Transcript:
Brad: "You saved us! How'd you open the door?" Shannon: "With Toni's credit card! Dad taught me how!" Toni: "I can only wonder why" Brad: "Ok! Shannon enjoys "Sleeping Beauty," I wanna enjoy my beauty" Firefighter: "BRAD?" Firefighter: "Hey, Brad! We're here! You said you need help?" Brad: "NO! NO HELP!" Shannon: "What's going on?!"
ORMouseworks almost 11 years ago
Hey, Levi!!! You were right!!! ;)
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
So, Shannon did indeed âMacGyverâ them out of the closet⊠â And it looks like the firefighters came just in timeâŠ. â Sounds like the answer to a riddle⊠Whatâs neither green, nor gold, but red all over?⊠Lots of possible answers⊠The credit card.. The look on everybodyâs faces, thereâŠ. â And it would seem that Aunt Toni will have to try to explain how âYou take the good, you take the bad.. You take âem both, and there you haveâŠ.â
ORMouseworks almost 11 years ago
And now Brad will be the laughing-stock of the stationâŠjust as some predicted. I thought Brad and Toni would get out of the closet with just a firefighter âfriendâ like Brad said, but this is far funnier! ;)

mroneofthefellows almost 11 years ago
Looks like the guys at the fire station will be having themselves a good laugh tomorrow. It will take a while for these two to live it down among their fellow firefighters.
luann1212 almost 11 years ago
Okay so I was wrong about Shannon, and I am happy to be wrong. She gets in the way, but she is a real, good child, who clearly loves Bwad and her aunt, Toni, and has some terrific instincts and smarts. Great., lets see what else happens. BTW I hope they get married this year sometime.
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
Oh Gawd! Another variation on the theme of âcoitus interruptus!â
ORMouseworks almost 11 years ago
Oh, I just realizedâŠHow did the firefighters get In the house?! ;)
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr almost 11 years ago
Well, I called it.Whereâs my âdoorâ prize?
Templo S.U.D. almost 11 years ago
Oh, poor Brad and Toni. Canât get a single millisecond alone with one another without interruptions nor unmentioned, prescheduled plans.
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr almost 11 years ago
Next comes the pizza delivery he forgot aboutâŠ
Namrepus almost 11 years ago
Once Upon a DreamâŠer, nightmare.
Angelalex242 almost 11 years ago
Anyways, I think this strip proves they are sexually activeâŠwhenever Greg isnât doing the diabolous ex machina type stuff. Clearly they wouldâve done it had firefighters not intervened.
AndâŠToni, honestly, looks as frustrated as he does, really.

What these two need is to Get Married already! I hope Greg wonât drag this around; once people decide to get married, why wait (the party not withstanding) ?!!) I was engaged the middle of August and married at the end of November. If they could get their act together, it would be a done deal⊠;)

Well, my Irish girl wants to go to bedâŠnot a bad idea! âNite all⊠;)

For a long time it was her ONLY message.Boring stuff.
jemgirl81 almost 11 years ago
Her dadâs good for something I see. LOL
EricPost almost 11 years ago
Wow opening a door with a credit card⊠Where do they live 1950?
TORAD_07 almost 11 years ago
Thank Goodness!
I knew Shannon wasnât gonna steal from Toni. But, like Toni, I wonder why her dad taught her that?
Anyway, allâs well that ends well, if maybe just a little embarrassing for Brad/Toni. Plan better guys! Plan better!
blunebottle almost 11 years ago
Love the look on Toniâs face!âŠ..oh, and ORMouseworks (Oh, I just realizedâŠHow did the firefighters get In the house?!)âŠ.who says Brad locks his front door?
ildat hofler almost 11 years ago
Donât start up again, puh-leeeeze! It was such a rekuef NOT to see your egotistical, annoyingnon-comment comment, you have no idea!
milania almost 11 years ago
And in full fire gear for a locked door? that brat is more trouble than sheâs worth.
imbaldeagle almost 11 years ago
Dad teaches Shannon SO much useful knowledge. Wait, I donât remember Shannon ever mentioning anything else he taught her. Hmmm, âI can only wonder WHYâ â indeed!

