Also, have a good book about who takes care of caregivers who take care of elderly persons who suffer from dementia. It is based on what was said during a year by the caregivers in a local caregiver support group which mets in a hospital somewhere on the east coast… Sort of like Studs Terkel’s (and others) books. And it reminds me too of the “yard sale rule” we have here….except for the casual yard sales, anyone else who sells “regularly/frequently” are supposed to do it. And in some cases (including out of state purchases) they expect the consumer to do it (through the “use tax”, but for us, it’s really the sales tax with another name). – There’s a few year round flea markets I enjoy, and I wonder if there are some there who probably… “don’t know”…. that they are supposed to collect it…

It’s about time to write TJ out of the strip. His departure could be explained as a desire to start a new life in a different town. When he leaves, it will be convenient for Toni to move in, whether before or after marriage.

I don’t think he’s at all tired of the cooking part. – He has stated as much before, when he hired ‘Quill!’ …it’s the “pushing paper” that he’s really tired of….

I read this comics page occasionally, and one of the things I’ve noticed are the level and intensity of the comments. You folks know this is a comic strip, right? I mean these characters are not real. They live only in the mind of the strip creator. You understand that, right? Commenting (as one of the “PRO” members does,to the tune of 15,579 comments over a 16 month period, which roughly equates to 31 comments a day) on the make believe lives of these characters begs the question: Do you have a real life of your own? Does your daily life consist of sitting at a keyboard and offering opinions on who every character is and what they may or may not be doing/feeling/meaning?And if it does, how very sad. Do something productive. Volunteer at a food bank or a hospital or a school.Campaign against domestic violence or child abuse or work for MADD. Coach a little league team. Hell, be a greeter at Wal-Mart for that matter. If you wake in the morning and the best part of your day is commenting on what Luann and her cast of imaginary characters are doing/wearing/thinking, what an exciting life you must lead.

Sales taxes are regressive. They hit the poor the most.Place a tax on wealth. Tax million dollar incomes at 90%.-Recently I read in the LA Times that when the top tax rate is higher there are more jobs, prosperity, etc. Now I assumed that was when profits were reshuffled back into the business (read: the economy). These days, it sounds like the stockholders are siphoning off a bigger share of the profits than before,, so I wonder if that is still true._Also, even if the top rate is higher, that’s not the amount one pays on ALL their earnings. One chunk is taxed at 20%, the next at 22%, and so forth. All the way to the top rate .

@howtheduck-For some reason, half the time when I try to use the ‘reply’ function, I get a non-functional box that doesn’t allow any typing.-Jon Favreau wrote, co-produced, directed and acted as ‘Chef’ in the movie. He started out in indies, and then did some big films, but decided to go back to his origins for this. He’s been quoted as saying he was trying to get a chef character like this into other movies and finally decided to do it this way.-Favreau is much more sophisticated about the internet than the character he played, but he wanted, so he says, to show how a person could get out of touch with parts of his life and his original passions (cooking and his family), and get jolted back into finding his heart again. -So he had Chef basically ‘act out’ against a critic who wasn’t really telling him anything that he didn’t already know, that he’d ‘lost his mojo’ in favor of staying safe in a job micromanaged by someone who was more interested in sameness than in progress.-The fun that the Chef had on the truck was about getting back to being a Dad as well as a Chef, and in the end, he ended up ‘redeemed’. The food truck was like a life raft, in a way. -Could that ever happen for TJ? Probably not…
