We all knew she was a genius, just not at what

Quill appreciates and loves Luann as a rounded person; it is natural for him to be happy for her. Now, can she remember to be happy for him and be less jealous of him also loving his work once she learns what he is feeling?

Who designed that wholly inadequate set. anyway? Must have been a graduate of the Moony Uni Drama Department. That school is all hacks.

Luann, You go Girl! This could be a test to see if Luann really is there as Quills assistant.JayBlu: I don’t think Quill is that shallow.

OK – Plot problem solved – for now. Luann & Quill can stay in the same picture. Time for a new arc …

Tiffaany’s Dad should save his money and send Tiff to a school with a real drama department that teaches you how to design sets properly. Like the University of Melbourne, Australia. Oh wait, students in Australia all have to come to Moony Uni to study drama, because there are no good schools in Oz. Never mind.

Good for you, Luann! You have clear and concise ideas, and you’re not grandstanding, but helping to solve very real problems (as related to the Drama Camp)… ;)

Yeah, hasn’t drama camp just started, or maybe it hasn’t even started yet? How do they know how tall the actor playing the mayor will be? And how about moving the spotlight, instead of the tree? That will give Lorraine a chance to be a genius about the lighting and electrical, as well as the set design!

As this “Set Plan C”, that means the set has not yet been constructed. And as Luann ‘s total time at Moony U. has been spent playing around in the prop room, how could she know the podium is too tall for an actor she’s not yet seen?

Last year they did a dorky play about George Washington and this year they’re doing a full-blown musical? Where did they get the money? From Tiffany’s dad?

A possible explanation could be that they had the portfolio pics and profiles there as part of their meeting (which would normally be handy for the tech producer, set designer, director and the other creative staff in making sure things are detailed out) and the set planning was just one thing on their agenda…..

And unless it’s Knute, I’d say that it’d probably be pretty obvious if the door’s tiny, as a Tuba has a large bell, compared to other instruments. Only a harp or a double bass would seem to be larger than a Tuba….– That’s the whole point of production meetings, etc. to get these things squared away. = Also, having some experience in HS production, Luann is probably aware of where spotlights, etc. would go…. and the fact that Luann probably has a “fresh pair of eyes” to see what they didn’t see. Being so long in the “business”, they may have just overlooked it, and being a “walk-in”, she could have brought “new life” to the whole thing….

Had gotten it. Response: LOL! I “tripped” over that one, too, like you did… but also being a fellow appreciator of parody and W.A.Y., I was able to deduce the true meaning… Now, if only I could find my other keys….

I’m thinking that between yesterday’s strip and today’s strip. That Ms Manezon asked Luann to look at the set designs and give her opinions and recommendations.

I’m concerned that Lorraine knows more about Stagecraft 101 than Miss Manismyneckillingme. I suspect she was one of the actors in the old SCTV skit picturing the Ricardo Montalban School of Fine Acting

Ms. M has finally lowered her nose. Maybe she is likable after all.~So Luann has talent. It is nice to see her using it to her advantage. Imagine being able to plan the perfect set up for the stage by simply looking at a picture from a, um, coloring book???

Luann’s spatial sense really is amazing. It looks as though her hidden talent has suddenly, and auspiciously, come to the fore in the case of Set Plan C! She may have more of a theatrical career than Quill….

It’s always great when theater people get together. I had no idea Luann had such deep theater experience. I thought all her free time was spent in her room with Bernice.

Luann has never shown any talent for anything whatsoever, but suddenly she’s a Yale Drama School graduate in set design? Yeah, sure.

Do I see a possible future career as a set designer?

Greg doesn’t come here because we WILL call him on lapses in logic that he and his supplicants just slough over.-———————————————————Such as; why are freshmen apparently in charge of this college theater production?

Isn’t Mrs. Maneson’s drama camp supposed to be a highly competitive and prestigious camp that students all over the world try to get into, and it has a long waiting list because it can’t accept everybody who wants to attend? That was last year’s premise. This year, the premise seems to be that the camp is a completely incompetent operation that can’t even stage a production of “The Music Man” (a feat that is accomplished on an almost daily basis somewhere in the world, by high schools and amateur groups). So, a recent high school graduate with no knowledge of set design and no apparent skill for, or interest in, interior decor must be called upon to re-do everything about the sets in order to rectify the camp’s abject failures?

As I said 2 days ago, Lorrain, uh, Luann is awesome!

I’m just saying that it’s a pretty funny irony… not sayin’ it’s remarkable, or incredible, or “wonderous”, or even “mysterious”. Not even wondering about it. It’s just a funny thing about “idosyncracies” and ironies, some of those things in life that could “tickle your funny bone”… that’s all I was sayin’…… I’m just sayin’….

It’s one thing to say that she’s “hungry” for passion and feels compelled to romanticize what “the ideal relationship/ experience” should be (which is what is), but it’s quite another to call her a “sloth”. That is not true. And is a bit harsh. She just hadn’t found her niche in some areas, and when she does , she really shines…..

“I think GoComics should pressure Greg Evans …” ^Maybe they can remake the series “In Search Of”….. and Nimoy can “find himself”!

I see some patterns being “recycled” here… and it seems similar in tone to some others. It really is…

Luann’s making impressing impressions!

