Well, some of us were hoping for a little excitement for a change, and Leslie seemed most likely to provide it with Tiff. But no dice, it seems. Tiff’s kind of back to zero, as Gunther’s making no moves for her either.

I wonder if Tiff will continue to go to the Berger’s parties?

Maybe Tiff’s goal all along was to get Gunther jealous.

Great! He gave her good advice, and she took it! He is so good for her, and vice versa.

And thus we see the power of venting

Those two are gonna “hook-up” (In a “G-sorted way” of course!). I will “call it” now! ;)

Okay She threw the Thug’s number away.(for now) But what about the Berger Family Dinner? Tiff Still has an open invite. And She’s Still Lonely.

Tiffany’s I can handle Bad Boy’s is an ILL OMEN. Unless Gunther Visits Tiff on a regular basis during the Summer, a lonely Tiff is going to “Chance It,” with Les….,

Wow! I’m impressed that Tiffany and Gunther had a direct, two-way conversation. And I’m impressed that each trusts the other enough to at least consider changing their actions as a result of what the other person had to say. And I’m hoping that this arc, and the realizations each as a result of this conversation, also results in each taking some steps, however small, to get out of his/her emotional rut.

If this phase of the narrative is suspended here, we’re kept in suspense. Well, by definition, no? But I feel fine with that. Gunther and Tiffany see the good in one another and in this arc each has accepted constructive criticism from the other. Those who have claimed them stupid, have said they are using one another, have (Mother of Mercy!) advocated that Tiffany date Les Knox, have stubbornly pursued any number of other delusional readings of what has been a pretty straightforward story… might consider examining their interpretive tool set. It is plainly evident that the Evanses mean to present these characters sympathetically despite their evident flaws. In other words, as human beings deserving respect. If you failed to grasp at least that, here’s some suggested remedial reading… “The Scarlet Letter” and “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.” [The latter of which would have been better presented with its original French title, “Notre-Dame de Paris.”]

Yay, Tiffany. First step to your transformation! No, the runny mascara and messy hair did not count.

Better throw out the trash tonight Tiff! Or rip that paper into shreds. I’ve thrown things in the trash only to dig them out the next day.

Gee, Tiff – you really put Les in his place. A good flush down the swirly hole would have been more final.

People have often cited oddly coincidental themes occurring simultaneously in different strips. For a weirdly funny example, for a look at the nerdy/hottie conversation from a slightly different angle, see the last four days (6/14 through 6/17) of “9 Chickweed Lane.”

Disappointing…looks like she’ll have her work cut out for her to win Gunther over. He still doesn’t realise he cares about her.

I wound up bugged by the teacher-student relationship where Gunther always tries to take it. I had hoped that Gunther – in Tiffany’s room – could bring himself to fess up that – it’s not really about Les – and that Gunther is lonely too – and it means a lot to him to have Tiffany’s companionship. We have seen where Tiffany wants to give – which helps her self esteem when she has the chance. And Gunther could have asked for a hug instead of just running out the door…

I just hope this isn’t “fade to black,” with a totally new and unrelated arc opening Monday. It wouldn’t bother me if the Evanses pick up the thread of Luann and Jack, or Bernice and Nil, since that is all interwoven here. I’m just not ready to be pitched into the wild blue yonder on Monday with some new story featuring Nancy, Frank and Prudence.

Am I daft, or do I remember correctly that Gunth called Tif “stupid” at one point? What makes him the arbiter of who should be with whom?

Something that can’t be ruled out is that the Evanses haven’t intended this episode as decisive. Instead, they might be planning a tug-of-war between Les as Tiff’s would-be suitor, and Gunther who keeps trying to get her to see the light (as he sees it).

But we’ll just have to tune in next week for a brand-new show, and see what happens.

As she stands there, in panel 3, a question comes to mind-

How long did she stand there… contemplating…before discarding the number? Was it an ‘instant notion’? Or perhaps a bit of ‘moderately cautious deliberation’? Or was it more of a “I’m a big girl! I can take care of myself! But….Gunther was making sense…..” kind of deal?

Les is human, and has shown teeny, tiny glimmers of hope, and clues that could lead to redemption… if ….he chose to actually embark on such a path….but, maybe Tiffany realizes that, while she’s “starving for attention”, she doesn’t need to “pick up every item off of the buffet table”…or even “take a chance on that turkey with the slight turn of color, and hint of foul”….

@ JAY The question is, after what Gunther said, did Tiffany throw away Les’ number for herself or for Gunther ?

Tiff says no to Les and yes to Gunther. Will Les take no for an answer? Will Gunther wake up before it’s too late? Again?

Disappointed that Gunther isn’t growing in this arc. How will he implement the insight Tiffany gave him about his mother and Mr. Gray?

@MORDOCK999 You said you were going to abstain from coffee if Gunther didn’t kiss Tiffany. Tell ya what. I am skipping my coffee this weekend. You can have mine!

Gunther is the most asexual person EVER. Why didn’t he KISS Tiffany? And if he doesn’t feel that way about her, why the hell is he going out with her? Not the way I expected this arc to finish up this week. I used to like Gunther, but not so much these days.

