Gunther, Rosa doesn’t think you are that boring. She just wants a little initiative and a little romance. Kiss her without asking permission for goodness sake!

Romantic idea for Gunther. Sew your own quilt, bake some cookies, and take Rosa for an impromptu picnic in the library. That should be in your comfort zone enough for you.

You are who you are, Gunther. Break up with Rosa and meet some nice girl who’s terrified of intimacy and who craves a quiet life free of all excitement. Kiss her once a year on New Year’s Eve, stay as far away from each other as possible the rest of the time, wait until you’re both about 50 before getting married, go on your honeymoon in twin beds, and spend the rest of your life more nearly as housemates than as spouses. Therein lies your key to satisfaction, if not actual happiness.

-People are dynamic creatures, not rocks. They can change. They do change. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not.-Agreed, and if someone is unhappy with himself and WANTS to change, there is nothing wrong with that. So those who keep saying that Gunther should just allow himself to be Gunther are not paying attention to the fact that he himself is not happy about the person he is right now.

-Another way to put it is that we give advice to “comic strip characters” because we can relate to them, -Some of the info we exchange here is probably helpful to a lot who read, but don’t comment, and who may have the same concerns as those shown in the comic…-Giving advice to a cartoon character is the same thing as shouting ’don’t go into that dark basement!’ to the kid in the horror movie who is going to do exactly that. It gives us an opportunity, together, to recognize the monsters in our own lives and maybe figure out how to slay them….

As has been pointed out he has a lot of good points which probably attract Rosa, including being gentle, very smart, sincere and not a fake, a great artistic sense, a sensitive nerdy guy who probably will be quite well off, and accomplished as an adult. Just keep getting better, take some chances, for God’s sake dress a bit better!!

1:Clothing. He needn’t wear the same outfit.2:Who asks who out. He may have it planned to the nth degree, but it’s still progress if he asks Rosa out to somewhere. 3:Kissing:Seriously, it’s a physical movement that he has proven ability to do.

-people who reply first should be neutered so they can’t reproduce more idiot offspring.

Similar to Nazi philosophy towards the Jews.-Not even…

    -

the US has, in past, actually sterilized those who had been forcibly institutionalized in what we used to call insane asylums. That was wrong. But it was nothing like the construction of a series of camps to burn in ovens or starve to death people whose religion (Jewish and some Catholics), ethnic origin (Polish and Romany), mental abilities, gender identification, political beliefs (nonNazi) or sexual orientation did not meet the standards of the rulers of the country….

-The Nazis kept intensive records of the fate of each internee, confiscated property, experimented on those still alive in camps and used them as slave laborers.-There have been and continue to be terrible slaughters of people on this planet, but the Nazis still rank beyond even what is going on in Syria now and what was done in the Soviet Union after the Communists took over.

-Yeah, I’ve heard all the self-hatred from my fellow Jews that I need for a lifetime. If these folks knew the history, maybe the self-hate would lessen, I don’t know.- The reality is, yes, the Nazis didn’t suddenly appear. But their first acts had nothing to do with kicking out the Jews. They began by sterilizing the mentally ill, because it offended them that there was anyone in their midst who was so imperfect. At the same time that his was happening, Jews and others less acceptable were being moved into ghettoes.- And here’s the thing: Jews and other minorities had been forced to live in segregated areas of Europe for a long time before it began in Germany. So it didn’t seem like anything new, to the population at large or the Jews themselves. Certain professional became off limits to Jews, like teaching in a university or being a doctor. This had happened in the past in Spain. Jews in Germany often considering themselves ‘German’ rather than Jews, so they didn’t think it applied to them. And some were able to continue their lives for some time. Arrests didn’t happen till much, much later.-After sterilizing mentally ill, many of those in institutions were put to death. The Nazis waited on their next actions to see if anyone objected internationally. Apparently not. So they started on their ‘final solution’ for the Jews, but at the same time, moved against other nationalities and religious groups.

-In addition to the 3 million Polish Jews who were ultimately killed by the Nazi’s ‘final solution’, there were 3 million non Jewish Poles slaughtered. A lot were Catholics, some were Eastern Orthodox. -

None met the Aryan definition, so they were denied a ‘liebenstraum’ (living space) , forcibly removed to ghettos out of sight of the general Aryan population who were being fed nonsense about how these enemies had stolen their birthrights and so on. Those who the Nazis decided to kill were not ‘invited at gunpoint to leave’. They were forcibly removed at gunpoint, although the Nazis were happy to accept money from anyone willing to buy the freedom of those they were moving.-If someone suddenly attacks you while you are still healthy and in the home you’ve bought, it’s one thing. After you’ve been rounded up at night when thugs break down your doors, transported to strange areas on packed cattle cars standing up (with no food and no bathrooms), you probably wouldn’t be able to fight back well, either.-Yet there WERE rebellions. The Jews in the ghetto in Warsaw fought, but they lost. They had no arms to fight against the armies of Hitler, and no allies if they did manage to escape from the ghetto. There were those who did survive, escaping through sewer lines and such. Some joined a French underground resistance.-But the idea that as organized a killing machine as the Nazis could have easily been stopped by unarmed, untrained shop keepers fighting their torturers makes as much sense as asking why the women who were kidnapped and imprisoned by that serial rapist didn’t just overpower him and walk out, or why those on the flights that crashed into the Twin Towers on 9-11 didn’t just rise up and subdue their captors.-People need to read history, because they are making major assumptions that are not supportable by facts. -Why don’t all those North Koreans fight against the dictator who is starving them to death or throwing them in prison? Fighting the armies of a government that has decided to kill you is an overwhelming burden.

    -

Ask the Seminole Indians. Better yet, ask the Mayans. If you can find any of them….
