Or enlist the help of a local clowder of fuzzy chainsaws (a.k.a., feral cats).
When the hay field next door was cut in the fall, my fuzzy chainsaws and the old “retired” Feral Tom Cat (who always scoffed at my feeble attempts to TNR) would disappear from the barn, engage the thundering herds of fleeing mice and chipmunks, and return to the barn the next day looking like they were the film extras playing Colonel Kurtz’s men from the movie Apocalypse Now.
And I would also find a mouse offering by my front door — not sure if it was a snack for me or rent for another year of room and board in the barn.
Even though they had canned food for breakfast & dinner (and unlimited kibble (which the trash pandas and possums would help themselves too), my girls loved “Fast Food” (mice, chipmunks, moles/voles, and an occasional stupid bird). They had plenty of energy to “Sport Hunt” every morning, evening, and night.
Here in the UK, there was a girls’ comic called Princess Comic. It was a little before my time. It later merged with a comic called Tina and became Princess Tina.
New character! Old Mag looks so affectionate in the final panel. The moles do not strike me as particularly knowledgeable about raccoon royal houses, but I suppose it is always necessary to protect the heir.
Ah yes Princess Magazine. A little known fact about Princess Magazine, she is the founder and original editor of Better Mole and Gardens. In this months issue there are wonderful articles such as:
I’m sensing a Ninja reference here, appropriate since the raccoons are masked masters of stealth and subterfuge.Like the ninja of Edo Japan, the leader of the clan would be the most capable that the clan follows by mutual acclamation. In this regard Mags would be similar to the military leader, perhaps with the respect of the Shogun. Look at how the raccoons are attired with tools/weapons on their backsand the respect shown to Mags by the other animals. Meritocracy rather than primogeniture however the pool of candidates comes from a bloodline.

Also, kind of glad the heir to the throne isn’t the kit trying to grab fire.

She does have a regal air (sp?) to her. I also see the way she is similar to Bea. Baba will protect her from the lawn potatoes.

Very glad to see that raccoon royalty is a matriarchy.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhh.
[Pauses to draw breath.]
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhh again.
[Recovers breath again. Marches sternly to blackboard, raps on it hard with pointer.]
Second conditional form!
“If the moles CAME for any of them, it would most likely be this one.”
No “would” in the “if” clause!
[Muttering] Don’t they teach anything in schools these days? It isn’t difficult.

If those are her grandkits, how can Princess Mag be the sole heir? What are the rules of succession for raccoons?

I love the way Princess Magazine looks at her paws in panel 3 as Queen Mag says “The future of the raccoons rests in her tiny paws.”

Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war!
Or maybe release 1 hungry Owl.

Royal succession, kingdoms in peril, court intrigue. To really appreciate Shakespeare, you need to read it in the original Racoon.

This is the best written and best drawn strip on Go Comics. Please stop over analyzing. My own opinions of course.

Old Mag’s name is Magnet, so I guess the name is not carried on fully. There could be worse choices than Magazine!

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
At the Nile Harbor
Iggy: Thanks for taking me out on your fishing run, guys.
Fresh Water Cat: It’s our pleasure. Can always use an extra pair of paws when we’re fishing.
Salt Water Cat: And I think we’re going to have some good luck on this run.
Iggy: Do you feel lucky, guys? Do ya?
Small Voice: I know I do.
Fresh: Tash! How did you sneak aboard?
Tash: I’ll never tell!
Salty: Do you see the school over there?
Iggy: Not Diem Carp!
Salty: No, but something just as nice. Perfect perch!
Fresh: Looks like Sue Chef is gonna prepare a feast tonight.
Salty: Too bad we can’t get some to Floof and Thomios at the culinary school.
Tash: That shouldn’t be any problem.