Luann has constantly had goals. Some she tried for, some she has been discouraged from even beginning. The purpose of her character was stated by her creator, himself, to be representative of the “everyday average ‘middle of the road’ girl” and represents people trying to find their way. Her creator has also stated that she is not exceptionally good at some things, but not all that bad ,either. – Being a sloth is not doing anything at all. You yourself have been witness to her working in an afterschool care program, a library program, and has applied to drama camp, and has starred in productions, participated in school activities (a fashion show, a school project to assist the elderly), she has also babysat, she has shown interest in people (see Mrs. Horner), has assisted her friends, and quite a few other things. – So I submit that all of this evidence negates the word “sloth” from this. Unmotivated (at times)? Yes, you can put that in the bank!!!! A sloth? No….

I thought Manzone has been doing this for a long time. Certainly she would already know everything Luann just said.

Set desing is a viable career! And if she’s that good at it, maybe a scholarship to Mooney Uni…

Sometimes, people can be be experts in their field and _still_miss some things, or not have a “fresh, new perspective” on a situation. Even on seemingly little things . – Not only that, but a director who has staff delegates a lot of work between different “departments” from “technical production” to “set design” to "scoring’ to writing, and especially if there’s a new person joining the production company, some aspects have to be “gelled together”, which is why creative talents for TV shows, Movies, Theatre Production Companies and even Network Sports Broadcast Programs have these kinds of meetings. Every week. every broadcast/performance. The creative business is not a “set it and forget it” sort of thing…. so that means that Manezon could just be getting what her other teams submitted, and she’s going over them with Quill! and Luann. It could also mean that Quill!s position is a bit prominent…..

Notice it says “reluctance to work or make an effort”. Given her history and activities, it cannot be said that she is a sloth (by the definition that you are quoting). The fact that she has participated in activities ( regardless of the motivation) means that she isn’t slothful, but just that some things motivate her, some don’t (like all of us in one respect or another). She wouldn’t even have a boyfriend (let alone bother to go on dates with him, if she was a sloth. A person like Quill! (as shown in the way he’s depicted) would not even bother to show any interest in her, as his personality and interests would seem to conflict with being with someone who was that way.

Yes, she does get motivated to beat Tiffany as well, so that’s two things. ^There were more than just two things.

Another one was part of the contest Greg had for readers to submit fashion styles, and she and other cast members modeled the winning designs, and participated in the announcing of the contest, along with presenting it….

Luann’s new assignment — set design. She’s finally found her niche.

This would be disappointing though. Luann has no idea what she wants to do with her life, and she would figure it out while saving money at a community college.

Believe it or not, I actually agree it would be disappointing, though not for the same reasons. I want Lu to go to Pitts CC for two reasons:

1) To have her forge new relationships with new people and not have the old crew to rely on (read: “crutch”)… she will have some work to do…

2) To see if Greg/Karen will take on the concept of Lu still living at home and being subject to “house rules” but yet reaching the “age of majority” and wanting to pursue boys, etc….

If Luann’s such a genius, how is it she doesn’t know the difference between a “podium” and a “lectern”? A podium is the platform used to raise the lectern (and the person speaking) off the floor. A/V rental companies have to clarify this with clients before an event, otherwise the result can be…

That tree is poorly placed. It should go to the left so as not to block the bridge but not take away from the action on the stage.

I was shocked when I visited my ex-husband’s classroom, that was neat and organized. He was the kind of guy who would drop everything on the floor and not wash his sheets for a year. And my messiest kid has turned out to be a scientist, which requires strict laboratory controls. People are different away from home.

Admittedly Luann stayed in high school for decades but many take the paths which open before them through life. The mere fact that she notices a path and steps in says much..We are surrounded by opportunities we neither notice or want.

-Would be great if ‘Spock’ (Leonard Nimoy) were out there, living long and prospering. Unfortunately, in February of this year, he revealed that he suffers from Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease, even though he gave up smoking 30 years earlier. That disease affected both our step Dad (who stopped smoking after WW II) and his cousin (who never smoked), and leaves you with a lack of oxygen and energy at best. Also a greatly increased vulnerability to pneumonia.

I like it.

I like to think that I speak for most of us. We’re impressed too.

And the reason it is called “gerrymander” is that the strung-out election district joined up to resemble a sort of lizard-like shape, or perhaps a salamander.

LOL! Jerry wouldn’t like it.. gives new meaning to the term: “Hello…. Newman …” – Although around these parts, some people might say it’s a guy who forgot to take his supplements (Geritol,+ Man)….

There are tons of people who were both producers/directors and performers. Some at the same time, like Alan Parsons. He assisted in or headed up the production of the Beatles, Pink Floyd and a few others, yet also made records. So did Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes. – Woody Allen also comes to mind in movies… – In fact, take a gander at these names or even these ….

I know we’re all supposed to poo-poo this, but the fact is, this can be a real problem. Disconcerting enough if your assistant threatens your position, worse if she’s your girlfriend as well.

I hate to say it, but this is not the Luann Quill signed up for. Realistically, there’s going to have to be significant readjustment.

Luann’s expression is a bit…panicked. I don’t think she had any idea she could do this. Very likely the ideas are still coming, faster than she can get them out.

Or Gerrymandering could also be an “obscure reference” to a commercial where Sammy Davis was the pitchman: “♫”…The Gerryman can……♫””

Definitely “The Music Man” with that set design. :)

When it breaks down, you can tell the tow truck company, “It is EXTREMELY! green, green with an explination point, and when you see it, you will know what I’m talking about.” That was my 1971 Ford Ranch Wagon. It was so much easier to find than a silver Corolla.
