In 2016 voters wanted to shake things up, which is why (unlike 2020) Bernie Sanders could have won in the November general election.
In 2020 voters wanted the shaking to stop.
We just want a return to normal.
We just want a return to BORING.
We just want to get through the day, read or watch the day’s news, without freaking out over what the crazy guy did that day.
Trump called Biden “Sleepy Joe” and what voters heard was, “Vote for Joe Biden and you’ll be able to get a good night’s sleep once again” and, as a result, despite massive Republican voter fraud, cheating, foreign interference, voter suppression, closing polls in Democratic strongholds, purging Democratic constituencies from voter rolls, etc., Biden still crushed Trump by MORE THAN SEVEN MILLION VOTES and an Electoral College margin that Trump called a “landslide.”
I don’t see how that will ever be possible. Best I can hope for is a return to almost normal behavior by about half+enough of us, and a gradual trend toward removing most of the awfulness that the last 4 years of federal government has dumped on us. (Sigh)
I have made the same resolution every year for years. To make no resolutions. Have not broken it yet. This year I resolve to keep nagging people to wear mask, stay home and wash their hands.
How much for the unused Trump Sharpies after January 20th ? Thought Biden might use them to sign Executive Orders reversing Trump’s. Be a great photo-op.
I look forward to being able to wake up in the morning and being able to log onto a news site WITHOUT having to wonder “Oh God, what stupid thing did The Tangerine Traitor do THIS TIME?”
Normal was what allowed a wannabe dictator to attempt to overturn our constitutional quasi-democratic republic and deny freedom and equal justice/opportinities for all races, religions, ethnic origins, and genders. We need to prevent any single political party from tampering with our government/courts and restore the power to true patriots who will protect America’s constitutional quasi-democratic republic from fascist rule. America should no longer be a haven for the wealthy who have their own Congresspeople but a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, not just the 1%. It’s time to clean house and purge the traitors from our system.
It’s going to take more than a year, and as has been pointed out it depends on what is meant by “normal.” I’d like to see “normal” as meaning Americans can disagree with one another without vitriol and violence. I’d like to see “normal” as believing science and fact should override opinion or wishful thinking. I’d like to “normal” as allowing a young person, regardless of color, being able to take a walk or a jog without fearing for his life. I’d like to see “normal” as when Americans ask “what can I do” rather than “what’s in it for me?”
If only getting rid of the Sharpie and returning to a normal pen was that easy………………….it won’t be. Repairing the damage will be a monumental task, but it’s a positive start.
The founders of the USA learned a lot from Greece, Rome, and many parts of Europe. May the Current leaders of America learn new lessons from around the world and take the best to create a better USA for its citizens and the world.
The quickest way to “normal” is to acknowledge the current exceptional circumstances and fully comply with health advisories. Trump’s vaccine distribution system would take ten years to vaccinate us all, at the current rate. DON’T count on the vaccine to save us. Act as though you already have coronavirus. We have no one to blame but ourselves.
Or not. Normal wasn’t all that much to write home about. Return to the same levels of corruption, greed, racism, bigotry, nationalism? Not for me, thanks.

With a global pandemic mutating as it is from a tricky novel Corona virus 19 that may alter normality a bit.
