It’s great to see Lu having a good time. It’s been way too long.

… though they seem to be having fun with it.

I miss Quill

Bernice and Luann seem to have become polar opposites about dating, since Lu broke up with Quill.

Bernice only sees dating as “serious”. She can obsess on one guy like Piro, until the deal disappoints her or falls apart. But she doesn’t care a bit about having dates with some available guy just for fun.

On the other hand, Luann, so far, has had no interest in another serious or steady relationship. But she can enjoy hanging out and joking with the ugliest dork in town.

Nil is more of an enigma. He asked for a date with Bernice, but now that they’re together, he’s not managing it well. Weird!

In a real bowling alley, such antics would probably get you a reprimand. If any of those balls fall off Jack’s arms, someone’s foot is going to get broken.

Nil and Bernice are same hair color. It’s interesting that they both think of dating as awkward.

Hypothesis: Nil and Bernice are, unknown to each other, brother and sister. Accidentally separated at birth, perhaps.

Something is afoot. Or a leg.

Just a quick comment before bed. And I dont’ care who is first. I think the point is that Nil and Bernice are kindred spirits who look at the whole usual dating scene as absurd, which makes it hard for them to relate to anyone, but who ironically are attracted to each other (I know I boomed Piro, but this seems to be going another direction, I think) and they seem to be not having fun, but I think in a weird way they are, which is to be snarky about Luann and Jack, who most definitely are having fun and who are totally not serious. Two versions of dating, fun, silly dating, observed by snarky serious dating. Matches made in heaven!!

Luann and Jack seem to be getting along well. They are just having fun as friends because they are both alike in personality and I like it that they are just having fun. Bernice and Nil are pretty awkward but they remind me of myself in a way, overanalyzing and sort of restrictive at first. I think that they would both be good for each other. They are both shy at first, but they can see them both breaking out of their shell, having fun, and being a great couple :)

If Nil thinks dating is so much posing and pretending, why did he want to go out with Bernice? If she thinks it’s awkward and stressful, why did she agree to go? The truth is, no one, man or woman, really needs a mate to be complete. Yet, for some reason, most of us still want one, even in these supposedly “enlightened” times.

i wonder if Nil can clean up to be an interesting guy for Bernice. A diamond in the rough.

Luann and Jack seem to be getting along well. The last thing Luann needs after getting out of a serious relationship is another one, so I like that Luann is just having fun. I feel like this is a sign that Luann is maturing in college. Also, Bernice and Nil kind of remind me of myself in a way. They are both awkward and reserved at first, but I feel like once they get to know each other more, they will be able to have a fun time. I believe that there is more to Nil than there is on the outside, and he’s just a little shy. I want to see more of him. Go Nil!

It is good cartoon storytelling. Has laughs and the depth is way ha ha. Enjoy Greg’s sense of proportion.

Yes, you could cut the insightfulness with a knife!

Knute and Crystal have already filled our “non-couple couple” quota. Seems like old storylines are being recycled in a much less interesting way, and with much less likable characters. I’m wishing we could see less of Bernice for a while if there isn’t going to be a satisfying resolution of the Piro story. There are so many unanswered questions about him that I would love to have answered.

Nil: “So do you want to skip the pretense and just go straight to making out then?”

They’ve found common ground! They both hate humanity.

If you try to look at fun in an objective way, you never figure it out. thus, you have no fun at all. poor Bernice!

I like Nil.

Bernice has about as much insight as a pothole in the road.

Not nearly as many ‘ball’ jokes as I expected…

Least Likely Plot Twist: Bernice winds up dating Jack…

Two personality types are on display, Nil and Bernice are sullen and introspective; Luann and Jack are dynamic and interactive.

This light fun relationship with Jack is the right thing for Luann. Hard to see a long lasting passionate relationship here, which is good. The silliness of Jack brings out her sense of play. Playful folks are more creative.

I’m not sure what it will take to dislodge that stick up Bernice’s behind.

Bernice and NIl can be miserable all they want, but they shouldn’t criticize other people for having fun.

Very nice! I was worried a new arc would start. I am glad we still have more Jack, Nil, Luann and Bernice!

I like how Nil is trying in his sort-of shy manner to get to know Bernice. I like silly-acting Jack and how he is trying to garner a lot of attention from Luann. I like how Bernice fits very much into the same sort of emotional mindset that both she and Nil apparently share. I like how Luann is able to now have FUN with Jack instead of being all about worrying about Tiffany going clubbing with him.

Very, very nice. I do hope that Piro continues as well, however. I really like his character too!

These two boys wouldn’t hang out together in real life. (And they are boys not young men….)Why are all the characters here still being put in situations that are more suitable to high school students and not college students? There is nothing college-like about any of this…. even the dorms are in-loco-parentis which ended in the 1970s … In 2017 Luann would have hooked up with the jock a couple of times just for fun… and Yes I mean real sexual intercourse….. And why haven’t we seen a series of strips where she and Bernice discuss birth control pills, and how common it is to get HPV….

Luann seems to be enjoying herself. Has something happened since when she was trying to avoid dating Jack and now?

I would like to see a twist wherein Bernice and Jack end up in a romantic encounter, much to each other’s surprise and possible chagrin.

While it’s nice so see Luann in the strip named after her, she’s only present as a background comedy relief. when are we going to see a story arc about Luann and her problems growing up.

Whilst the Dead Poets commiserate, Luann is having actual fun with Jack the jock! It may be only a passing fancy, but it will help her growth in the long run….

In each panel, Nil and Bernice are drawn closer to each other.