Just a Dad Burned Minute!
Brad! Toni!
YOU Two Were âMaking OUTâ in FRONT of The KID?!!?
LP2004 almost 11 years ago
I have reluctantly come around to the generally accepted view that Toniâs brother is an unfit parent. Not, however, because he leaves his daughter with others while he seeks employment opportunities â thatâs what single parents do, all the time â but rather because time and again he endangers his daughterâs life by leaving her in the âcareâ of these two blithering idiots.
Sisyphos almost 11 years ago
Well, at least Shannon did good rather than the bad I (and others) had feared yesterday.Panel 2:â15 minutes laterâ? That, plus a few minutes for the rescue, means a response time of nearly 20 minutes for the PFDânothing of which to be proud. But perfect comic timing.
Tandembuzz almost 11 years ago
@Wesley and ReallyBad:
I thought of that back when Brad first broke the lock knob off.
Maybe Toniâs card was one of those credit cards with a metal-saw edge. If it took 15 minutes, maybe Shannon actually sawed through the deadbolt. (Of course, they couldâve had her do it with Toniâs Swiss Army knifeâŠthose often have a metal saw/file among their folding tricks.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen almost 11 years ago
âNo, I can handle this by myself. But thanks for coming by.â
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen almost 11 years ago
Congratulations. We are all proud of you, jealous too.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Clearly two different groups. Clearly a bunch of assumptions⊠â And no joy, yetâŠ..
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr almost 11 years ago
Why do some people continue to insist the lock was a deadbolt? It was obviously a dinky, cheap, interior door latch meant for a bedroom and easily shimmed, not a security deadbolt which would have had a keyed obverse. And who puts a shaet lock on a (hall?) closet? If youâre keeping valuables and weapons in there you use the previously described security lock, with a solid core door, and reinforced door frame, with no exterior pins._________Now comes the question; why has Shannon been taught to access locked bedrooms?
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Oh, if only you knewâŠ..
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr almost 11 years ago
1) NOT a deadbolt.2) Brad is laying NEXT to Toni.3 (and most importantly) Luann-verse.No real-world consequences apply unless itâs part of a plot device, gag, or âmoralâ message.
maverick1usa almost 11 years ago
It was nice not seeing your claim!
GoUSA2014 almost 11 years ago
How cool is that? Shannon now moves up a link in LuannVilleâs food chain, possibly even tying Luann in the respect department!
locake almost 11 years ago
Why would B and T get laughed at by the other firefighters? They were smart enough to get out of the closet, they donât need to tell anyone how they did it. They are engaged in amorous activities which is normal for an young adult couple. I donât see anything to laugh about.
I am concerned that it took the FD over 15 minutes to get there. Good thing there wasnât a real emergency.
locake almost 11 years ago
B and T know the fire department is coming, they called them. They canât have both forgotten about the call.
rojroj almost 11 years ago
15 minute response time? Expect the customary call for an investigation from some politico.
Reddyan almost 11 years ago
I think Shannon got the credit card AND took Toniâs money. Her dad probably told her to do that and she wouldnât question him. Brad and Toni will be much better examples for her later on.
Trails4GMZ almost 11 years ago
WHY DID IT TAKE 15MINUSTES FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO ARRIVE?
Angelalex242 almost 11 years ago
Ya knowâŠ
Maybe it took so long for the fire department to arrive because they were actually putting out a fire at the time they got the call, and they just dropped by when they were done. After all, Bradâs idiocy takes a decided 2nd string to their real job.
ACTIVIST1234 almost 11 years ago
⊠said,
Brad did say he was calling a âfriendâ. Thatâs not 9-1-1. A 9-1-1 call should have been responded to much sooner! But calling a friend to say he (Brad) needed help with a problem would not result in a rush.*Unless, of course, the âfriendâ also has the hots for Ms. Daytona!*Looks to me the âfriendâ brought the whole crew in order to embarrass Brad or impress Shannon. (I doubt the latter.)
flowergirl19 almost 11 years ago
âItâd be nice if Evans would have shown how she unlocked the door, because the credit card trick doesnât work with deadbolts. "
What makes you think itâs a deadbolt? Most closets donât come with a lock, much less a deadbolt. The only doors with deadbolts are usually the ones that lead to the outside. Inside doors usually have those dinky easily pickable locks.
flowergirl19 almost 11 years ago
âYou canât do that with a deadbolt lock, which is what this was drawn as.â
Would you please point out the part where itâs shown to be a deadbolt? I seem to have missed it.
flowergirl19 almost 11 years ago
âIt been a weeks since I read the comments all by people with IQ lest than 70â
â
From the looks of your almost unintelligible comment, I imagine you are one of those people you mentioned?
Elmer Gantry Fudd almost 11 years ago
Yes, Toni, imply that Shannonâs father is a criminal, in front of her. Kids love that.
flowergirl19 almost 11 years ago
Are you this repugnant in real life too, or just anonymously online?
flowergirl19 almost 11 years ago
It does seem to be so in panel 2. However, the next day shows Brad just snapping off the doorknob. So go figure, Evans just messed this one up.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
I know youâve seen the show. Same difference, except that he does it for two different âlawâ organizationsâŠ..

