped the unburnt pieces into our water bucket.

And as we took turns igniting our remaining fireworks, I must say we all moved a bit more energetically to distance ourselves as the fuses burned. This was the most excitement I’ve ever had with fireworks, and just for the record I have a new appreciation of why we keep the legal fireworks a bit lame!

Elvis might not like the part about finding his own dinner “out in the wild”!

When did it become “hot cocoa?” In the ’50s when my mom included cocoa stirring in my sous chef duties we called it “cocoa.” She tricked me and assigned me things like creaming butter and sugar and stirring things that need to thicken.

Goldie is apparently perfectly fine staying indoors after some negative outdoor experiences… that’s handy. My family’s various cats were never content staying inside after discovering the outdoors. Although my sister did manage to delay the last cat’s discovery by waiting until he crept onto the porch and then dousing him with water (lol).

Outside is wasted on people too.
