About Punjab, from the “Little Orphan Annie” wikipedia page …
“In 1935 Punjab, a gigantic, sword-wielding, beturbaned Indian, was introduced to the strip and became one of its iconic characters. Whereas Annie’s adventures up to the point of Punjab’s appearance were realistic and believable, her adventures following his introduction touched upon the supernatural, the cosmic, and the fantastic.”
Several have asked: Was Punjab referred to as a “wizard” in the original strips. Not to my knowledge, no. He referred to himself as having “some poor powers of magic” and similar phrases, but he did not have a title. In addition to the Big Little Book mentioned above, I think the IDW reprint collection titled one of their series “Punjab the Wizard”, but that was an editing decision; it did not come from the original text or dialog.
This is just another proof that guns are not all-powerful. He’s going to deal with them with his bare hands, but I’m not sure if he’s going to make them disappear. He may just disable them and turn them over to Tracy.
Excellent poem, Av. BTW, why can’t you rub some of that talent off on your buddy, SDM? I’d bet GoComics would like him back with manners! Look how they civilized moi (and to an extent, Gweedo).
Seems that ‘Blanket Time’ has come around . . .For those that entered Annie’s hallowed ground . . . The Munro brothers stepping strong and blunt . . .Smiled at a silly Turban wearing ‘Push Over’, just in front . . .
They’d been heading up, now a sudden sensation of moving downWith sword away, as over their heads a ‘gripping’ Blankets thrown . . . They soon felt it, seemingly a growing heat, at the bottom of their feetIf they survived . . . They’d always remember that magic ‘incantation’, holding words without interpretationYet below, they could see the result, long lines, “high stepping” human herds . . .A people damned, reduced to nerds, that could only wish - for wings to fly above, as birds . . .
A place of ongoing jam session, pain progression, without secession. for earlier earthbound transgression
I strongly feel that science fiction even of a whimsical kind may have a place in DT strip, wizardry and magic definitely do not! But one must accept the trend of the times, Isuppose. Next we will have dragons, magic rings and a genius in a lamp?
I will give it my best personal shot, Gweedo. Someone needs to take Avenger09 out of the limelight. He’s getting too much attention and StillDaMan is the one to do it. And, pretty soon you will not have to visit the loo to read SDM’s poetry! Wahoo!
Yes, Punjab’s eyes in the shadow of his turban—magic afoot, and ill will to the brothers Munro.
Hate to nitpick, but shouldn’t the “5” on the Blackheart poster behind the Munro brothers be upside down, like a playing card? Even the little black heart under the 5 is upside down, too?
Gweedo asked,You mean Rikki couldn’t come up with a #10 or 11 ?-————————————————————————-.I’m close to 81 years of age, Gweedo! Rikki says that #9 is my maximum. For a virile young man such as yourself, “Love Potion #2.25” should be adequate!
Geedo hinted,I’m all juiced, Bill ! The potion needs to be applied to the lady so that I’ll have a fighting luvin’ chance.-——————————————————————.You need a few lessons in lovin’, Gweedo. You’re supposed to share the “Love Potion”. The two (or ever how many) of youse will be giddy with romantic overtures!.In your case, I recommend two girls and one Gweedo!
Tracy was stunned, he couldn’t believe his eyesThe numbers in the books took him completely by surpriseI’ve appeared more this week than the entire month beforeWhen will it happen again he definity couldn’t be sure8 out of 12 is great, it produced such a massive smirkHe hadn’t hard so much fun since he took the Pig on Wheels to workOf course the flip to it all, is as good as his record might beThe strip the bears his fine name has a 6 for 6 champ named Punjab Singh.’
