Luis: "Bad fuel pump relay. I'll call Lima for a new one. Might get here by tonight"
Gunther: "Night?! I'll mish my fly!"

Luis’ engine sounds just like a Pirate …. “RRRRRR”!….. – Wow! Replace “flat tire” with “engine trouble”, and my story from yesterday was almost, sorta, kinda “spot on”!… If you squint kinda hard, and lean your head to the side, and stand in the light a little bit….

@ “Miracleshappen”: Loved your rendition of “Brother Louie”, by the Stories, transformed into “(♫)…Lu-is, Lu-is, Lu-is…” – @ JPW: Loved your “Tabasco Road!!!”
You’re not flying anywhere for a while, Gunther. You had to give your last Nuevo Sol_ to the cafe owner to pay for the damage you caused in the five minutes of floundering about and spewing in your drunken craze.
just think, in a few more years, there may be a 3D printer in every village capable of printing out a new part, better than the original in a matter of minutes.may even be able to print out entire gas turbine engines to replace the old 6 cylinder. (or 4 or 8 or 3).Life is good and getting better.
So, while Luis is waiting for the fuel pump relay, something happens that results in Gunther’s transformation. (He obviously didn’t ruin his shirt by losing his lunch on it).-Any guesses? Maybe Luis finds that he can’t get the needed part, and the two of them set off to walk to Lima?
LOL, and a bit of “pyrotechnics” from that spicy consumption Gunther partook of, to accompany the “carbon emissions” (and as a bonus, then that engine will have a lot of “pepper” to it…)
Well, I think I’ll go back to napping! Poor Katie, she wants to go outside and do her thing, but it is raining pouring, that is! She thinks, no she knows that she is going to melt if she sticks her nose out the door for a nanosecond! ;)
LOL, Good call!!! (X^D) – And I was thinking about MacGruber the other day (his Pepsi SB commercial is on one of my “homemade” VHS compilations from a few years back, plus some Will Forte/MacG skits)…
Looks like wl and Lauren M have Greg on their payroll. Or so they think, seeing how they appear to be thinking that they can determine what’s in the comic.
How is Gunther clean shaven and in his clean plaid shirt here, but when he gets home he is so rough looking? I am interested in how long this trek home took.
Amazing that Gunny can think straight, even if he can’t yet express himself clearly. His “ailment” is mostly physical, for whatever solace that may be. He will miss his flight. What happens between now and the next available flight will have to explain his Peru sweatshirt and scruffy beardlet….
I feel sorry for Luis. Now he has to babysit Gunther overnight and he still needs to explain to Rosa’s uncle that Rosa has decided to become a menial laborer for the mountain dwellers.
From the ‘askmen’ website:-Alcohol acts like a sedative on the central nervous system. The part of the brain most affected is responsible for behavior and emotion. The sense of judgment is weakened and speaking your mind seems okay.
I’m kind of enjoying the role of Luis as a father-figure to Gunther, who obviously has been overmothered. Luis is opening up for Gunther, perhaps for the first time, the opportunity and “permission” to see himself as competent and independent. And yes, the beard will have taken a while to grow, so this story line hasn’t played out yet!
I like how Greg drew what I interpret to be wry, mildly bemused concern on Luis’ face in the last panel. I think Greg is doing an excellent job in writing and drawing this particular story arc. It really seems that Luis is taking on a bit of a paternal role for Gunther…. which is nice since he has not really had that before.
“I like a lot of it, but not Gunther! He needs to be replaced! He should have stayed in Peru!”-Don’t you get it wi? He IS being replaced, by an all new Gunther. We are watching the transformation. I find it fascinating.
BS – I just read your last comment from yesterday. Had you already seen today’s strip, or did those space aliens upload an ESP file into your brain?*PS, I think I deserve a clap for my pun, "captivating space alien abduction story.
haha – I was thinking the same. If he had the tools and ability to diagnose this esoteric a problem then he would have the knowledge to bypass the relay.
I’m quite sure Luis is Rosa’s uncle’s confidant and not just any employee… the uncle would have heard about or anticipated Rosa’s plans, and he wouldn’t have entrusted his niece to just any old employee. And I think Luis is doing a great job! He questioned whether tagging along with Rosa was what Gunther wanted. I’m not sure whether Luis is engineering this latest “blip” or just not stopping it, but… Gunther is finally getting his own adventure, something to look back on that doesn’t involve the woman that just dumped him with zero regrets.
