Looking back at February 9th, I still don’t understand the pretense for ol’ Sweaty’s conversation with the Mayor. What would she have to do with helping to keep things quiet? She still seems fishy to me.
This doesn’t really clarify things much for me; I still have way too many unanswered questions. We may never know what really drove Sweatbox. But I bet he’s sweating plenty where he is now!
Given George’s age at the time of the first murders, he’d have had to be a really bad boy to do the deeds— and could not have hoped to get away with it.
IF Mayor Armstrong IS dirty, and she is tied somehow to sweaty (which i dont believe EITHER of by the way)… do you think that maybe it COULD have been her that tipped off the newsies to the raid on Panda’s shop/mr crime’s hq?!?! i seem to remember that wendy wichel and her newsteam got there pretty quickly and broke the story. i would imagine that only someone with INSIDE information on the pending raid would h ave been able to spill the beans and get a newsteam there so quickly. but then again, the mayor did seem rather irked when wendy grilled tracy on the steps in front of the (?) municipal building later on (or was that BEFORE?)
That’s an interesting web site that George has on his computer in the background. Most newspaper websites that I have seen don’t design their on line sites to look like the print edition. (I wish they did)
Question for DT fans out there, regarding SB’s death last week. I seem to remember in 1959, the death of Mole, in a similar “accident.” I know it was 1959 because CG drew some very convincing 1959 Ford sedans; two police cruisers in blue and Mole’s car in green. A train was crossing and Mole was trapped by a police car behind him. But as the caboose was crossing, the police didn’t have time to get out of the car. When the crossing cleared, Mole saw that there was a police car facing him – so he turned and crashed his car into the caboose, towing him away from the crossing. The next cartoon was that of DT standing over the burned out wreckage of Mole’s car, still behind the caboose. DT identifies Mole’s corpse. Does anybody else remember this?
Why do the phone calls have what looks like blue lighting bolts around them all the time?
^^Actually, since the days of the original “wrist radio”, they have always showed that it was on with lightning bolts; this goes all the way back to the 40s and Chester Gould; SDM, please stop trying to be snotty, you are able to make good, intelligent comments, a few weeks ago, you and Otto proved that you can get along; so, why spoil it? (PS, I know you didn’t start it this time…I’d like to take Tsull out to the woodshed for goading you like that)
The explanation of WHY SB killed all those people is a bit muddled, but, obviously, it has to do with the fact that the original story, about a mass killer of children, was eventually downplayed
Mikeyj already said this, but I will repeat it because it goes to the “mood” of the Dick Tracy art:
Chester Gould always used what I thought of as “static lines” to show that the 2-way wrist radio was in operation. I can remember vividly Tracy sitting in his car, waiting for Sam to reply with an ID for Wormy’s license plate, in the case of the Interupted Honeymoon. They weren’t talking, but the radio was on, and I could imagine that there was a slight hum, because of those electrical looking lines. I can still feel that art, just telling you about it 50 years later.
When you are a serial killer the reason is only for motivation. They kill to live to kill. *************************I don’t watch “The Following” but I do watch “Criminal Minds” and if we are to believe that show there is always a motive for killings. That motive my be twisted and illogical to the rest of us, but there is a motive and a trigger that sets the killer off. They don’t just randomly wander the streets killing the first person they come across, unless, of course, that person somehow fits into the killer’s twisted logic.
“Doesn’t ANYONE change their shirt in this strip?”-————————————————————————————Glad you asked that question ?
It was the same problem with Locher’s – Lizz !She seemed to wear the same White Turtle Neck sweater every day for 5 or 6 years (?). . . and like you, I could never get an answer.Seems it was ‘related’ to Tracy’s red striped tie !
Umm, I just think you’re basically a good guy and I’d like to see you follow your “better angels”, as they say; this forum is so pleasant when everyone gets along.
Looks like the lighting bolts made Tracys wrist radio switch hands! SHAZAM!!!^^His wrist radio/TV/computer/Wizard has always been on his left hand, actually
On the other hand, in earlier times, many serial killers were people who would marry victims and kill them to get their money, but, these “Black Widows/Widowers” are a dying breed (excuse the pun).
DL was old & senile, having lost the fire and passion years before the actual end of his tenure. It’s understandable given his circumstances that Lizz would agree to wear the same white turtleneck sweater to ease his burden. Don’t you agree?^^I agree, most cartoonists tend to draw their characters in just a few fashions, to save time or make them memorable, such as Schulz who made a certain wavy t-shirt famous, or for that matter, a certain Dick, known for his Yellow trenchcoat and hat
Stagger Lee said, 11 minutes ago—-In the 3rd panel you are looking at Tracy from the back.^^Yup , you can tell by his hat that we are now seeing him from the rear, thus, the Wizard is still on his left wrist, as always
I have seen the strip today on here and on Comics Kingdom. I tend to agree with Stagger Lee. I believe what appears to some to be his hand and glove are actually light reflecting on the back of his overcoat. I do agree that it is confusing but I believe that Joe has shown in the past that he is very conscious about whether a character is left or right handed. BTW, where is Tracy in the last panel? In the middle of the street? Inside the police garage?
No doubt, this was a mistake. Just look at Tracy’s arm on the left. It would have to be bent in the wrong direction and hurt plenty if this was a rear shot.
For those who are interested in knowing when Moon Maid’s story will begin, Mike Curtis made an announcement today on the Yahoo group:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DickTracy/message/16565
What I’ve learned from all this, Otto, is that you and I are “regular folks”. We have no special priveledges. According to GoComics, the complaints come from a “Sherpa”. That narrows the list of complainers down drastically.Actually, to three – or, if you use your imagination, one. And, then of course, they remove your posts. 5 minutes later, guess who is yucking it up and in a jovial mood.
