pru: ...please welcome out next act, juggling jerry!
brad: what'll we do if jonah doesn't show?
toni: get shannon ready for the disappointment, i guess
tiffany: ta-da!
shannon: i'm ready!!!
Here is a link to some interesting background on how Luann came to be, and the background to her current development, and the process for the other characters, and âhow the gears turnâ for Mr. Evansâ imaginationâŠ.-And here is anotger link to nit only more depth into Luannâs creation (and Gregâs inception for the character of Fogarty, who was the âstarâ of his comic, previous to âLuannââŠ.along with how Luann finally started her college years and the answer to the âinfamous Aaron Hill questionâ (can be found by skipping ahead to minute 20)âŠ.-( Or go to: https://youtu.be/NahN-zQ8N-8 and https://youtu.be/37NOiZopJ0U )

This limited special exhibition features cartoons highlighting Luannâs struggles and successes with school, from her early junior high days at age 13 to her current college age of 18. Now on display in the Kellogg Library through August 17, 2016, free and open to the public during all library hours.âhttps://biblio.csusm.edu/content/summer-exhibitionTo help understand Luanniverse time compare 3D dates over the last almost 2 years w the less than one year passage of time that happened in Luannâs world since she has been 18 since Sept of 2014. I suspect we will see her turn 19 this coming Sept.
In other California news: Greg Evans got an honorary doctorate this year:http://escondidograpevine.com/2016/05/23/luann-in-house-for-csusm-commencement/
We all know that Tiff is my favorite, but Iâm starting to like Pru, too. Now, if Greg would update her hair, add eyebrows, and define the eyes a little better, sheâd look pretty good.
Youâre right about Shannon, letting her work out her feelings, not poisoning her in regard to her outlook on her Dad (a situation running similar to custody battles between parents)âŠ.-And also, unfortunately, itâs one more time that Toni is left to âclean up any messesâ, and to bear the brunt of care and responsibility, and also one more tick mark on her list of times that Jonah has let his sister down, as well (which she sadly has gotten used to)âŠ.

Absolutely â big Kudos to Tiffany for taking Shannonâs mind off of her fatherâs failure to show up (in time, anywayâŠ). And though that makeup might look a little much to us, the bright lights always wash it out a bit for the audience.
(OK, so maybe there was just a touch of tongue-in-cheek hyperbole in my prior comment. But it does look to be drawn like a very large audience and venue.)
Sweet. Tiffany is just a big olâ softie for little Shannon! And I bet her act will be a big hit, without any sour thoughts of despicable dad JonahâŠ.
Dog, Gromit, and anyone else who doubted the timing. Though I am still insufficiently rested, i think that THIS should suffice:For those who question the timing, remember the strip where Luann turns 18 on Sept 21st of 2014 close to the same time she begins college on Sept 3rd of 2014:http://www.gocomics.com/luann/2014/09/21and http://www.gocomics.com/luann/2014/09/03Other strips referring to Luannâs birthday happen on surrounding weekdays. Now, notice this strip from March of 2016, just about 4 months ago, and notice that Luann is STILL 18 because 12 plus 6 equals 18, and notice that soon after she refers to having finished a year of the classes we know she started at the beginning of college.http://www.gocomics.com/luann/2016/03/06andhttp://www.gocomics.com/luann/2016/06/13So, she is 18 on Sept 2014 AND 18 on March 2016. This is not real world time; it is Luanniverse time. In real time that year while she is 18 is approaching two years for us.This is supported by an off-strip resource, an art show of Luann, organized with the creators which clearly states that in July of 2016 Luann is 18:http://www.csusm.edu/news/articles/LuannsJourney.htmlandhttps://biblio.csusm.edu/content/summer-exhibitionNow that their freshman year is over and Luann has a good chance of turning 19 in two months, will any other single years (for us in the 3D world) take a different amount of time in Luanniverse than in our real world? Who knows? I suspect it will depend in each of those years on how many stories there are to tell in the Luanniverse!
So many things going on right now: Tiff trying her best to help Shannon in a way which worked for her, a chance to know more about Tiffâs background, the hope that people do not react badly and hurt Tiffâs feelings more, Jonah missing in a way which might be more than him again flaking for an audition instead of taking time for family, Les apparently stealing, his uncle trying to help Lesâ single mother and Les by getting Les employment, and perhaps even more. So VERY much going on! Do not even blink!
