Delta: "Hey, Bernice! What's up?"
Luann: "Where is she?"
Delta: "Where are you?"
Bernice: "Home. Listen, major change of plans. I've decided we'll feed the needy family -"
Bernice: "-Then you are I are gonna go rock the prom!"

āBest Of Both WorldsāāFeed Your Cake And Have It, TooāāSeqins And ApronsāāDinner And DancingāorāāŖā¦.You Say You Want A Resolutionā¦ āŖā
Well, I have to say that I never saw this resolution of the āprom problemā comingā¦and, on that note, my Irish is crashed, time to put her ānitesā¦ ;)
She does, doesnāt she? Yes, I donāt know whatās up with those three āfeelersā, either! Sheās going to be a knock-out! And, I bet Delta will be, too, that is if she decides to goā¦ ;)
I still think the story-line should be that Leslie Knox (after many turn downs by others) will invite Bernice to the Prom. Major contradiction of personalities to play out !!.Bernice will at first refuse, even find his words insulting. But she will see acceptance as the epitome of NOT being sensible, she will accept..Berniceās friends will violently oppose this. She will enjoy feeling reckless..She will make a deal with Les ā no nonsense. He will keep it, more or less. Ox, always in the shadows, will be a guarantee..Ox thinks he is Tiffās date, but in reality he seems only her bouncer. Who is Tiff going with?
One of my daughters went to prom with a group of girls she was friends with, and only a couple had dates. They went to have fun. The next year she went with a date, but said it was more fun with her group of friends the year before. Itās pretty common for girls to go without dates, and just have fun.
Maybe if she straightened her hair and got contacts. She would be surprised at how good she might look. Luann got a make over, her mom got a make over, now it is Bernās turn. How about it Greg?
That would defeat Deltaās whole reason for choosing Prom Night to feed the needy. It is imperative that she seem noble by doing something āworthwhileā instead of something āfunā. Deltaās best hope to achieve sainthood is now to plan on feeding another needy family, right after the first one. Keep feeding needy families all night until the Prom is over, Delta!
Wow. Firstly this is a COMIC STRIP. Secondlyā-maybe our communities would be in a little better shape if people who blog to this stuff showed a bit more interest in reality. I am up at 6am on a Saturday to go and volunteer with a group of people. It isnāt that big of a deal; lots of people do it but it has more realism than some of you who apparently think these drawn people are real.
Great for Bernice, finally saying exactly what she wants. BUT Delta does NOT want to go to the prom. Both girls should do what they want to and not try to coerce the other into doing what they want.
Itās not just that Delta doesnāt want to go to the Prom. Delta actively wants not to go to the Prom. Not going is really important to her, so she shouldnāt. Get a date with a guy, Bernice, and give Delta her big chance to feel smug and self-satisfied by not attending.
Attention Leviticus. To answer your questions from a few days ago with regard to Gregās lead time. Today, March 1, I downloaded black and white Luann strips dated Monday 3/24 to Saturday 3/29. Thatās three weeks from his final art to publication. Colorists must get the final work back to Universal a week before final release with few exceptions. ======Greg is very methodical about staying well ahead of schedule so itās a good bet heās done writing a couple weeks before the strips are in final art form. Remember, he still has Sunday work and he takes those right through to color himself. So the often discussed reader feedback loop is quite a long one. Another thing, the online comic strip distribution experience is still relatively new for old pros like Greg who were mailing in paper-based art not too long ago. Strippers like him came up working in isolation from their fans save for letters, events like book signings, comic fests, etc. While interested in knowing what his fans think, Luann springs from within him and not from external opinions and suggestions. Adding his daughter, Karen, to the creative mix did not mean he handed off steering the ship.
I donāt know about a rule, ukuraine, but my prom committees (Junior Prom and Senior Ball) would sell tix only to couples. Of course, that was 197[CENSORED]ā¦.
āSundry pass by, and dare to spit into a lakeTo feed water to that which will already beOr perhaps it turns into a mirrorās gazeBehind the eyes of the one that seesā¦..ā
I should have been more specific. I was referring to his direct involvement with the online fan base. That still is a new addition, i.e. more work to do, compared to the old ways when his work routine was formed. Itās a relentless deadline driven job and that is why most cartoonists donāt color their dailies. Itās an added chore with no return in pay.
I wouldnt say Delta is being portrayed as a moronā¦.we all know people for whom social causes or politics are their whole lives, and they have NO idea how to unwind and have fun, even if for a few hours on one day.
I donāt recall either of them feeding the homeless. So long as she doesnāt go dressed like that or make her self a target as a clueless naive, but kind. On that note, I just realized how bad this can turn out. How much bigger of a BULLEYE TARGET do you need than a couple of girls all by themselves handing out food/drink on the street in the slums?
I like thatā Bern was a somewhat-willing participant in Deltaās plan to feed a needy family. Now the tables are turned so Delta will indeed have to go along with Bernās plan to follow up at the prom.*Sounds like they really ARE good friends, not just accidental co-friends of Luann.*And yeah, some mysterious guys are going to appear. But how? But when? But where? But why?
