Whenever I see this strip, I think that dad is looking at his tie rather strangely in the last panel. Almost as if he is contemplating using it for something else.
As I remember it, you never learn how to win graciously. You do learn about teamwork, when the rest of the team works together to blame you for losing.
He’s around people at work and around people at home. The only time he’s alone is when he is commuting. He should buy a wig and listen to music so he can have fun while driving.
Dad is not totally correct. I have found much fun I can have by myself. Golfing, hiking, bicycle and motorcycle riding. Golfing is my favorite. Even when playing in a foresome I walk for exercise and to have time to myself. And the game is just me and the course. Also don’t play for money which keeps it personal.
Boy, isn’t that the truth. For years we’ve been told that you have to learn how to work with everyone’s different work styles. Unless you like to work alone, then you’re an outcast and have to be re-educated.
Same with me Calvin, I never liked sports and never signed up to play. I remember from 5th grade a bunch of us kids including me try to be last, teacher caught on and changed that, I was lousy.
For once I have to agree with the bratty 6 year old. The last thing you want is for them to have a bad experience with group activities. You might end up turning them into a misanthropic loner.
I grew up an only child and for my entire life have liked being alone. I am comfortable and sociable with others, but during this shutdown I am actually less stressed than normal and I do not know why, because financially this should make me more on edge.
Sometimes I wish I could kill Calvin’s father right now, imagine having a father like that, I hate how he keeps using the term “it builds character” it’s so annoying.

Sometimes Dad forgets that Calvin is a 6 year old. And like him, something of a loner.

“Having fun by yourself” not allowed when you get older?? Not sure what dad’s implying here.

I think Calvin has a point. Some kids just AREN’T WIRED for team activities like sports and scouting.

He`ll probably grow up to run Spectre, or some such organization that wants to rule or extort the world.
