Both of them making a classic youngster blunder… being more concerned with the kind of life they think they want, rather than who they want to spend it with. Jobs come and go… you may even decide someday to take up a completely different profession. But the one constant through it all, and even into retirment, should be that one person.

Funny how Gunther’s napkin disappeared in the second panel, but was back in the third. The guy playing Gunther must be so embarrassed!

Hey Three Steps – there is another possibility other than your either/or – which is that you hit on a poll that resonated with the readers. I’m curious how you counted mine – which included both the Mafia and Witness Protection.

Why can’t Quill see that HE’S the one mostly at fault here? Luann has been supportive and mostly very patient, while he waltzes off the New York, having the time of his life, doing what he wants, then brings home a girl who “everyone loves”, and ignores Luann in favor of time with Pru? She’s been very accomodating, a door mat in fact. Quill needs to either bring her some Roses and start spending more time with her, or let her go. He’s being grossly unfair to her.

To all the nay-sayer readers who seem to be gleefully cheering “Break up with the little twit”:

First, Luanne showed a talent for theater in high school. Which is what attracted Quill to her in the first place. Also, she has a gift for stage spatial displacement. Which Quill thought was great for his theatre group. But Luanne’s real passion seems to be teaching children. Which Quill thinks is well… nice.

Second, LuAnne was the one who first recognized there was a problem between them. And she has been trying to find a way to talk to him about it. But Quill ignored it, because his head was filled with theatre (and Pru).

Quill is making no attempt to connect with Luann. He could make time to see her if he really wanted to.

I think show business is a particular strain on relationships. First, though, both Q and L are far too young to be deciding on a life relationship. They both understand that sex is not for them at this point, so they are sort of keeping their distance moreso than if they were ‘closer’. If L wants to keep Q, she will have to submerge herself into his show business aspirations and drop her own.Probably best if L realizes her future isn’t one where she chases a husband dreaming of being a big star all around the world. She’s been filled out by the boss as a great teacher of kids. She’d probably want some of her own, and what kind of life is that for kids? Time for them to realize that lust is available almost everywhere. True love, they don’t have a clue what it is yet.

-It’s odd that all of the other characters are acting like mature young adults except for Luann who still behaves like a young teenager

I hope you have no ‘young teenagers’ in your household, as you seem to be very rigid in your assessment of behavior. It would be interesting to find out what would demonstrate acceptable evidence of ‘maturation’ to one such as you.

Would maturation be demonstrated by deciding not to run off to New York for a trip with a boyfriend, and instead stay and work at a job?

Would maturation be demonstrated by setting aside concerns about one’s boyfriend spending a great deal of alone time with a female, when said female is of great assistance to one’s parents?

Would maturation be demonstrated by stepping up to help a future sister-in-law with care of her niece on very short term notice?

Would maturation be demonstrated by enrolling in a less-costly community college to find out what future career might be logical, instead of enrolling in a much more expensive 4-year college where one’s friends are?

Quill and Luann need to part ways.

The way Evans drags things out this prediction may take a year of so to play out, but here goes. Luann and Quill will split … and the true couple of Luann and Gunther will come to being.

by second panel, he thinks that if Lu decides to go full steam as a teacher(or as a sculpture artist) and put on background the theater aspects, there is nothing they can talk about(just because she puts priority on teaching, does not mean she suddenly loses knowledge or interest in theater) or that if she becomes a teacher than he has to be involved in that…… in other words, is not as bad as the Gunther/Rosa situation by a LONNNNNGGG shot

and in the core of personalities, he and Lu ARE NOT opposites

So Luann and Brad will both be single within the next few months. Luann is coming sooner. Brad and Toni will split over wedding arrangements.

Just how my own imagination works (of course): i imagine L&Q trying a Valentine’s Day date, both simultaneously realizing they need to split and voicing that at the same time in the first panel. Second panel would have them each saying, again at the same time, that the other is not listening. Final panel would have startled faces and "Ohhhhh"s.If others’ brains have worked that way i will be tickled pink. Hey, rose quartz IS a Pantone color this year. If they did not then I will not be blue, but serene (more Pantone theme) and will enjoy the ride.This is not something to drag on very long, i think, but i want it to be amicable because the Quill personality adds something to the strip so i want him to reappear in different functions. He can be a good friend.As to Brad and Toni, i think they are mature enough to find solutions when they disagree.

Rosa is still out there everyone! I really would be surprised if she does not somehow come back. Just to complicate things. Besides everyone should eventually be at the wedding, so we have a whole year to wonder. All these arcs will reach another stage, watch!

Quill will come to realize he is interested in Pru beyond as colleague with shared passions and will thank Luann’s jealousy for gearing its ugly head and bringing that to his attention that his relationship with Luann has died. Time to move in different direction. Will he return to his native Australia once he realized he came to America to be with Luann but it’s no more. Stay for Pru? (I cringe when I see Pru – she is annoying and abrasive).

It looks like Quill has already written her off…

Now — get Pru out of Luanne’s home!

Gunny doesn’t offer much, but at least he gets Quill to think about his relationship with Luann, before it’s too late to do anything about it.And it’s nice to see Rosa mentioned again!

in the New Year card strip that showed key characters, Quill was there but more to the background and Pru was in between Luann and Quill, with Pru engaged in some contentious interaction w/ Nancy and Frank. A lot has been invested in Quill’s character and there was a lot of lead-up to Pru’s introduction. So I don’t think either of them will be sent off anytime soon. PS. Gunther is assuming his dorky self……… can’t eat w/o spilling food all over himself?

Was today’s strip Greg’s way of telling the Gunther / Rosa ‘shippers just to forget it, because it ain’t gonna happen? I surely hope it doesn’t happen, because that “romance” was always a truly ridiculous plot contrivance that was too unbelievable even to laugh at. However, I fear Greg may be using this pronouncement to clear the way for the Luann / Gunther pairing that seems to have been his ambition all along, even if most readers think it’s a lousy idea.

BTW, for those interested in the tally in the U.S. Media: except for some local stations, ESPN and CNN stood alone among larger media for reporting the success of the four woman team which successfully rowed across the Pacific to benefit a cancer charity and a veterans’ charity. More stations, internet news services, and newspapers here in the States reported on them when they left than when they succeeded, though that was also not high. Granted, that my sampling was done on free time so more likely to have errors, but it appears that many more stations reported on the male adventurer sadly not succeeding in crossing Antartica than reported on the successful women adventures at any point in their quest.

Put a fork in the relationship me thinks Quill is done here.

Anyway, to seismic who thinks Gunther and Luann will end up together, the strip I was referring to is the Dec 25 ‘Peace to all’ card, and it shows Gunther and Tiffany sitting close, Luann front and center (not w/ anyone0 and, Quill way in the back. I’d like to interpret it to mean that Luann will shine in other ways besides just having a boyfriend.

Rosa’s job in this strip is done. She (and the Peru debacle/adventure) helped Gunter shed the uber nerd and doormat image and emerge as a somewhat more mature nerd who will stand up for himself. Sometimes people do just move out of our lives, and even though I like Rosa, I’m hoping that she has moved on with her own life and out of the strip.

Can you imagine what would happen if Ann Eiffel were to return to Pitt because her Dad, Mr. Gray, has hired her to manage The Fuse?

I think Quill does have feelings for Luann (and she for him) but neither seem able to communicate this in words or on any level except occasional make out. It would be nice if Luann would pick one of her multiple talents and start exploiting it (on her own) and go without a boyfriend for a while.
