Quill: "You were kinda hard on your mom, Gunth" Gunther: "It just irks me that she's mature with Mr. Gray and so motherly with me!" Quill: "Well, which do you want her to be; an independent adult or a doting mom?" Gunther: "I don't know! She's just so different since I came home!" Quill: "She is?" Gunther: "Moms aren't supposed to change"

Tough for Gunther to faceâŠ. â You know, a lot of people found it difficult to adjust, when Copernicus gave them the bad news that the universe didnât revolve around them , eitherâŠ. â Good thing there was no âsocial mediaâ, then. He would have been unfriended and âunfollowedâ soooo quicklyâŠ

Gunthie, boy â apart from death and taxes, change is the only other certainty in life!

Right. Because she canât be a complex person, who has different relationships with different people. Sheesh, GuntherâŠget over Rosa, and get a grip.

I find it hard to believe any person can think that their parents are never supposed to change. Everyone changes. Experience changes you. Age changes you. No one is absolutely the same throughout their life.-What Gunther is saying, really, is that he wants his mother to sit quietly in the background of his life, ready to cook food or do what he wants her to do WHEN he wants it (apparently, not when his friend can see her doing it), but otherwise, sheâs to have no life of her own.-If he isnât going back to Peru, he needs to move out and live in a dorm. The only way heâll be happy with his mother is to spend less time with her. And they only way sheâll get to have a personal life, and not have her kid diss her every day, is if she spends less time with him.

Moms arenât supposed to change? Gunther, before you came along, your mom had a life. She had dreams and plansâand an identity other than Mom. Itâs time for her to get her own timeâand lifeâback, and itâs time for you to grow up and move on. You want to become independent? Then step back and let your mom have her own life while you cultivate your own.

This reminds me of something from my own life in the mid- seventies. After Momâs death i was caring for the home and Dad while trying to teach him how to care for himself. When he tried to balk i would just not do certain chores. One day he griped about his bed not having been changed, so i suggested he practice and do it himself. He gruffly replied that he did not know where the sheets were kept, so i told him. He got such a vulnerable and startled look on his face then and blurted out, âI didnât want to know!â Hearing himself say that was a revelation for him.Perhaps Gunther has just had his own revelation.

Well, Gunther? Which will it be?
Caldonia about 10 years ago
Heâs angry that sheâs mature with Mr. Gray, but not him? What kind of maturity is he referring to? Thatâs not a great piece of dialogue! Besides, he doesnât know how his mom acts with Mr. Gray when sheâs alone with the guy. She might be extremely immature when sheâs with himâ-whatever that means.

Quill would make a great psychologist. (Or at least a sub for Dear Abby).

Mrs. Berger needs to summon up her courage and do whatâs best for Gunny: kick him out of her house, forthwith.

Gunther desperately needs to join the military!!
TechTalkGuy about 10 years ago
Gunther now wears normal clothes, doesnât shave his face, drinks black cofee (which was never explained in his story) and has managed a mean attitude!
Yup, heâs ready for the military!!

Thanks for giving him the talk, Quill.Once he talks through his feelings, he can quit acting like a jerk.(Although, it IS true that mothers arenât supposed to change.)

Gunther is really cranky since he stopped getting any Rosa. He needs to get back down south or find some new action.

Iâm sorry but him comparing his relationship with his mother to her relation with Mr Gray is sick.

Aw, Cheer Up Gunth. Your Mom Sacrificed MUCH, as a Single Parent, Raising YOU and Supporting the Family by Her Lonesome, so She Is Entitled to a âlittleâ mothering from time to time. Just Grin and Bear it for Now.

one of these days she wonât be there to cook for him and try to baby him and he will regret all these mean disrespectful things he is saying. My mom treated my brother like that and boy does he miss her since the rest of us didnât jump in and take momâs place after she passed. I told him he is a big boy, 60, and old enough to deal with it and do for himself.

Ok, Quill offer to share a dorm room with Gunth. G-man hesitates because his mom would be lonesome. Mom smiles, and guess who walks in with his suitcase.
Tim Pickard Premium Member about 10 years ago
Poor kid, he just never thought of how much his mom gave up to raise him. His mom is finally is able to spread her wings again and fly and mr. Grey is going along for the ride.

â, why is Dave.53 allowed to insult me on a daily basis with zero repercussions? Is that not against the TOS? ".Truth is not an insult.Itâs just sometimes unpleasant to face.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen about 10 years ago
âIâm going to get a hold of a moderator eventually, and Iâve got a good case of you insulting me just as much as Dave.53.-As funny as you think it is, itâs against the TOS and it needs to stop. ".Threats are against the TOS, arenât they?Near-daily threats SHOULD be multiple infractions..It is reasonable to assume the complaints have been investigated and rejected and that the moderators got several good laughs at the incessant complaints about the comments and the comics and the concepts contained..Thanks, youâre really good for what you do.We need more like you.Gunther isnât enough.

The way Gunther is behaving makes me think that both Luann and Rosa dodged a bullet.

What will Gunther do when Mommy doesnât come home tonight from her date with Mr. Gray? I can hardly wait to see the G-Manâs expression when he finds the note âIâve left your breakfast next to the casserole in the fridge. See you tomorrow evening! Love, Momâ

First and third panels he has the backpack hanging on one strap (which it turns out is givng kids back problems young) but in the middle he has it on both.

-condescension-Funny, I never thought of someone who was overly attentive and paid too much attention to someone else as âcondescendingâ.-Maybe too much present, maybe too involved in details that the other person should be taking care of, like making meals and so on. But not condescending towards themâŠ

There seem to be two or three people arguing about something here. (Maybe more.) I have no idea what it is all about, or why they care..I donât much follow diatribes. I think most of us care about the comic strip, and that is what we follow. .The rest of us can best just ignore them. Not hard to do.
