And I do so tell both of you. Just remember, hysterics and wild accusations accomplish nothing. Keep it up and you’ll lose the popular vote in 2020 too.

Perhaps not your “select few”, but rather a “silent majority” that wearies of the insipid nonsense posited by you and a “select few” on your end of the issue. Get a life and your own forum if you want to engage in political sniping. Some of us come here for “comic” relief from all of that.

When Baslim spelled out Les’s name, I noticed a little character development there. Split the two syllables of him name. Les • Lie.

I’m surprised that Leslie is trying to approach Pru in such a quaintly polite (if financially dubious) manner. His modus operendi with women in the past was to forcibly corner them in hall ways and not take no for an answer.

A lesbian-sociopath hookup!?!? Where is this going? I sense a lesson in the offing.

Politics can hijack a thread and there are multiple places they can go to ejaculate over politics all the time.

Talk about anticlimactic. Les puts up a piece of mistletoe and stands under it. A male stranger comes by and says, “That mistletoe?” Is the stranger gay? Does he want to kiss Les? Will Les get into an angry confrontation with the stranger relating to sexual orientation, foreshadowing his potential reaction to finding out Pru is gay? Or will the stranger take the story in a completely different direction? (By “a completely different direction,” I mean something like “Excuse me, sir, can you get out from under that mistletoe? The blonde girl who says ‘Oh my gaw!’ a lot is coming this way, and I’m hoping I can use this opportunity to kiss her.”) Well, as it turns out, it’s none of the above. The stranger disappears before saying or doing anything more, Ox takes down the mistletoe, and nobody’s getting kissed.

Curious to see how this arc finishes up and leads to the next one. Or lies all by itself to be returned to later, or not. Meanwhile, HAPPY NEW YEARS!!

I am sure there are some people out there that know the experience of unrequited love – to love someone who doesn’t return the feeling. It is absolute agony. Even though Les is a bum, I can’t help but feel a little sorry for him. I am hoping this experience will turn him into a better man with real feelings, but the majority of your readers don’t think it will. Tis better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all – yeah right – but it still hurts.

And so 2016 in Luann ends not with a bang but with a whimper, exactly like all that so-called “drama” that Nancy was talking about earlier this week, all of which was resolved with no drama at all. On deck for 2017 – lots more of the same!

The drama in Luann is generally interpersonal and psychological, which is what drew me initially. We still don’t know if there is a possibility of redemption for Les. The Evanses are investing considerable effort to making him less one-dimensional – for good or ill. Stay tuned.

Very true, Luanaphile. This is not really a strip for people who do not care for character development and mysteries. For those of us who do it is a great fit.

2017: I predict Donald Trump will be president. Period. So get over it and see what happens. I further predict that Gunther and Tiffany will not have sex. Toni will not get pregnant, but Nancy will. Luann also will not have sex, but Bernice and Pru just might hook up. Due to popular demand, Rosa will return and there will be a love triangle with Gunther, Tiffany, and Rosa. The new, improved Tiffany will actually realize that she is in love with Gunther. Finally, JPuzzleWhiz will continue to nit pick everyone’s comments, but that’s okay because it is kind of fun. Keep us honest, Whiz.

Oxford is much smarter and quicker than he sometimes appears to be (kinda reminds me, after a fashion, of the Dumb Ox of Aquino).

Leslie gets what he merits, namely a view of Pru passing him by….

That was predicted by the fellow who did everything he could to lose but wear a tiara.

I was thinking of how often I hear “almost 3 million.”

It means the same thing as “under 3 million” but sounds more like “three million” and more support — like the kid who says, “I’m nearly 18,” just after the 17th birthday or the vain person who says, “I’m under 30,” the day before that birthday.

I continue to wonder what would happen if all could vote,

“No, I don’t want this one.”

As it stands, the vote might mean,

“I liked them all, but I liked this one just a little bit more,”

or it might mean,

“I don’t like any of them, but this one I don’t dislike quite as much.”

In like manner, the 110,450,842 (+/- 13 ?) people who didn’t vote for anybody at all may have meant by their non-vote,

“I think they’re all so wonderful that I’ll be happy with whoever y’all pick, so I won’t even bother to vote,”

or they could have meant,

“I think they’re all so bad that I won’t support any of them with my vote.”

(This doesn’t take into consideration those who thought, “There’s an election?” or people like my Mennonite or Jehovah’s Witnesses neighbors who don’t believe they should vote in worldly matters — they give tacit acceptance of whoever the voters pick.)

It would be interesting if we gathered that information by including not just election votes but also rejection votes.

I suspect it would improve voter turnout.
