Years ago I remember visiting a six bedroom house in San Francisco – with one bath. And everybody had day gigs. There was a morning shower schedule: Mary 5:30-5:45; Bob 5:45-6:00; Jane 6:00-6:15… Now I’m thinking not everybody got a hot shower. And did they have to wait until they got to work to use the can?

I went on a couple of 3 week Himalayan treks in my younger days. I learned that ice cold showers/baths are invigorating. Also, “going” outside gets to be routine after awhile—no problem.

Looks like the issue is their hot water heater, if the dishwasher sucks out all the hot water for an hour.

So, why didn’t the DeGroots upgrade the hot water heater during the re-build?

And how often is this going to be a problem because the newlyweds are supposed to be on differing schedules, and TJ should be at Kafe Kablooie by now.

Well, It’s only Tuesday, but ALL I’m seeing are More and More Reasons why Old Smiley SHOULD GTHO.

Oh by the way, if You hadn’t already done so, check out the Strips starting on Sept. 3rd 2007, where Smiley Cons His way into being Brad’s Roomate.

Up until that point, Brad was living at the DeGroot Rental just fine, By Himself!

That pretty much deflates the argument that TJ’s is “needed” there to help pay the Rent.

    Especially with Toni on Board…..,

Since their marriage, Brad & Toni, might have bought the house. So now there are mortgage payments, property taxes, municipal fees ie: water & sewage, garbage disposal, etc. and let’s not forget house insurance. Don’t forget that TJ also invested a chunk of money in Kafe Kablooie. (maybe that was done with the proviso that he remain in the house.)

What idiot would run the dishwasher first thing in the morning when you KNOW others need to shower? I would be livid. Brad is much too nice. Actually, he should STOP the dishwasher mid cycle and hope that is enough so the others can take a quick shower.

A dishwasher doesn’t use hot water from the pipes. It heats the water internally. Same thing with a washing machine. Yes I am aware of that older dishwashers from the 1970 used to be connected to the hot-water pipe, but that’s like 40 years ago.

In two different songs, Paul McCartney and TLC both pleaded people to ’not to go chasing waterfalls….but they probably never met Brad, Toni and TJ….these three would probably love a waterfall right now, given their current utility situation…

All they need now, is to wash their car, and they’d ‘hit for the cycle’…..

No, they didn’t worry that having one bathroom would be a problem, because this house has been shown as having two bathrooms. Also, as has been pointed out above, modern dishwashers don’t in fact operate that way. This premise is just much too contrived even to be interesting, much less humorous.

This is a pretty unbelievable situation for any home in suburbia. Only one bathroom? And a water heater so small that running the dishwasher uses its entire capacity? And for a home that just completed a major renovation?

While I can get the humor from yesterday and today, and have generally enjoyed it. I do also hope that this arc is not leading to TJ or Brad & Toni leaving the DeGroot rental home. I like the trio together and think there is still a whole lot of humor to explore in this arrangement. I know I appear to differ significantly from most of the commenters here (most seem to want TJ to exit), but for me, Brad and Toni only in the house would offer IMO fewer potential arcs of humor.

I do hope that this week we may also get (via Jonah) the unexpected arrival of Shannon again. The arcs where she has been featured the last several times have been very, very enjoyable…. and sometimes even thought provoking.

The whole issue is clearly can Toni and Brad live as a married couple with Brad’s BFF, or not. I think, the way Toni is drawn, not, and the BFF will have to go. Will that be a crises? Not really, it happens all the time, and I bet TJ will be very close.

Rule 1 – actions that don’t need a human presence (laundry, dishwasher, crock pot) should be done when the humans are gone to avoid resource conflicts.Rule 2 – Make a schedule (true, firefighters’ shift changes will require multiple versions, but do it anyway).

I can hardly stand the suspense. By tomorrow will Toni be finished brushing her teeth or will she still have to floss? Will Brad find he has no clean shirt and that they can’t wash clothes until the dishwasher finishes? Will Brad catch pneumonia from going shirtless? Could an arc possibly be more boring? Will some kind soul wake me up when it’s over?

    PIPE, SALLYMARGARET:

It is not endocrinology but very cutting edge, almost sci fi, with the photosynthetic oxygen production abilities of one of the non-toxic forms of cyanobacter used to preserve and protect heart tissue after blood flow stopped. Very successful results so far and a person has to wonder if applications might later arise for tissue preservation during and after tourniquet use, too.

Not all cyanobacter (bluegreen “algae”) are safe, of course. Some are highly and rapidly toxic while others appear to set the stage for GI malignancies. Some forms are very safe, but the trick is telling them apart…

Anyway, it seemed like fun for you two.

There’s a possibility that this is at night. Brad and Toni have worked all the shifts, and tjis could be them getting up for the day (/night). Or, their routine could just be to brush and shower at night, and maybe Brad will wash up in the actual shower, in the morn.

    -

Doesn’t solve their space/use situation, I know…but just was addressing the one question of “what time is TJ running the dishwasher?”.

    -

Too, Mr. Evans seemed to foreshadow this, during their first week, after B&Ts wedding, when TJ shiwed them the ‘improvements’ he made.

Hey, a use question. I am thinking about renewing my Pro status. Part of me hates to do it because the site is so verymuch worse since the “improvements” and the price went up as sort of insult after injury. On the other hand, my eyes are miserable and the site was borderline usable for me before i got Pro/Insider so i am concerned that losing it now would make the site unusable for me, and they are offering a 20% purchase discount snd just yesterday i saw something i really want to get for another. Before getting Pro/Insider the ads would cause the site to jump around too much for my eyes to focus accurately. The brain functions, but needing to focus my eyes slows certain functions. There are still ads but fewer and no jumping ones.

Ultimately, it is up to me and what my eyes can cope with, of course, but i would enjoy hearing the vantage points of others.

So are we all done with Gunther and Tiffany? Because this seems like a completely unrelated story arch. It is obvious TJ has worn out his welcome. So this arch is either about Toni and Brad trying to find a kind way of asking him to move out or for them to seek other accommodations for themselves.

@SCHRODINGER’S DOG “Our power company keeps pressuring people to install a controller outside next to the power meter, that allows THEM to decide to limit your power usage by cutting off things like air conditioning”

    .

We already had that here over 25 years ago – SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District), who supplies our electric, had a voluntary program called “Peak Corps” wherein they came out and installed a controller on your air conditioning condensing unit that would allow them to suspend the operation of the condensing unit during peak energy use times. They offered a discount if you participated in the program. Upon examination of their installation, the unit opened the connection between the 24 volt transformer in your inside unit that supplied voltage to the relay/contactor in the unit outside where the compressor was at. A simple hidden defeat circuit I installed with a remote controller allowed me to override their controller to restore air conditioning if I deemed it necessary. The controllers they installed were not sophisticated enough to detect if they were being bypassed, however, if they did contain that type of intelligence in the unit, I could have “fooled” that also.