I hope we can depend on Dad to teach Shannon to change a tire or pop a clutch to start the car.
Mary McNeil Premium Member almost 11 years ago
He could probably teach her to hotwire a car to start it. But Shannon sure came to the rescue here!
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr almost 11 years ago
I know itâs not for the type of lock Evans âdrewâ, but the application is the same:http://homepage.ntlworld.com/moonshadow/New_Folder/door_shims.htm/
StoicLion1973 almost 11 years ago
Brad was c-blocked by a little girl, bad workmanship and his own co-workers. He canât catch a break.

1. lest = less
2. with AN IQâŠ
3. Did you start with yourself? ;)

Gâday, Mates⊠;)
karrenchri almost 11 years ago
Sure are a lot of embasels on this site. Oh IALMAO TODAY.
TORAD_07 almost 11 years ago
I also wonder, especially since her dad taught her an impossible skill. But that would require Brad and Toni caring about this kid. Instead of any follow-up question, they throw her in front of a TV so they can get back to each other.
I think that was more a setup in re: forgetting that he had called his FD buddies, and facilitating the embarrassment of their barging in on Brad & Toni. :-) :-)
Radical-Knight almost 11 years ago
Face it, Brad⊠Youâre confined to a celibate life!
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
Letâs assume that if it was a deadbolt, the credit card trick would not have worked. The way the strip is drawn is just not an example of accurate technical illustration. As I want to see it, the door was fitted with some cheap doorknob mechanism.
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
There has been no suggestion whatsoever in this strip that Dirk and Toni meet for sex. There was the scene in the supermarket where Toni saw Dirk and his woman, which would refute the above.
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
Yes, Bradâs situation would have been considered a low-priority call by the fire brigade.
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
I think they are trying with great effort to be sexually active, only to be frustrated by circumstances.
Asharah almost 11 years ago
My coworker once locked her baby in the car. An 8 year old promptly opened the door with a coathanger. Her husband didnât know what was scarier, a baby locked in the car, or a little kid that can break into a car in under 30 seconds.
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
Possibly, Jonah might want to let Brad & Toni take care of Shannon, without legally adopting herâ the best of both worlds.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
While many parents try to slip some Mozart into their kidsâ ears, to seem âcoolâ, or âwith itâ or âintellectually superiorâ as parents, this kidâs parents felt he should learn something that other kids could relate to. Especially with all the money to be made sabotaging, then fixing lockers later onâŠ..
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
Wow! This lock issue demonstrates that Evans is a cartoonist of a newspaper comic, rather than a technical illustrator of a Science & Mechanics type of magazineâŠ
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
Let us now project out thoughts into the near future, when Brad & Toni are married. The question arises as to what will happen to TJâs role in the stripâ specifically, will he be written out? It is a fact in the âreal worldâ that guys who are good friends usually drift apart when they get involved with women.
Doctor11 almost 11 years ago
Awkward!
Comicman424 almost 11 years ago
DId Toni glance at the readers in the last panel? Rare fourth wall moment in this strip!
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
No, but there is something wrong if one does it while listening to TchakovsyâŠ.. Thatâs like serving white wine with something thatâs supposed to be fancy thatâŠuhâŠ. isnât âsupposedâ to go with white wineâŠ
