I think Praying Mantis’s are the coolest insects. I once saw one in my yard. It slowly turned it’s head back and forth and followed me as I moved in front of it. I was fascinated as it watched me without moving at all except its head.
They didn’t include any arachnids, so the spiders were pretty ticked off. (I know arachnids are not insects, but they’re creepy, crawly life forms.)
There are some types of roaches that actually are attracted to light. And they tend to be the bigger ones. The common German roach is typically light averse so the idea of scattering is more due to how the roach that is most common in the western world is encountered.