@DavidHuieGreenâWell since a doctorate isnât an MD you are confused. He may just use a cyclotron instead on youâŠâ.IâM confused?HEâs the one who grabbed the wrong end of the scalpel..Now you tell me he thought it was a cyclotron?
Tiffanyâs character has grown more than most of the characters here; sheâs shown compassion (here and interestingly also with Gunther), an ability to understand people and how the function in the real world (wonât say in depth but at a level), and her intellect is less in question than ever. Makes you wonder if sheâs not the psych major. Iâd trust her more than Bernice.
Shannon was about to fall into a bad place because of her dad and Tiffany stepped in to cheer her up; better than anybody else has done so up to this point. Criticize Tiffany all you want but she is a real life/soulsaver at this point.
They have the same hairstyleâŠ! Well it definitely shows a different side of Tiff and perhaps a reason for why she has this outer âglamâ shellâŠhowever, I donât necessarily think it should be passed on to Shannon. Lame JonahâŠ
Remove the leggings. Add the adjustable âskirtâ and layers of blush. A gift straight from Tiffâs heart.*Just as long as she didnât teach Shannon sultry movesâ they were specifically banned by the authorities.
âGet Shannon ready for the disappointmentâ*Câmon, Toniâ use your imagination. A firefighter has to know how to quickly put together a Plan B. *One commenter had the great idea of a sing-along. Or have her dance to her Lu, my darling (Lu is a good singer).
Itâs amazing the the Fuse was able to draw a full house with âactsâ of this quality. On the other hand, Pru told us earlier that the show has 35 performers, so probably everybody in the audience is a close friend or relative of someone whoâs on stage.
If the stripes on Juggling Jerryâs shirt were a different would you also wind of thinking of how Sheldon looked in his doppler effect shirt on Big Bang Theory? The face and build already are somewhat similar,
My wonder is now whether when Toni sees Shannon if she will melt down, and if so what will then happen, or if she will think itâc cute and be thankful Tiffany has helped Shannon be distracted from the possibility her dad will not show up. On the third hand (humans canât do on the other other hand can they lol) Jonah may show up at the last second. OMG, Tiffany will see Jonah, while Jonah will see TIffany, while at the same time being a good dad. Now that is a scenario I did not see coming, Nah!! I donât think Greg would pull that one?
Remember the times earlier this year when people talked about Peanuts smile faces appearing on Luann? Apparently, it has an old but forgotten background. See todayâs Luann Again.http://www.gocomics.com/luann-againn/2016/07/22
Most âsoap operaâ strips involve deaths (usually of incidental characters, but sometimes major ones) from time to time. In Luann, characters simply move to Spain, Hawaii, Peru, (Howard University???) or some other place that is effectively outside the known universe, and they are never seen again. Problem solved, without having to endure the melodrama of âTonight, on a very special episode of LuannâŠâ
Hey, Orville is picking up some tonight. He even ate some kibble and was ravenous for his soup. YAY!I guess to some people we might seem strange because we live small and do not spend money in ways or on things that many other people do, but that means we are able to budget for what matters to us, like being able to jump fast for ferret vet care when needed. In weeks like some recent ones that choice has served us very well. How individual priorities differ is an interesting thing, and thinking about that got me thinking about how often that has come up as a theme in Luann in the last two years:the way that Luannâs parents are revamping their lives, the way that Mr. Grey seems to have decided to give up a career to help family, Guntherâs mom dating again, the different emphases that Luann and Quill grew into,Pru choosing to move to Pitt and try her hand in a place where she can more readily exercise a wide set of skills,Jonah and his choices,Tiffany who places more emphasis on the needs of others now,And the list coukd go on.So much of the last two years has been on people finding their own priorities, and how those priorities differ, sometimes complimenting each other but sometimes clashing.
You do know that we rarely see more than a few minutes in chunks of time per day.Of course. Iâve just decided the timeline discrepancies that manifest long-term just arenât worth discussing and that I can enjoy the strip just fine ignoring same.