I wonder why he didn’t stay. At the main clinic in Lima, he at least had a job as IT tech and was surrounded by nice people and probably more than a few cute nurses and even doctors… Nooo he had to return to the states where there are no jobs, the economy is a wreck and he has to deal with his mom and her problems…
Or replace it with a relay from a non-essential part of the car… say, wipers, heater, or other accessory. Many times the manufactures use the same relay for other uses… worth a try.
Remember how lively Gunther was at the party? Dancing away with Bern? He obviously hadn’t just gotten off a sleepless night flight nor had he spent three days in the airport.*This story has got to go on for the coming week!
Can we PLEASE get out of Peru??? Just, I know the whole thing will end with Gunther being all improved by the experience in a way that’s totally unearned and unbelievable. The Evanses should start learning what high school grads actually DO and write about that!
Ha Ha we’re in it for the ride. Gunther still looks boyish and clean shaven. My initial thought was that they might have to camp out a bit or that Gunther would lose his luggage and have to get a sweatshirt to stay warm..who knows,… having to rough it a bit could do it.
Poor Gunther, so disappointed, so messed up, all because of an idealistic girl. What he really needs is a wild party where he can have a big make out session with Tiffany, whose not at all idealistic. Let them just work up a good sweat and forget their troubles for one evening. (make sure that Ox isn’t there, or he’ll be very hurt seeing his secret love with another guy)
“Translated: I can’t take it anymore!!!!!!!.Suicide is a horrible way to go. Don’t do it, there’s so much left to enjoy in life. It’s not worth it. We need you here. It’ll be OK.”
Great response! I was just going to say “callate” to wl.
“Now Luis missed Gunther’s flight because he doesn’t take proper care of his van to keep it in good, running shape.”,Because, nothing ever breaks if properly cared for?.“overall, Luis gets a failing grade as a father figure.”.Because passing fathers never run into any sort of uncontrolable problem?.Yeah, right.(chuckling at obvious silliness, after a long day)
“Rosa made no effort to convince Gunther to stay, and was smiling/waving as he left. She did not shed a single tear”..
“I know you’re miserable here, Gunther but all that matters to me is my own happines, not yours, so I’m begging you to forsake everything else for me.”*.versus.“You know I care for you Gunther, and you are miserable here. I care too much to try to make you stay while I learn what I came to learn. If the Lord wills, we will be together again some day. Vaya con dios.”(maintains brave smile until he is out of sight and tears flow. She has learned another thing today, putting the good of the one you love ahead of your own is a basic sign of real love, something some never learn.)
“…like a kif throwing a tantrum in a store isle.” ^LOL, So THAT’S what happened growing up. I was doing it all wrong!!!! I shoulda been a “kif”… And no wonder my “nanny’s” name was “Billie”!!!
“My pun yesterday was a takeoff on “Tobacco Road,” by The Nashville Teens.” ^Thanks!!! Was trying to remember the name of originals (off hand, that is)….. Now that you helped me “go jogging”, I remember that I have them on a bunch of compilation albums, along with the one from Lou Rawls’ "Soulin’ " album, and the one from Eric Burdon/War…..
@Caldonia“Can we PLEASE get out of Peru???”.No, the van’s broke down. Aren’t you paying attention?(Just joking, I know you mean you want to see someone else.)
Yeah, I know, I wasn’t serious with that… really was just kidding around!!! (8^D) – As many typos as we all have (being human), I tend to go with “I knew what you meant”, at least in thought, as I read through…. should have added that part too, I guess… – And guess I could have also put “(X^D)” in….
“Gunther didn’t cry, and he’s the one that made all the leaps in their relationship. If he didn’t cry, what makes you think she did?”.Gunther is a man, of sorts.Rosa is a woman, of sorts. Those here who think men and women react exactly the same in every instance, raise your hand. I count one. Anyone else? I didn’t think so..Further, this gets us back to the same old idea that we see everything which happens to everybody in the Luann universe.I won’t call that idiotic but only because I’m so polite..Consider Dirk. We see him at one point, a single thug. Next time we see him he is a married parent. Obviously we didn’t seem him become worthy of marriage, get married, do what is required to father children, et cetera. This simple example shows we don’t see everything which goes on.If we don’t see Rosa break into tears, does that prove she did or didn’t?
