Tough for Gunther to face…. – You know, a lot of people found it difficult to adjust, when Copernicus gave them the bad news that the universe didn’t revolve around them , either…. – Good thing there was no “social media”, then. He would have been unfriended and “unfollowed” soooo quickly…

I find it hard to believe any person can think that their parents are never supposed to change. Everyone changes. Experience changes you. Age changes you. No one is absolutely the same throughout their life.-What Gunther is saying, really, is that he wants his mother to sit quietly in the background of his life, ready to cook food or do what he wants her to do WHEN he wants it (apparently, not when his friend can see her doing it), but otherwise, she’s to have no life of her own.-If he isn’t going back to Peru, he needs to move out and live in a dorm. The only way he’ll be happy with his mother is to spend less time with her. And they only way she’ll get to have a personal life, and not have her kid diss her every day, is if she spends less time with him.

Moms aren’t supposed to change? Gunther, before you came along, your mom had a life. She had dreams and plans—and an identity other than Mom. It’s time for her to get her own time—and life—back, and it’s time for you to grow up and move on. You want to become independent? Then step back and let your mom have her own life while you cultivate your own.

This reminds me of something from my own life in the mid- seventies. After Mom’s death i was caring for the home and Dad while trying to teach him how to care for himself. When he tried to balk i would just not do certain chores. One day he griped about his bed not having been changed, so i suggested he practice and do it himself. He gruffly replied that he did not know where the sheets were kept, so i told him. He got such a vulnerable and startled look on his face then and blurted out, “I didn’t want to know!” Hearing himself say that was a revelation for him.Perhaps Gunther has just had his own revelation.

He’s angry that she’s mature with Mr. Gray, but not him? What kind of maturity is he referring to? That’s not a great piece of dialogue! Besides, he doesn’t know how his mom acts with Mr. Gray when she’s alone with the guy. She might be extremely immature when she’s with him—-whatever that means.

one of these days she won’t be there to cook for him and try to baby him and he will regret all these mean disrespectful things he is saying. My mom treated my brother like that and boy does he miss her since the rest of us didn’t jump in and take mom’s place after she passed. I told him he is a big boy, 60, and old enough to deal with it and do for himself.

When we were kids, we’d say “‘such and such….(fill in the blank, such as ’not it!’) to infinity!” But… on special occaisions we’d say such, and add a “+1!”. To wit, this is what I am doing, now… –

So, Optimus Primus, to infinity, +1!

….and a Full House, Aces over Royals…and DJs over Joeys….

-condescension-Funny, I never thought of someone who was overly attentive and paid too much attention to someone else as ‘condescending’.-Maybe too much present, maybe too involved in details that the other person should be taking care of, like making meals and so on. But not condescending towards them…

I think most of us care about the comic strip, and that is what we follow. .The rest of us can best just ignore them. Not hard to do.
