Lighten up, Bernice. Life is too short. I predict she will join the military and someday be the first unmarried (and possibly virgin) chairperson of the joint chiefs of staff, a 4 star rank.

I’m surprised to see that I can still access the old site. Although I’m not sure that the comment will register, here it is: apparently, Bernice hasn’t learned any lessons from her past rigid approach to a by-the-book life. That’s a shame…

Last year the director played a prank on Bernice by making her enforce the ridiculous 10 PM dorm curfew. (No, that’s not canon. That’s my interpretation. Your friends want to come watch the end of the Lakers game on TV with you? Too bad, you’re getting written up!) Now it looks like Bern is getting back at the director by taking the common room inspection way too seriously.

1:17 am in California. Testing, testing at the old site. Can we just continue to use this site and ignore the beta site? Or is this the new site, with exactly the same look and functionality as the old? No, surely not.

I get the distinct impression that the Evanses have no idea what to do with Bernice any more. She and Luann are too close for her to be written out of the script, but she’s by far the most clueless, ignorant and self-absorbed character in the strip.

Tiffany? No, actually. Tiffany does have some self-awareness, and some feelings for Gunther, though neither of them thinks of the other as anything more than a friend. The difference between college Tiffany and high school Tiffany is much greater than the difference between high school Bernice and college Bernice.

Hmm. It is 9:27 EST where I am, which would be 6:27 PST (California). With the traditional site still working for me at the moment, I am suspecting they are going to flip us to the “new and improved” site during California working hours, so probably sometime between 8am and noon their time which will be sometime between 11am and 3pm EST.

    .

    7

    .

It is so funny seeing Bernice…. she is so much “all about the plan” and so less focused on the immersion in the activity. This is a common theme for her and has a definite ring of truth to it…. I know a number of people who are very much like Bernice. I can get that way sometimes, myself, but I have learned to work hard to avoid being “all about the plan” and have tried to become more experiential.

    .

When I re-read the comic, I found it odd that Bernice called that other girl, “Ma’am”. When I first read the comic, it felt like she was another Resident Assistant, perhaps the “head” resident assistant, and therefore another student, perhaps a senior student. I guess Greg means her to be an older individual, a more permanent staff member at Moony.

Even though this new site is not to my liking, I suppose that after a few days, weeks, or months I will grow accustomed to its design. I do have to say though, that there are two things I shall very much miss:

    .

    1) It appears all the old comments on the old site are kaput. If the loss of the prior comments is permanent…. what a tragic loss. It is akin to the loss of history. Even though the comments were in many cases “just” comments…. they can provide valuable information about the society that wrote them and from the context of the history of comics, gocomics, and art, they have value in that regard.

    .

    2. I miss the navigation ease offered by the older site. This is not as easy on the computer. I suspect the mobile will not be better either, especially since it is probably basically this site.

Yes I didn’t like when over 190 thousand of my comments were removed before this. Now it is totally gone. The major draw back of electronic culture. Historians have been worried that much will be lost at power interruptions without solid paper trails.

So, now, 4:40 EST… happily it seems that old comments have been migrated back to this new site. That is a relief. Even today’s earlier comments on the old site have migrated. That is a very nice and good thing…. to lose the comments would have been tragic.

    .

One navigation change that has both good and bad aspects I think is related to REPLIES. Now, it seems as if replies to a specific comment are “linked” directly to that comment and you do not see those replies UNLESS you click on the “3 Replies” (or whatever number it happens to be) link. It is NICE that they are clustered so that you can see the whole thread together. But, it would be nice to have an easier glimpse of who has replied and/or at least a start of the reply so we would have better knowledge of whether we want to take the time to view the replies or not.

Alright! Comments from earlier today have migrated over from the old site!

Now, if we could just have the REFRESH COMMENTS button back so one doesn’t have to refresh the whole page and click the Comments icon again

And way to “up-vote” someone else’s Comment would be nice

And a full bar with a few paper umbrellas would be fun.

“…One thing I really dislike about this new format is that we have to click on the replies below each comment to see how people responded…….”________________________________________________________________________________________________ I agree. It doesn’t promote the kind of free wheeling discussion that we had when all comments, regardless of type, appeared in chronological order. Though it does save space and keep things organized but it also keeps things hidden. But we can still copy and paste what we are commenting on and make it a new message.

Flagging a comment is weird. I picked some poor sap’s comment to test-flag just to see how the functionality worked, intending to immediately un-flag it again. What I got was no visual indication that it had been flagged — or unflagged, when I clicked on it a second time. Honestly, the default red flags on everything make it look to me as if every single post is flagged already. If I hover over it, it says “Flag This Comment.” If I click to flag it, nothing changes. The flag is still the same shade of red, and hovering over it still says “Flag This Comment.” Seems broken — or at least poorly designed as far as visual feedback goes.