What bothers me here is Gunther’s facial expression in the first panel – shades of the snarly Gunther that drove Tiffany home.

Gunther is really trying to be the boss of Tiffany tonight. First, he brings her to a party but only after instructing her that it is supposed to be a miserable affair so she should be sure not to enjoy herself (especially with Les Knox), then when she comes home really happy (apparently for the first time in a while) he makes her cry by criticizing her appearance and telling her that she’s a phony, and now he tells her who she must not date. Is this because (1) he actually values Tiffany as a friend and wants to make sure that she doesn’t get hurt, or (2) he’s obsessive (a person of rigid habits who values strict order like his graph-paper shirts), and he wants to control how the people around him behave (especially Mom!), or (3) he so much hates Les Knox that he will do anything to make sure that Les is miserable?

Gunther is a total jerk. He walks out on what must be his best friend who is all messy-faced and upset, without even unbuttoning his jacket. He doesn’t deserve any respect from me. But then, most of Greg’s characters are cold and selfish.

Well done, Gunther. Well done, Tiffany. Nice that these two have each other, even if just as friends. Two flawed individual s, to be sure, but each has a knack for making the other feel better about themselves.

You had your chance, Gunthie, but you decided to hurry home to mommie and sew something.

Wow, it looks like Tiffany may becoming a humble woman We’ll have to wait and see.

next week’s arc: Luann gets her cast off !

Danger here. Tiff is left alone and lonely! Lonely people do desperate things. Like accepting attention from thugs rather than be lonely. Gunther, being a pal, should have stayed with until she was in a better place.

Gunther’s exit seems a bit too calculated. Tiffany is still upset (most women would likely tidy up a bit after calming down), but Gunth chooses to walk out with dramatic flourish. Brings into question the selfless friend shtick.

Not even a little hug? I think it would helped Tiffany.

I know this is a family comic, but I sure wish Gunther would have snapped out of his own world and grabbed Tiffany and gave her a passionate kiss and said “Tiffany you won’t be lonely anymore, you have me!”. Man, that would have been good. But it is a family comic.

Chase Gunth down and kiss him until he gasps for air you fool!

Monday Bernice confronts Tiffany about seeing Gunther leave her dorm room with her looking very disheveled and upset. Perhaps even reports the “incident”.

So she’s dealt with bad boys many times. Look where it’s gotten her: alone and lonely. Les isn’t just a “bad boy;” he’s evil.

Looking back to my days at University and now my daughter’s experiences I can certainly imagine how tough it must be for an attractive somewhat anorexic blonde… oh wait that never happened when I was in University nor is it the case now? Haven’t we moved on from the “poor little rich girl syndrome?”

Our Tiffany is growing up! Her encounter with Gunny the Frigid has brought increased self-awareness and a hearty dose of self-esteem. Now, if only she can stay on track!

Sunday: Frank and Nancy Rumba !

Gunther is being a bit of a jerk. He tells Tiffany how to act and how to present herself. meanwhile he has no idea the gift she has given him. Tiffany cares very much about her outward appearance and takes great care to be seen as perfect and well groomed. But for Gunther she was willing to be seen as disheveled and messy. It is obvious that she cares for him, while he seems to see her as a possession.

Gunther, try to unlearn your “angry face”.

Abruptly “needing to go” was not the best thing to do. Tiffany has been abandoned yet again after years of being discarded by both mommie and daddy. Gunther could have at least given her a reassuring hug, letting her know everything was going to be all right. He could have at least told her he’d talk with her tomorrow. What are friends for?

Looking at this comic strip every day makes me SO HAPPY I married one of the “nice guys”—one who is good to me and knows just what to do and just what to say. I am one blessed woman.

Boy, this story sure took a left turn. What a disappointing end.

Oh, well, at least it looks like a new story arc starts on Monday

Busy all day, but i just wanted to say that i greatly enjoyed this week of Luann!

didn’t see this till very late last night.. after 1 AM…. Looking at Tiffany, I was reminded of Bette Davis in the old movie ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane’. I think Gunther got an important message through to her (as she did to him in the car) but he reaches a breaking point (desire to leave in the 1st panel). Tiffany (among other things) has disrupted his sense of order… he’s uncomfortable around weepy make-up smeared women..since going to Moony, his perfect little world has been slowly unraveling .

Somebody really needs to teach Gunth how to read women.

Gunther is gay. If he weren’t he would have made a move on Tiffany by now given all the “alone time” they’ve had studying. Why are Evans and Evans so afraid to acknowledge that young people engage in sex, specifically A LOT OF SEX, more specifically constant, constant sex in their early 20s…..?

Unfortunately this is the END of the LAST ARC with a svelte Tiffany! To my eternal regret.

I’m too lazy and have too little time to read all the comments, but I guess I’m on the minority here. But I’d like them to give a chance to Les. Yes, he’s not nice, but avoiding and ostracizing him won’t do any good and won’t help him to be better. That’ll just make him angrier and more bitter.
