Coming Soon š At the beginning of April, youāll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
This is an old Easter Egg in the world of Macintosh computers. Back when versions 7 through 9 of the operating system were used, there was a control panel item named āColor Pickerā. When opened, it presented you with a virtual crayon box and settings you can adjust to meet your needs. If you were to adjust the date in the system clock forwards over the years or decades, once you go back into Color Picker, youāll notice how much progression of each crayon being worn down to a near stub of a piece.
Whatās ātragicā about a person using an inanimate object to do something enjoyable? Calvin loves to give human traits to such objects (such as his doll). He also seems to think thereās something sad about the fact that using a crayon uses it up, a variation of complaining that one cannot have oneās cake and eat it too.
I wish during the course of my life, one of the most tragic things to have occurred to me was the fact that any crayons I used wore down to a stub. I mean, Iāve endured pens running out of ink! The kid has it easy.

The large boxes of Crayolas have built-in sharpeners.
sirbadger about 11 hours ago
Thatās why you buy 2 boxes of crayons. You keep one box pristine and you can read the colors on the label.

Calvin, think of the unfortunate kids in poor countries that can only get used crayons.
californiamonty about 11 hours ago
Especially with the color commentary, Calvin.

A crayon is safe in its unopened box. But thatās not what crayons are made for.

On the other hand, maybe the worn down, smudged state is the most beautiful and wondrous.

Calvin, are you forgetting about the crayons you left in the car? On the ledge by the back window? In the summer sun?
Mainesailah Premium Member about 4 hours ago
Our dog used to eat my crayons, if I left them where she could get them. The lawn had all these colorful piles in the spring.

A new pack of 64 different, brilliant colors with embedded sharpener was the elementary-school crack of the ā50s.

Calvin can feel empathy for a crayon. Thatās a good sign. We have way to many sociopaths running around loose as it is.

Calās having a ādownā time. But, given his fractious nature, his next battle with life will begin in about a minute.
uniquename about 3 hours ago
I suppose it depends on your perspective. Weāre meant to get worn down and mixed with other colors. Thatās not tragic, itās a life well lived.

Agreed, Cal. Agreed.

He is right. There is just something about a pristine box of crayons.

I fully expected him to start gloating about how he was going to use up the crayons and destroy them.
