Back on the 9th (2 days ago) I may have been a bit harsh against TJ, but I still don’t like him.

I am actually pleased to see an entire strip where TJ does not flash his grin. I thought that thing was glued to his phiz.

I believe the odor of sewage is likely due to the heavy use of garlic and pesto and such in TJ’s Mediterranean cooking!

Brad, come on brother, do the right thing. You have a career. You soon to be bride has a career. You are about to take on the responsibility of caring for a child during your off duty time. Go ahead and take the next step. Become a full fledged adult and get your own place. Don’t ask TJ to move.

I read in the comments that TJ inherited some money. I wonder how much? I have read the strip for about a year now and never saw when he got the money. I figure that most, if not all, the insurance money was spent paying off his lunch truck and investing in the Fuse.

T.J. clearly doesn’t want Toni moving in because he knows A. She won’t falll for his B.S.. So she’ll probably realize that B. He wants the house to himself

Why is it that many Luann readers do not like TJ? Delta knew why.

So TJ calls is a dump but he lives there.

Four MONTHS for cleanup? How about a long weekend? Somebody’s stallllling!

TJ is semi-okay, a hustler, maybe a con man, certainly a cook, but he did enjoy messing over Ann Eiffel and resisting her romantic advances, so there may be a nicely catered “coming out” party in his future.

OK, so Brad is nose-blind to the odors in his room. Time to step up and do something Brad before Toni catches on. Reminds me of our youngest son, who was not a neat-freak by any means in college. In fact he was pretty much like Brad. However, he married ‘Martha Stewart’ and now is a totally different man, happily married for 20 years with 3 kids. So men can and do change once exposed to the pride of home ownership and family responsibilities. Sometimes.

The funniest part of this comic is how Brad still relates to TJ like a 10 year old. And shovels his food in his mouth like one too.

Brad & TJ will get it cleaned up so nice that Brad will hate living there. Only class for Toni, only gas for Brad.

6One of the more interesting things to me is the discussion yesterday about how much each of the three of them should pay for rent.I tend to feel that with Toni moving in, each should pay 1/3 the share of rent and utilities. To my manner of thinking that seems far more fair than what some folks were suggesting as a 1/2 for TJ and 1/2 for Brad & Toni. That 1/2 – 1/2 arrangement to me, does not seem fair for TJ. Some may argue that because Brad and Toni share a bedroom, that this is why it should be 1/2 – 1/2. But, to me, she is still using her 1/3 share of the rest of the house, so I still believe Toni & Brad should pay 2/3 and TJ should pay 1/3. Perhaps as a compromise, even though I still think this is somewhat unfair, but as a compromise, Brad & Toni could pay 1/2 of the rent, but 2/3 of the utilities (presuming the utilities are add ons).

I thought that they were getting married in September. Didn’t they have that asinine 9/11 wedding date plan? When did it get moved to December?

Interesting (at least to me) other questions from some of the discussion yesterday:A lot of folks were predicting that TJ may end up getting booted out of the house if and “when” Shannon may move in as the “adopted” daughter. However, I am wondering how large this house is? It could be a three bedroom home. If so, then there could be Brad & Toni’s room, TJ’s room, and Shannon’s room. If the house is indeed only a two bedroom, this would complicate matters. But, that said, I could imagine some interesting hijinks ensuing if Greg decides to have them “remodel” the house to create an additional bedroom (perhaps an attic or basement finishing to accommodate another bedroom for someone, depending upon how “nice” the trio envision it turning out). If this route is taken, it could lead to a whole bunch of classic comedy outcomes and could be fun to watch. If they did do a remodel of some sort, adding an extra (permitted) bedroom would likely dramatically increase the value of the home, which could be a) a bonus for the parental DeGroots, and/or b) potentially lead to a decreased rent for the three of them (Brad, Toni, & TJ) if they put in the “sweat equity”.All of the above remodeling benefits….. are of course…. presuming that the dynamic remodeling trio is successful in keeping the house INTACT and not destroying it in the comedic remodel. :)

The only reason I can see for Brad & Toni to keep TJ in the house is to teach on or both of them how to be good cooks. In many Fire Departments, the personel at each station and on each shift take turns cooking. My brother was a Fire Fighter and did his share of cooking at his station(s).

I have not had time to check all comments yet, so apologies if others noticed this:Brad is saying “we” in relation to doing the work of the clean-up, but TJ is noticing that the worst areas are ones used by Brad. It is one way to say, “What do you mean ‘we’?” without bluntly saying it. These two know how to play each other, but each also knows how the other does it. Brad and Toni have not managed relationship shorthand, yet, but Brad and TJ have. If TJ helps Brad clean his own mess he will be sure that Brad knows it is a favor.

I’m finding this whole story arc annoying. I don’t like Brad suddenly depicted as the gross (because my pre-coffee mind can’t think of a better term) bumbling teenager again. I do realize that we don’t mature uniformly – Brad’s at home persona may not yet have caught up to his at work and with Toni persona, for example – but to have him revert to a culinary ignoramus and a Jeremy-scale slob is a bit much. The descriptions of his living conditions could just be guy banter except for the fact that it seems Toni has no clue about its condition, suggesting that she has never seen Brad’s room or bathroom – which in itself seems very hard to believe. I have to keep reminding myself that Brad and Toni are themselves probably still in their early twenties, i.e., still sort or college-age, for the whole moving in with TJ thing to make any sense at all.

I get a kick out of the way TJ and Brad relate. I enjoy how they talk, bicker and rib like brothers or the best friends who have known, accept and forgive each other’s idiosyncrasies over the years.

It’s not the first time a girl has moved into her boyfriend/fiance’s place with another roommate. Wasn’t my style, but it happens all the time, now. It is a big step for them, but not surprising. Why is everyone acting like the world has turned upside down?

TJ has plenty of money he doesn’t need any charity in finding a place to live. He just cares mostly about feeling like part of a family. The Degroots are his family now and Brad is his brother.

Oh, and note that the second strip also provides proof of TJ being at least half-Italian.

Oh, the cottage has at least two covered porches. I am a sucker for porches, porch swings, etc. When i was a kid we children claimed part of a porch that partially wrapped my grandparents’ place as our play porch because the bow window narrowed the walkng area to it enough that we coukd have privacy there in our own little hidden nook.

Interesting history lessons supplied here, going back before I started reading the strip. Did TJ cause that house fire, like his Meals on Wheels? I can see why Greg is trying out new characters, this bunch goes back forever. Strip needed some fresh air and new faces. But, please don’t lose Tiffany. Knute, Crystal, and Rosa were good, too.

LOL! The strangest thing any chandelier has held has been IV bags for a few very sick pets who we set up in the past w special caging on the dining table because there was a chance of recovery that way (at times actualized but just as often they removed the IV).
