Well, today surely no-one can object to ‘Happy Solstice’ today (though maybe if you’re in a US timezone rather than GMT it was technically late on the 21st rather than early today?
And for sure it would have been what these neolithic characters would have been celebrating!
As an atheist, I’m just as happy with ‘Happy Christmas’ as any Christian I know is happy with ‘Happy Easter’!
Whether you are an adherent to the belief or not, anyone with the joy in their heart to wish you a merry Christmas should be welcomed with a likewise response in the very least. May the blessings of the Yuletide be upon you all.
I wish folks would just reply, “thank you..and the same to you and your family”. After all, you are just being wished a nice day, no matter how it is phrased.
Side note: egg nog is really tasty warmed up. It gives it a different flavor that’s really good. I almost never drink it cold any more. Oh, and I don’t add alcohol.
B.C. is becoming almost exclusively contemporary, and less and less about people in the stone age. The original setting became a constraint early on, apparently; and it’s now mostly an inconvenience for s strip that wants to be about current events.
Speaking of Christmas, years ago my wife got me a copy of Johnny Hart’s “I Did It HIS Way”. So if you long for the old BC, get a copy. By the way, Merry Christmas everyone!
I think it’s constructive (and probably more accurate) to think of the “Happy Holidays” expression as one of inclusion. When I say it, I am including all the winter holidays; the ones I’m aware of and those I’m not. Not excluding anything. And I prefer to think of it as: Happy Holidaze ;)
I have been bothered by choice of holiday greetings exactly once in my life (and even then I said nothing). It was in my church’s foyer immediately after Sunday service, and the (interim) pastor loudly greeted a visiting friend with “Happy Holidays”.
In my hometown, in the 1940’s, the Jewish folk filled in at businesses during Christian holidays and same for the Christians at the Jewish owned stores. Small town, everybody were friendly. PC has ruined our social discourse! .
With his luck, it’s the non-alcoholic eggnog. And Ismail Nuri, it wasn’t so long ago I heard those things happening in cities as large as Baltimore. I agree with your assessment of the damage wrought by PC.
Merry CHRISTMAS (I’ve never been politically correct) -and pass the BEER -make mine a Stout. Can’t stand eggnog. (grin). But pour yourself one of whatever you enjoy and just ENJOY IT!

I always counted it a blessing when the Jewish guy down the block would say “Chag Sameach.”

So much for a classic strip. Far too modern and political now. :\Time to leave B.C. in the past.

Oh, I think you need something a little stronger than egg nog, Hon. Like maybe some Jack. I’ll just have some of my chocolate cherry Bailey’s.

If people get angry because you wished them something nice, maybe THEY need the eggnog.

Why treat someone as being nice when you can treat them as being inferior.