āMiss Phelps didnāt go to prom, so Bernice is going to prom. Miss Phelps would stay in school until the final bell, so Bernice skips school to go buy a dress.ā*ReallyBadā you know what would be reallyfun? Ms. Phelps chaperones, and pairs up with some other adult there (not Fogarty), so she too can say she did the prom thing, albeit 20 years later.
āI presume the needy and the hungry eat every day (or would prefer to. For the āmerelyā disadvantaged, food stamps/ welfare/ food banks serve outside of or in conjunction with social servicesā^Not all people fall into the so-called āfood stampā category. Many are denied this for āmaking too much to qualifyā. -The truly hungry are not always the homelessā¦ I live in a general metro area where the large urban metro city has a sizable homeless population who go to soup kitchens, but there are also people who through various circumstances also fall onto hard times. Iām not sure of where you live, but I can assure you, the need for help does not ask for a name or social statusā¦. ā We even have Public Service Announcements, and various other programs that also show this to be true. And where people fall through the cracks, Iāve seen firsthand how people (friends and family and community) pull together and have offered assistance in time of needā¦ some for the short term, some a little longerā¦. but in the end, itās not just some āneat little problem limited to a select few or a small group of peopleāā¦.
There are also programs such as āEnergy Assistanceā and āThe Fuel Fundā locally, as well as other programs for families with āincomes too low to āsurviveā on, too high to be deemed ā1st priorityāā. So many people either go on waiting lists or have to turn to other places, some of which are also run by local/state government, and those that are private are put under various guidelines that actually only equal the same outcome as the rejection from the government agencies that referred the people in the first place .
And even then, the programs rely on community raised donations and are actually only allotted/allocated a certain amount each year to assist. When no funds are available, itās on to the next place, or as I mentioned before, the waiting list. In the meantime, guess what happensā¦ they have to choose between bills paid, food, medical care, or clothes for school. This is why a family might go hungry. If something happens and their income is suddenly (or even drastically) reduced through a hurricane or tornado ravaging their source of income (job or business flow) or perhaps a loved oneās medical bills drain a familyās finances or some other occurrence, a family can undergo this hardship and thereās not always a ātime limitā on how long it goesā¦..
Canāt Greg give her a makeover? Lose the headband and glasses, give her lips, and add makeup. Knute would look just as good in that outfit as she does now. Itās about time that the mouse roared.
Black and White bookends with the same hair. They should organize all the singles to go to the Prom. Why should only couples get to go? That should be their ācauseā for the night.
I suspect Delta would enjoy not going to the Prom more than she would enjoy going to it. Not going will let her feel good about herself. Although feeding the family is important to her, it is better if itās an alternative to the Prom, instead of something she does before the Prom. Missing the Prom is whatās most important to Delta, not doing some good deed in addition to attending the Prom.
Now, I gotcha! ā Well, perhaps itās just in the perception. There are people we may know of personally, and though we can say āthey can go to this place and that, for the one nightā, nothing is like the personal touch, to warm the heart as well as the stomach for that timeā¦ ā Think of it this way; Maybe as Delta decided that she didnāt feel comfortable going, then her second choice would be to do what she enjoys, in her case, stuff like this. Instead of that family going to benefit from āstrangersā, maybe she felt is was more personable for them to feel comfortable in a more "intimateā environmentā¦. ā So, in actuality, her āpassionā for this would be the equivalent of a teen who was a musician who, instead of going to the dance would just go and do what he/she loves, something music related. Something that involves their passion, as their second choice. Or for someone who is into cooking, decides they didnāt want to go, and just decides to bake or something. ā And too, no matter how much money is given, there still needs to be bodies to helpā¦. so if there was to be a āsoup kitchenā that they went to, then, there again would be her āpassionāā¦
I think, too, what people may have trouble with, when it comes to these two (and especially Delta) is that there are those who have fun, but also see things from a different perspective. Sometimes, others wonāt believe when someone like Delta says and does as she does, because they just donāt āseeā things the same way as her. ā They always say āyouād have to walk a mile in someone elseās shoes to understand themā, but even then , we donāt bleed, feel, see, think or express ourselves, nor have inner feelings or values in exactly the same way.-I think that this is part of what todayās strip is saying, that we must learn to make room for others who donāt think of an event in the same way as us, or hold certain ārites of passageā in the same esteemā¦.. and at the same time, to learn how to treat others in a dignified, respectful way, even when their ways of thinking and doing are not the same as ours, regardless of which side youāre onā¦.
Two pollible scenarios. (1) Luann puts out the word that Berneice and Delta are going to the Prom together ā suddenly several guys are trying to ask Berneice or Delta to the Prom. (2) Rosa is going to Peru and Gunther made up his mind not to. They break up. Gunther asks Berneice or Delta to the Prom.
The āneedy familyā could very well be just thatāa family. I keep feeling that the best way to āfeedā them would be to take them grocery shopping so they can pick out their own foodāstock up the refrigerator with items they like and know how to cook.
Looks like this could end up with Bernice coming back from the prom pregnant. Another thought ā do schools let kids go solo to proms? When I was in school, you could not go alone, probably to discourage fighting due to jealousy when girls/guys think they can dance with anyone if they didnāt come with a date.
